Chapter 78 THE SHAMAN IS DEAD!

Chapter 78 THE SHAMAN IS DEAD!
Kallix's eyes darted around the room, his mind racing with a response that would satisfy Lady Eleanor's question. He couldn't reveal the truth – not just now. He knew that a perfect timing will gone in which he wouldn't be able to hide anymore. But it can't be this soon.
He racked his mind, searching for answers.
"My grandmother told me the story," Kallix said finally, trying to sound as innocent and childlike as possible. "She's always sharing stories about our village's history with me. I guess I just remembered this one really well."
Lady Eleanor's gaze lingered on Kallix, her expression thoughtful. She seemed to be weighing the possibility of his explanation, but she didn't press the issue further. She knew that he must have said what he know about the village. But he just remembered it too well, and that was why it sounded unbelievable for a kid like him.
But looking from the side of the linage he bekimgs to, he should be capable just like the way he showed himself now.
Evelyn, on the other hand, looked puzzled. "But Kallix, you're so young," she said. "How did you remember the story so clearly?"
She found it way unbelievable than anyone present in the room. She doesn't know the way of the sgaman, hence it looked weird to her. Most people around his age don't know too many words to say. But in his own case, he could use the words properly.
This isn't the once adorable kid she knows.
Kallix shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "I don't know, I just did. Maybe because it's a really interesting story?"
Damien's eyes narrowed slightly, his expression unreadable. He seemed to be studying Kallix's reaction, searching for a sign. But Kallix maintained his innocent facade, his eyes wide and guileles
The room fell silent for a moment, with everyone lost in their own thoughts. Lady Eleanor broke the silence, her voice firm. "Enough discussion. We need to make a decision about whether to bring Kallix's grandmother into this. We can't afford to waste any more time."
"We need to bring her in," he said. "She's the only one who can help us deal with this ghost beast."
Kallix's eyes remained fixed on Damien as he spoke, searching for any form of objection in his eyes.
Damien's expression remained stoic, but his voice was firm, ignoring Kallix's rant, he insisted. "I still don't think it's a good idea.”
Lady Eleanor's expression turned stern. What is the matter with this warrior? There seemed to be a reason behind his objections to this. One he couldn't say publicly. Thinking deeply, she concluded.
"Kallix, dear, would you mind excusing us for a moment? We need to discuss this further."
Kallix's face contorted in a tantrum. "No! I want to stay! I want to help!" He stomped his foot, his small body shaking with frustration.
Evelyn's voice was gentle but firm. "Kallix, please. We'll call you back in when we're ready. Just go play for now, okay?"
Kallix's face twisted in disappointment, but he knew better than to argue further. He turned and stomped out of the room, slamming the door softly behind him.
Everyone could see his enthusiasm to help.
As soon as Kallix left, Lady Eleanor turned to Damien. "What's going on? Why are you so insistent that we can't bring the shamaness over? We all know that she's the only one to help in times like this. If we don't bring her over the beast might dominate the kingdom."
Eleanor enlightened Damien more on the dangers of being lenient with these beasts.
Damien's expression was somber, his eyes clouding over. He didn't waver, instead, his determination became stronger. "I'm afraid I have some bad news," he said, his voice low and grave.
Evelyn's brow furrowed in concern. "What is it, Damien?" She asked impatiently, he had been putting them in this suspense for quite too long, and it's beginning to become unbearable.
Damien took a deep breath before speaking. "The shamaness... she's passed away. I received the news days ago."
Lady Eleanor's face went pale, her eyes widening in shock. She felt like she'd been punched in the gut, her mind reeling with the implications. No shamaness meant no help for the kingdom, no way to deal with the ghost beast. She thought about all the people who would suffer, all the lives that would be lost. The weight of responsibility crushed her.
Evelyn's reaction was just as intense. She felt a wave of grief wash over her, her eyes welling up with tears. She thought about Kallix, about how he would react to the news. She thought about the village, about the people who had looked up to the shamaness with such reverence. The thought of them losing their beloved shamaness was unbearable.
The thought of losing her people was even more heartbreaking. The kingdom will be dominated by the ghost beast. They will all be tortured for life. They will forever face the wrath of the ghost beast.
The room fell silent, the only sound the heavy breathing of the two women. Damien's expression remained somber. He knew how much the shamaness meant to the kingdom, in this current situation. They've all looked up to her to help in this situation, but unfortunately she's no more. She would probably be busy trying to get pass into the after life.
Lady Eleanor's voice was barely above a whisper. "How did she...?"
Lady Eleanor seemed to be the greatest in shock, when she heard Kallix's story. No amount of words could express the joy she felt in her heart to know that there was her kind. But now…this?
Damien's expression didn't change much. He just tried to look away from the women who were deeply emotional after hearing this. "She was old, and her time had come.”
He already knew that the old woman has lesser time to spend on earth the very day they met. He should be even more devasted because he immensely needed the woman's help. But she passed in without having a proper conversation with him.
Evelyn was shattered, she was tired already. Could she step down now? Was all this happening because of her? Who will help? Several thought occupied her mind. Then looking up, her eyes brightened up. Her eyes which was once welled up with tears lit up. She looked like she had seen the shaman who would help.
Evelyn's eyes locked onto Lady Eleanor's, a determined look burning within them. "Lady Eleanor, you're the only one who can help us now," she said, her voice filled with conviction. "You need to perform the ritual to draw out the ghost beast."
Lady Eleanor's expression faltered immediately and her jaw dropped to the floor her eyes dropping to the flooras well. "I... I don't know if I can," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm not fit for this task. I'm not powerful enough."
Evelyn's gaze never wavered, her determination only growing stronger. "You have to try, Lady Eleanor," she said, her voice urgent. "If you don't, no one else will. The kingdom will soon become nothing but a memory. We need you to save us."
How could she take on the task? She could be selfish and save only her family. How voultshe do this when it could cost her her life and her family?
No!
