Chapter 29 Double celebration!

Max had always been stable and reasonable, and yet, whenever Dahlia was brought to the equation, he would lose it all. She was actually the only person who could make his heart soften. With my intelligence, of course, I had seen right through him from the very beginning.
" You have always been in love with Dahlia, haven't you?" I asked as I wiped the blood that was trickling from the corners of my lips. I even managed to crack a smile, my gaze sharp, as I held his.
He didn't even deny it. He simply clenched his jaws, tighly, and that was answer enough.
" Well, I won't have her, and you won't her either. Bros, don't share btches!" I snapped, a sardonic smile tagging at the corners of my lips as I stared at the locked door.
" You won't interfere in whatever will happen in that room." It was not even a question. It was a promise.
" I won't allow you to humiliate the woman that I love like that, Jason. You don't love her, fine. But you don't get to fck her up." He sneered, his jaws ticked, and fingers clenched. He was rebelling, ruining our years of friendship just because of Dahlia.
But he was forgetting something. The Riggs ranked higher in status than his family. When it came to power, he still had to show me some respect.
" Your family has recently signed a deal with ours. Your father was very pleased, actually. The deal can be called off any minute from now. "
" And there are more pending deals. In the future, if you insist on interfering, there won't be more cooperation between our families. " Less weighty, those words were delivered in a casual manner, and yet, they had his face going pale, and his lips trembling, with what looked like anger and disbelief.
" What do you say, young master Max?" I asked, highlighting the toung master part. Without my family's backup, they would be struggling to survive, let alone maintain their lifestyle in Goldville.
" Fine," After a moment of hesitation, he finally conceded, but he was still simmering in anger.
" Wise decision. Now go back there, dress up and play my best man like you were supposed to." I whispered, motioning towards the men's changing room, and when he disappeared, I walked into the adjacent look, the room next to where Dahlia was - my father was waiting for me.
" How is everything?" He asked, a calculating glint glazing his eyes.
" I heard about the plans that you have. " He added, his stern gaze holding mine.
" Look, Jason, I don't care about who you marry. As long as she is from a reputable family!"
" Our family image is everything! And the things that you are doing, druging your fiancée, and marrying her sister, I don't care."
" Just don't mess this up!" He snapped, and I simply gave a node. I already had everything in control.
" In the next two months, the main branch of the family, the Capital Riggs, will be hosting an event."
" They have decided to recognise heirs from the family's side branches." Seriousness morphed into his features as he explained.
" We might be an illegitimate branch, but we still have the Riggs blood in our veins. "
" I am too old for this, but it is a very promising opportunity for you. These past few years, your name has become a household name in the streets of business, you have accumulated real success, and your potential is limitless." He added, his meaningful gaze strained on mine, the pride in his eyes boosting mine. I had waited for years, to see that recognition in his eyes, to see that streak of pride in his eyes, and now that my hardwork was finally paying off, I couldn't have been more proud of myself.
" The main branch is looking for promising talent from their bloodline. If you get picked up, that will totally change everything. "
" I have already submitted your name. The position is very competitive, too. It will be an all-round test. They won't just be looking at your business acumen." He went on, the seriousness of the matter highlighted by his grave voice.
" And, I heard from the news that Dalton is finally getting married. " As he whispered that part, my ears perked with interest. Dalton was my mentor, the success that I had accumulated was fully inspired by him. I had followed his footsteps, and that was the best decision ever. My goal had always been simple, to be like Dalton Riggs, my uncle.
To hear that he was actually getting married, and that too, on the same day as I was?
What a pleasant coincidence?
" Who is the girl that he is getting married to?" The question was out even before I could think. I didn't know why I asked. Maybe it was because of genuine curiosity, or, maybe, it was because of my competitive spirit. Or, maybe, I wanted to compare my distance uncle's bride to mine and see who was pretty, I couldn't tell.
" I don't know either. But I got insider news." He whispered, a rare streak of interest glazing his eyes. That was rare. For the longest time, my father had always been stiff and serious, the real definition of the family's patriarch.
" I heard she is a lady from one of the richest families in the country."
"I managed to get a hold of the news about the hotel that they will be spending their night at after the wedding. "
" Since you will also be tying the knot today, it will be fitting for you to go and congratulate them. I have already prepared the gifts."
" I will have the butler deliver it later them later." He explained, seriously, and I couldn't contain my excitement.
After years of admiring my uncle from a far, I was finally going to meet him and his newlywed bride, my aunt! That called for celebration. Not to add, I was finally marrying the woman that I truly loved. Double celebration.
" Try to be in your best, Jason."
" This might be the opportunity that our family has been waiting for for years. "
" We might get added into the Riggs' family register, even"
" Also, about Dahlia, make sure she causes no problems." Saying that, he flashed me a warning look, a look that I knew too well.
" She has been clinging to you for years. She won't be easy to shake off. You can promise to keep her at the side. That will be enough to placate her." He added, and I was amazed by his brilliance. That could work, too.
If Dahlia behaved herself, I would have no problem with keeping her as my side woman.
