Chapter 46 Grace's Fetus is Disturbed, Hospitalized
Grace's face turned pale and flushed alternately, her palms covered in cold sweat.
Rachel's words hit her right where it hurt, every single one.
And Emily sat across from her, watching calmly.
That indifferent gaze felt like naked mockery to Grace.
Her emotions surged, her chest heaving up and down.
Emily frowned slightly. Not wanting to drag this out any longer, she simply pulled out her tablet. "Just tell me how you want to modify the ring."
Grace took a deep breath, her voice trembling with anger. "Alex thinks the diamond on this ring is too small, and the design isn't fancy enough. He doesn't want me to settle for less."
Emily was speechless. She showed Grace the draft on her tablet. "Based on your requirements, it would ruin the overall aesthetic, and also..."
"I don't care!" Grace suddenly stood up. "This is my wedding ring. I can modify it however I want! If you can't do it, just give me my money back right now. I'll find someone else to design it. Don't think you... Ah, it hurts!"
Before she could say more, her face suddenly went white.
Grace's whole body went limp as she gripped the table, clutching her stomach and slowly crouching down.
Emily was startled. "What's wrong?"
"My stomach... my stomach hurts so much..." Her voice was full of pain, and she broke out in a cold sweat.
Emily frowned. Although she didn't like Grace, she couldn't just ignore the child in her belly. She walked around the coffee table and went to help her up.
But Rachel grabbed her arm and stomped her foot in frustration. "Grace, stop faking it! If you're going to pull a scam, at least come up with a better excuse. Alex isn't even here, so no one's going to feel sorry for you."
But as soon as she finished speaking, Grace's body went soft and she collapsed straight down.
"Hey!" Rachel frowned.
Emily's heart sank. "Something's wrong. She's not faking it. Call an ambulance, quick!"
At the same time.
Alex was in a company meeting. "For this project bid—"
A vibrating phone interrupted him. He glanced at the caller ID, and his eyebrows suddenly arched up, a hint of a smile playing at his lips.
He signaled the manager to continue the report and turned to answer the call. "What, realized you were wrong?"
Emily stood in the hospital corridor, her voice cold. "Grace passed out. She's being treated in the emergency room right now. You should get here as soon as possible."
With that, she hung up.
Alex's heart sank. He grabbed his coat and left.
"Hey, Mr. Baker!"
The manager behind him was stunned.
Was he supposed to present this multi-million dollar project by himself?
At the hospital.
The red light above the emergency room was on.
Grace had already been wheeled inside.
Emily sat on a bench in the corridor, her expression somewhat grim.
As a mother herself now, she naturally knew that nothing was more important to a mother than her child's wellbeing.
She just hoped the baby would be okay.
Beside her, Rachel looked both angry and heartbroken. "Emmie, why are you even bothering with her? She passed out on her own anyway, it has nothing to do with us. And when Alex gets here, who knows how he'll blame you!"
Emily's expression was calm. "The child is innocent."
She looked up at the lit red light and said nothing more for the moment.
Ten minutes later, Alex arrived at the hospital.
He spotted Emily right away.
Their eyes met briefly in the air.
Emily just looked at him calmly.
He looked like he'd just rushed over from the office. The only person who could make him this anxious and upset was probably Grace.
The next second, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Alex's words were ice-cold. "Emily, how did Grace suddenly pass out? And why were you there!"
The accusation in those sharp eyes was almost tangible, piercing Emily.
"Alex, are you crazy?"
Rachel immediately stood up and pushed him away.
She stepped in front of Emily protectively and shot back. "She kept picking fights and demanding Emmie modify your wedding rings—it was cruel! Besides, she passed out because she couldn't control her emotions. What does that have to do with Emmie?"
Alex sneered. "What does it have to do with her? Emily, I warned you to stay away from Grace!"
Before Emily could speak, Rachel lost it. She put her hands on her hips and laid into him. "Alex, do you even know who your wife is!"
Alex's gaze grew even colder.
Rachel was about to say more, but Emily stopped her and slowly stood up, her eyes calm as she looked at him.
Those clear eyes held no anger, no grievance—only the indifference of still water.
"Alex, is this really what you think of me?"
Her gaze was so cold that Alex felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest. "Don't you..."
Just then, the emergency room light went out.
The doctor pushed the door open and walked out, removing his mask with a serious expression. "Who is Grace's family member?"
"I am." Alex's stern face was full of urgency.
At those words, Emily's face suddenly went pale.
He was Grace's family member?
He wasn't even pretending anymore.
The doctor shook his head helplessly. "The patient is out of danger for now, but the situation isn't great."
"She's showing signs of threatened miscarriage. This episode was triggered by severe emotional distress that disturbed the pregnancy. Fortunately, she was brought in quickly, or the baby would have been lost. She absolutely must rest from now on and can't be exposed to any more stress, otherwise..."
Alex pressed his lips together, a cold aura spreading around him.
He arranged for Grace to receive the best medical care.
"Come with me." Ignoring Rachel's cursing, Alex pulled Emily away.
At a corner in the corridor, Alex looked stern. "Are you satisfied now? What did you do to Grace? Why did she get so upset that she passed out!"
Emily's wrist throbbed with dull pain. She frowned in discomfort, and seeing she couldn't break free, she simply looked up. "After she made her modification requests for the ring, I gave her the most professional advice. It was completely reasonable communication. If you don't believe me, you can check the café's security footage anytime."
With that, she forcefully pulled her hand back, her eyes cold and emotionless. "That's all I have to say. Everything I've said is based on facts. If there's a problem, call the police."
Not wanting to get further entangled, she left without looking back.
Alex's eyes darkened.
She wasn't even bothering to explain anymore?
Before he could get to the bottom of it, Grace had already been wheeled out.
Back in the hospital room, Grace weakly opened her eyes.
Seeing him by her side, tears immediately welled up. "Alex, you came... I was so scared."
A flash of guilt crossed Alex's eyes. "I'm sorry. I've been busy with work lately and haven't been there for you."
