Chapter 30 The husband of my future

Chapter 30 The husband of my future

Dahlia.

When Jason disappeared through the door, I plopped a pill into my mouth, swallowed it, and lay back in bed, pretending to be asleep.

If I wasn't wrong, he was about to bring in the driver. He couldn't wait to ruin me, after all.

He thought I was already at my weakest, and to convince him, I had even faked a few moans. Virgin? Yes. But it didn't take schooling to know how to moan, right?

I was a virgin, but not clueless.. From the moment I saw Dalton, it was like something had been born within me. My skin became overly sensitive, the way my body reacted when we held hands, and the ways that my heart missed beats. All I had to do was close my eyes and imagine Dalton's firm hands, touching my skin, slowly, sensually, and there, the moans came out. And Jason was completely fooled.

He even wore a smirk before he locked the door behind him. He still thought he was in control. He still saw himself as the author, but honey, the rules had changed, and I certainly couldn't wait to see his face when he finally realised that I had been fooling him all along.

Thirty minutes after Jason went out, I heard the shuffling sound, then a click, and a push. I didn't need to open my eyes to know who had just entered, the driver, of course. The man who was supposed to help ruin my innocence.

He stumbled forward. Almost fell over me, and I woke up from my 'sleep', eyes clear and scrutinising, locked on his, and he looked away, his cheeks heating up with what looked like shame

Torin.. That was his name. He had been my driver for the longest time. He was in his early thirties. Maybe, over twelve years older than me.

I thought I could trust him. He had been with me more than any of my parents had, after all. He would carry me to business meetings, yes, two months ago, I worked as Jason's secretary. He would drive me home, to the Riggs house, to the malls, business dinners, everywhere.

I had thought highly of him, treating him like family, kindly, generously, and yet, at the promise of a few benefits from Jason, he stood right before me, face flushed, clearly drugged, as he stared at me, ready to ruin my innocence.

" How much did he pay you?" I asked, my voice deep and clipped, undesguised mockery framing my soft features.

" What are you talking about?" He asked, feigning ignorance, and I nearly scoffed.

" Your wife and daughter. " I started, and pure panic gripped his face.

" They would be disappointed in you." I added, and he looked away, jaws clenched, anger simmering at the surface of his eyes.

I knew his family. I had treated them like my family, too. I had even chipped in to help a few times when his daughter was admitted to the hospital, with a mountains of bills that he couldn't afford to pay even if he slaved for two lifetimes.

He had looked grateful, swore his loyalty to me, and yet, here we were. His betrayal didn't hurt any less than Jason's and my father's. I guess his was even worse. I had believed in him, trusted his character, and assumed he had my back.

" Look, Dahlia, this isn't about you or me. Just cooperate, stop being sentimental and all. As for the benefits that he offered?" He paused, a sleek smile dangling at the corners of his lips.

"For me to say yes, just know that it's worth it, that's if you are worried about me." He added, his voice cold, the look on his face scary. He actually looked nothing like the Torin I had known for years. He looked like a different person all together. And if I wasn't very familiar with his frame and structure, I would have mistaken him for an imposter.

Well, I had to give it him though. He was very good at acting. For years, he had managed to hide his true colours, really well.

" But, rich people like you wouldn't really understand what I mean, right? You only see greed, you don't see what it feels like to lack what people like you have been sleeping on for years, born with a silver spoon, lived a pampered life," He went, and the switch was so fast that I got lost. One moment he was being all smug, and the next he was hating on the rich, blaming us for the lives we led.

" Well, I don't expect you to understand me. This looks simple to you, but to me, it is like heaven has been lowered down in the hell that I have been living, and I have to lose something little to gain more. I would be a fool to say no to such an opportunity, sweetheart. " He expressed, greed painting his face, and a small smirk playing on his lips.

" You won't be loosing much, either. For years, you have been chasing after Jason, and he never noticed you. " He added, a mocking smile dancing on his lips. Those words, they didn't just break my heart. They were numbing, totally killing it. It was the truth, after all.

" I heard he never even touched you, but he has Sofia pregnant with his heir. What does that mean? He finds you undesirable." He stressed,

" You should be grateful that I am about.." He opened his mouth, ready to spat yet another insult. I didn't let him.

I locked my fist onto his jaw, and I saw red, but that was not enough to quench my anger.

I found his other jaw, threw another fist, and I think I saw a blood-coloured teeth faling.

He started to panic, opening his mouth, but I covered it with my palm as my knee slammed onto his abdomen, and he went on his knees,

And in one swift fist, I knocked him out, wiped my hands and walked for the door, but not before flushing a mocking smile at the camera.

It was recording, and although they weren't watching it at the moment, since they were busy, at the stage, probably reciting their vows, I knew they would watch it later.

" Good. Although I knew the plan, I was still worried about you." When got out that forsaken room that reeked of blood and greed, I found Freya at the door, and her eyes twinkled with relief when she saw me.

" Everything is in place. They are at the alter." She whispered, her chin moving upwards.

" Miss Green is well behaved too. She has been following our orders religiously. I wonder what you have on her, Dahlia?" Her tone shifted from amusement to confusion, and I just smirked at her.

It was better if she didn't find out about what I had on Miss Green. Learning that your best friend, that girl that used to be innocent and harmless, was using a kid and an elderly woman to to force someone into doing their bidding could easily trigger a heart attack. I didn't want that, especially since she was supposed to be my maid of honour.

Upstairs, I could hear uplause and music. The wedding was in full swing, Jason, probably wore a sick smile, as he dreamly said yes to the woman of his dreams. But dreams? more like the woman of his doom.

And Sofia? She probably wore a shy smile, perfectly fitting in the role of an innocent bride, soft and easy to the eyes, alluring in all angles..I couldn't wait for the the world to see her true colours.

" Let's get out of here, Freya!"

" It's time you play your role as my beautiful maid of honour," I whispered, not looking at her, my cheeks heating up as I stared at the glaring message on my phone.

You guessed right. It was from Dalton, the husband of my future.

" I came a little earlier than promised. The groom can't wait."

" Surely, my bride wouldn't be offended, would she?"

" Come out, I am outside the hotel. "
