Chapter 93 She Is the Old Lady’s Family Member

Chapter 93 She Is the Old Lady’s Family Member

He then glanced at Emily with an even more secretive look.

Hah, so what if she goes back to the country?

No one can stop me from entering the Baker family now!

Seeing Grace crying her heart out with her head down, Emily felt even more suspicious.

Everything seemed to fit perfectly, but why did it still feel off somewhere?

Whatever, as long as Grandma wakes up, everything...

Bang!

Right then, the light in the emergency room went out.

Several doctors came out with serious faces, looking exhausted as they took off their masks.

"Where's the patient's family? It's critical. We need a signature to confirm the next steps!"

Grace stepped forward right away. "Doctor, hi. I'm Mr. Baker's... provisional fiancée. He can't get here yet. You can tell me anything. I can handle it for him!"

The lead doctor frowned and eyed her, hesitating. "What do you mean 'provisional fiancée'? We only accept immediate family or authorized reps. You can't make decisions for the family!"

Grace's face froze.

Damn it!

Was she really going to let this old lady hold out until Alex got back?

But she didn't dare claim any other title.

After all, Alex had warned her...

Suddenly, her eyes welled up again. She stood there looking wronged and helpless. "But Grandma right now..."

"Doctor!" Emily stepped up. "Tell me. I'm Margaret's goddaughter. She's treated me like her own granddaughter all these years. I can take full responsibility for what comes next!"

Ryan froze when he heard that.

Goddaughter?!

Didn't that make her Alex's... sister?

Pfft!

He couldn't help wanting to laugh thinking of that guy's dark face.

Grace was stunned too.

She clearly hadn't expected Emily to have this connection.

The old lady had actually made her a goddaughter?

Then wouldn't Emily get a share of the Baker family fortune someday?!

Nice one, Emily really knew how to play her cards!

First divorce and take a chunk of money, now scheming to get the old lady to adopt her.

Emily wanted it all!

The doctors exchanged looks, then the lead one spoke heavily. "The patient had a sudden heart attack from anger, triggering acute heart and brain complications. She was near shock when she arrived. We fought hard and stabilized her vitals for now, but it's still not good. The best case is long-term coma. She'd need round-the-clock care, and... the chance of waking up is very low."

Long-term coma?!

Those few words hit Emily like thunder.

She staggered back half a step.

Ryan quickly grabbed her arm. "Emily, you okay? The old lady's still in there waiting for you to decide!"

Right now, Emily's chest felt squeezed by a giant hand, hurting so bad she could barely breathe.

"Long-term coma... does that mean Grandma might end up as a vegetable?"

Just thinking of the old lady who always smiled and called her Emmie baby, who loved and protected her, maybe never waking up again—it hurt like nothing else.

The doctor sighed helplessly. "That's the best outcome. If we'd been ten minutes later, we might not have saved her."

"You family discuss it. Best to get her immediate relatives here."

"Otherwise, with this situation, the goddaughter will have to sign first."

Emily went quiet.

Grace stood by, a flash of glee in her eyes.

Vegetable? Perfect!

She'd have plenty of chances to act, and with the old lady in a coma, it'd be even easier!

In a flash, Grace cried harder, covering her mouth and choking. "H-how could this happen..."

"It's all my fault. If I'd noticed Grandma wasn't feeling well sooner..."

Her crying was driving everyone nuts.

Emily pushed down her churning emotions, grabbed Ryan's arm, and said urgently, "Quick, find a way to reach Alex! No matter what meeting he's in, get him here now. He has to decide this himself!"

Ryan lost his usual playfulness, nodded seriously. "I'll call his private line now, then his assistant. Even if the sky falls, I'll drag him here!"

He stepped aside to make the call.

Emily closed her eyes, took a deep breath. "Doctor, please keep Grandma stable for now. For everything... go ahead with the coma care plan first."

"Okay."

Once the doctors had a plan, they sent people to set it up.

Then Emily looked at Grace, who was sobbing softly. The chill in her eyes grew.

This was all too coincidental.

Coincidental enough to make her suspect the old lady's sudden attack wasn't an accident at all.

Grace kept her head down, hiding her eyes, still looking heartbroken on the surface.

Meanwhile.

Alex's international meeting had just hit a key part.

Michael burst in, face pale as a ghost.

Ignoring the execs' stares, he leaned in and whispered, "Mr. Baker! The old madam had a sudden emergency. She's in the hospital getting saved. Mr. Morrison called your private line. He says it's urgent—you have to go!"

The second he finished, Alex's face changed.

The air around him turned freezing. The other execs and shareholders all shivered.

Wh-what happened?

The man shot up, voice icy. "Meeting paused. Handle everything later!"

Before anyone could react, he stormed out.

"Get the car! To the hospital!"

"Yes!" His assistant didn't waste time, speeding all the way.

Alex leaned back in the seat, turned off do-not-disturb on his phone.

Seeing dozens of missed calls, he lost his cool. His hand on his knee clenched tight.

Bang—

He punched the armrest hard.

The assistant broke out in cold sweat, driving extra careful.

If he heard right, the armrest just cracked.

Alex stared at his phone screen. All the missed calls were from Susan and Ryan.

Damn it!

The pain in his knuckles was nothing compared to the regret in his chest.

Grandma had always been pretty tough—how did she end up in emergency like this?

A wave of panic he'd never felt swept over him.

If something happened to Grandma, he'd never forgive himself!

Ten minutes later.

The black Maybach screeched to a stop at the hospital entrance.

Alex shoved the door open and got out, his suit still radiating chill.

He rushed straight to the emergency room hallway.

Right then.

Grace, eyes red, kept watching the hallway entrance.

She knew Ryan had called Alex.

This was her best chance to shine!

Sure enough, steady but hurried footsteps came. Grace pinched her waist hard.

Hiss...

It hurt, her eyes instantly reddened, tears rolling down. "Alex, you're finally here. Grandma she..."

Alex glanced at her, frowning.
