Chapter 70 THE NIGHTMARE CAME AGAIN
Chapter 70 THE NIGHTMARE CAME AGAIN
As they rode through the streets, Kallix continued to point out various sights and sounds. Seraphina remained quiet, her expression still unreadable.
The carriage finally stopped in front of a small shop, and Seraphina gestured for Kallix and the caretaker to follow her.
"This is the seamstress's house," she said.
Kallix nodded, his eyes fixed on the house, then he noticed the big shop beside the house. He was mesmerized.
. "I'm excited to get some new clothes," he said, when he was back in the village, he only got clothes once in a year and that was whenever he was doing his birthday.
The caretaker smiled and nodded. "I'm sure you'll look very handsome," she said trying to keep up the eagerness in him.
Seraphina led them into the shop, where the seamstress greeted them warmly. "Welcome, young master," she said. "I'll make sure to fit you with the finest clothes."
Kallix smiled, his eyes shining with excitement. "Thank you," he said.
As the seamstress began to take Kallix's measurements, Seraphina stood back, her expression still unreadable. She watched as Kallix chattered excitedly with the seamstress and the caretaker, her eyes fixed on some distant point.
This boy was suddenly good with elders. Was it because he's lived with an old lady all his life.
After the seamstress took his measurements, she stood up and excused herself. She came back to them with lots of clothes of the same size.
“Thus should fit you very well. Would you try it on?”
Kallix glanced at her caretaker, the caretaker was at a loss for word. The decision was left off to him if he wants to wear it or not. Why was he looking at her.
“Kallix, dear. If you like the designs you can choose it.”
Kallix nodded enthusiastically, “I will then.”
The seamstress beamed with joy. She not only sew clothes for those that come to her to request for one, she also sew in hand for those who would visit and see the designs.
She was pleased when Kallix agreed to try out the design. She might not need to sew him any more clothed if he liked it.
The caretaker took Kallix over to a roomm designated for changing up and checking out the outside they want to buy.
The caretaker held the clothes while Kallix tried it all out. In every of the clothes, he looked like a crown prince, who was friendly but manipulative. If he was a crown prince, it was sure that he would become a cunning King.
The caretaker praised him in every cloth he changed into.
After trying on every piece, they went back to meet the seamstress. The seamstress stood up on seeing them.
“Do you like it?”
“Yes I do,”
“I will send it over to the palace, tomorrow.”
“We will start going now,” the caretaker concluded with a bow.
As they were about to leave the shop, Kallix suddenly halted, his eyes fixed on something in the distance. He slowly turned to the seamstress, his expression thoughtful.
"I don't want these clothes anymore," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "I want a new design."
The caretaker, whose name was Amara, looked stunned. Likewise Seraphina and the seamstress. Even though Seraphina was absent minded all through the time Kallix spent with the caretaker together with the seamstress she knew that the caretaker must have had some pieces already made and that would be why they took a long time to leave.
"Kallix, dear, what's wrong?" Amara asked, trying to hide her confusion. "You looked so handsome in all of those clothes."
She could vividly remember the way he looked when he tried those on. As if he just found out his purpose in life. His voice was exactly the way he sounded when he saw those people performing acrobatic earlier on.
Kallix's eyes seemed to glaze over, as if he was seeing something that no one else could see. Amara exchanged a worried glance with Seraphina, who raised an eyebrow.
"What made you change your mind, Kallix?" Amara asked gently, trying to understand what was going on in his mind. But Kallix still remained silent.
Kallix's gaze focused again on the seamstress, and he smiled apologetically. He didn't want to worry and stress the seamstress, but it seemed like he would have to now. Therefore he apologized for the stress she would have to go through.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I just have a different idea in mind now."
The seamstress nodded reluctantly. "Very well," she said. She was getting paid for it anyway and she liked the boy especially the way he was respectful towards her. "I'll make you a new set of clothes, young man. But it might take a few more days."
Kallix nodded enthusiastically, his eyes shining with excitement. "Thank you," he said. He's fine with anything.
As they left the shop, Amara turned to Kallix. "What happened back there?" she asked, her voice low.
Kallix just smiled and shrugged. "I don't know," he said. "I just knew I didn't want those clothes anymore."
Amara's eyes narrowed slightly, but she said nothing more. Seraphina remained quiet, her expression still unreadable.
As they rode back to the palace, Kallix's enthusiasm returned, and he chattered excitedly about his new clothes.
…………
After Kallix left with Seraphina and the caretaker to get his measurements taken at the seamstress's house, Evelyn settled into her favorite chair in the chamber, a warm smile on her face.
Damien sat across from her, his eyes fixed intently on her as they chatted about various matters relating to the palace and his duties.
As they talked, Evelyn's eyelids began to feel heavy, and she stifled a yawn. "I'm feeling a bit drowsy, Damien," she said, her voice soft and gentle. "I think I'll go lie down for a bit."
She had been trying to fight it, but she couldn't anymore. Instead of fighting it, she was more worried about the nightmare. She was engrossed in her thought wondering if it would come to her even if she was tired and drowsy.
Damien nodded, his expression understanding. "Of course, my lady," he said. "You rest, and I'll keep watch."
Evelyn smiled and stood up, her movements slow and languid. It showed how tired she was, these days she seemed to have developed insomnia or probably a phobia for sleep.
As she made her way to the bed, Damien watched her go, his eyes never leaving her figure. Kallix's words came back to echo in his mind. The heavy makeup, even Ksllix noticed that she was stress.
When she was safely tucked under the covers, he nodded to himself and returned to his post outside the bedroom door.
Evelyn closed her eyes, feeling the softness of the pillows and the comfort of the mattress envelop her.
She hoped that she would have a good sleep, one without the terrible nightmares that had been disturbing her lately. She seemed to be losing control of her mind, lately. She drifted off into sleep, her breathing slow and peaceful.
But her peace was short-lived. Before she could even cross over into the deep sleep she had been craving, she was visited again by terrible dreams.
