King Archer's Folly
The frist person in the Dragon Kingdom to hear that Eidenel had become th Vampire Queen, was Juliet's father.
The wide smile that the man plastered on his face could not be over emphasized at that point because to him, this was the nail on the coffin. There was no coming out of this. King Archer had lost Eidenel completely.
Juliet's father, forgetting about the fact that King Archer might have an issue with him concerning the death of his parents, walked boisterously to the King's study, where he met Bernard on the way.
''I want to see the King.'' Juliet's father spoke with such an audacity, Bernard eyed the man, wondering where he found the guts to be so forward. Had he forgotten that King Archer was closing in on him being responsible for his parent's death?
''What for?'' Disgust could not be hidden in the tone of Bernard's voice as he asked.
Juliet's father looked at Bernard with ridicule in his eyes.
''So much for being the King's hand. I always maintained that friendship should not be a prerequisite for such an appointment.'' Juliet's father started to abuse Bernard just because he heard about Eidenel's new status first, while Bernard was still in the dark.
''I beg your pardon?'' Bernard was upset.
''Please, take me to King Archer, I have something important to tell him. I don't have time for any back and forth with you little boy.'' Juliet's father completely disregarded Bernard at that point.
Bernard was terribly upset, but considering Juliet's father's status in the Dragon Council, he knew that whatever Juliet's father had to say to King Archer might be important.
''If what you have to tell the King is personal and carries no iota of importance to the King or the entire Kingdom as a whole, i'm personally throwing you out.'' Bernard warned Juliet's father with anger evident in his voice.
''So much for being in the dark. You should be ashamed of yourself.'' Juliet's father scoffed back at Bernard and demonstrated for the young man to take him to see the King immediately.
Bernard nodded with sarcasm as he could not wait to hear what Juliet's father had to say. As soon as he recognized that the information or whatever Juliet's father wanted to tell King Archer was not important, Bernard would waste no time in bundling the old man and tossing him out of the King's study.
Soon enough, Bernard ushered Juliet's father in.
King Archer raised his head to see Juliet's father entering his privacy with so much energy, and his countenance dropped at first, but then he remembered that Juliet said her father slumped.
''That's true. I was going to ask you to leave me alone, but I remember Juliet crying over your health. Are you okay now?'' King Archer asked.
Juliet's father almost rolled his eyes to reveal that the drama that Skeen acted days ago was all a lie, but he just played along and dismissed the issue.
''I had a small heart attack. I'm an old man. What do you expect?'' Juliet's father played by the books.
''Anyway, there is a more thrilling story that you should hear. I am rather surprised that your so-called hand has not heard this interesting news yet.'' Juliet's father eyed Bernard for the upteenth time.
''What is it?'' King Archer was impatient.
''The love of your life is now the Vampire Queen.'' Juliet's father could not wait for KIng Archer's reaction.
There was pin drop silence in the King's study after Juliet's father broke the news. Bernard was so shocked and upset at the same time. He had been looking out to throw Juliet's father out, but with this information that Juliet's father just gave them, he was sure that there was no throwing anybody out.
Bernard looked at King Archer, and King Archer also looked at him. Both men were speechless.
''Is this a joke? How can a werewolf become the Vampire Queen?'' King Archer eventually found his voice and dared to ask questions.
Juliet's father laughed.
''My King.'' He bowed with sarcasm.
''You might be young but you certainly were not born yesterday. Are you not aware of how easy it is for vampires to bite anyone and make them vampires as well? The love of your life is now a vampire.'' The amount of excitement that Juliet's father was exhibiting pained King Archer to his bones.
''Why are you so excited about this? You are behaving as if you won a lottery.'' King Archer was spiteful.
''My King. I am not excited because you will surely be in pain following this news. That's not why I am excited. I am excited because I love to be right. I had warned you about following that rogue wolf up the way you were, but you wouldn't listen to me because you thought that I just want you to get married to my daughter, Juliet. I am just basking in my ''i told you so'' moment, and that's all. Deal with the situation however you want to, but I only came to inform you.'' Juliet's father drank in King Archer's mood before he turned around with satisfaction.
''I will take my leave now. I have to attend to the kingdom. King Archer, mind you, I have been the one making sure that the kingdom is not more divided than it is at the moment. You have to address the situation because there is only so much that I can do. As you heard, I had a heart attack and slumped. It is because I am over working myself, but what can I do? I have to make sure to keep the kingdom intact.'' Juliet's father walked out feeling on top of the world.
Finally, after a long time, he had the upper hand over King Archer and he could talk down on the you king.
Juliet's father eyed Bernard one last time, and left the King's study, leaving King Archer and Bernard to their supposed folly.
