Chapter 14 Completely Disheartened
Emily froze for a moment.
It dawned on her that Alex thought she was malicious, going so far as to bring Grandma here deliberately to make things difficult for Grace.
Looking at the undisguised disgust in Alex's eyes, the last bit of hope in Emily's heart completely shattered.
In his eyes, she was just a vicious troublemaker.
Emily had never felt so tired. She didn't want to explain anymore.
"Think whatever you want. I'm just here to get the divorce papers."
From now on, we go our separate ways.
Alex sneered, his thin lips curling mockingly. "Why the act? You brought Grandma here just to have her back you up and take your side!"
With that, he pulled Grace to leave.
Seeing this, Margaret quickly blocked Emily's path, glaring at Alex. "You ungrateful brat, what nonsense are you spouting! I came here on my own, it has nothing to do with Emmie! It was Grace..."
"Grandma!" Emily quickly held her back, shaking her head.
There was no point.
Grandma didn't need to speak up for her anymore. After all, in Alex's heart, he had never believed her.
Alex paused mid-step, turned around, his tone full of impatience. "Emily, what's with the act? If you did it, just admit it! You want the divorce papers? They're upstairs in the study. Go get them yourself. Grace, let's go."
The two left the Baker family villa directly.
And Grace, nestled in Alex's arms, secretly smiled, her eyes full of smugness.
So what if the old woman favored Emily?
Alex still took her side in the end!
Once she became part of the Baker family, who would even remember Emily?
They were getting divorced soon anyway!
Grace smiled triumphantly and got into Alex's car.
Meanwhile, in the living room.
The old lady's chest heaved violently with anger. "That stupid boy, so foolish, completely blind!"
But Emily, watching the two leave together, only felt completely drained.
Three years of deep feelings, in the end, couldn't compare to a few tears from someone else.
Alex was cold to the core.
Margaret hugged her with heartache. "Emmie, Alex has lost his mind. Sooner or later he'll realize how good you are. Our Emmie has suffered so much..."
Tears glistened in the old lady's eyes.
She could have clearly explained everything for Emily just now, but Emily stopped her. Obviously, Alex had broken her heart completely!
"Grandma, I'm fine." Emily held her aged hand, her voice devoid of emotion. "He and I, our fate has run out."
Alex's attitude said it all.
No matter how much she explained, in his eyes it would only be excuses.
She was tired, truly tired.
She didn't want to waste another ounce of energy on this relationship that was already full of holes.
"But..." The old lady wanted to say more, but seeing the exhaustion and determination in Emily's eyes, she swallowed her words.
Left only with heartache and helplessness.
Emily helped her upstairs. "Grandma, Alex is devoted to you. He didn't mean to talk back to you. Besides, we're just not right for each other. Separating is better for everyone, and saves us from hurting each other. You must take good care of yourself and don't get angry. It's too bad for your health."
Margaret grew even angrier. "That brat has his eyes in his pockets! He doesn't want such a wonderful wife, and instead circles around that vixen! He'll regret it someday! Emmie, it's hard on you that you can still speak well of him. The Baker family... has wronged you."
Emily shook her head.
She and Alex couldn't talk about who wronged whom.
It was she herself who insisted on banging her head against the wall.
Then she helped Margaret into the study.
And there on the desk, the divorce agreement lay spread out.
The names on the last page were already signed - hers and Alex's.
Who would have thought that after three years of marriage, their names would appear together on divorce papers.
A trace of bitterness rose in Emily's heart, but she quickly suppressed it.
She picked up the divorce agreement from the desk. "Grandma, we'll officially divorce in a few days. The agreement is very clear. From now on, we go our separate ways. We're completely done."
Margaret's eyes instantly reddened.
She took Emily's hand and patted it gently. "Emmie, it's that stupid boy Alex who's blind. A wonderful child like you should have been cherished, but instead you suffered so much with him."
"Grandma, don't say that. Actually, there's no right or wrong in marriage." Emily held the old lady's hand. "We're just not suitable. Alex has someone else in his heart. You can't force love. Separating is better for everyone."
That was truly what she thought, she just realized it too late.
Then she casually put the divorce agreement in her bag. Emily said. "Grandma, when I'm not by your side anymore, you must take good care of yourself. Don't get angry, and stop reading what those online experts say. Remember to dress warmly when it gets cold. Alex... he's devoted to you in his heart. If you need anything, just tell him. Don't keep it to yourself."
These words came from the heart.
In the past three years, Margaret was the only one in the Baker family who truly treated her well.
She had always kept this kindness in her heart.
Now that she was leaving, this old lady was the only one she couldn't stop worrying about.
Margaret's tears flowed as she hugged Emily. "Silly child, still speaking up for him at a time like this."
"Don't worry, Grandma's body is still strong!"
"But you, all alone out there with no one to rely on, what will you do?"
After a pause, the old lady suddenly let go, immediately took off a jade bracelet from her wrist and pressed it into her hand. "This was part of my dowry, it brings safety. Take it, consider it something from Grandma to remember me by."
Emily was startled and quickly tried to refuse. "Grandma, this is too precious, I can't..."
"Listen to me!" The old lady refused to take it back no matter what.
Then she took out her phone and operated it skillfully.
The next second, a seven-figure sum was transferred directly to Emily's account.
Margaret's eyes were full of love. "This is a little something from Grandma, so you'll have some security when you're out there."
"Grandma, this is too much, I can't take it." Emily quickly tried to return it, but the old lady held down her hand.
"Take it! Grandma is giving this to you, not the Baker family. If you don't accept it, you're saying Grandma gave too little."
Looking at the old lady's stubborn eyes, Emily's nose tingled and tears nearly fell.
How could she think it was too little?
She knew the old lady truly cared for her.
Even knowing she was leaving, she still transferred such a large sum of money to her.
Emily sniffled, her voice choking up. "Thank you, Grandma."
Margaret nodded, reached out to wipe away her tears, her kind voice full of concern. "If you run into trouble in the future, don't shoulder it alone. Call Grandma directly. Grandma will always be your strongest support!"
Emily smiled through her tears, then nodded firmly, carefully placing the jade bracelet in her bag.
Now, there was truly nothing left to miss.
After saying goodbye to Grandma, Emily walked out of the Baker family villa without looking back.
The sunlight was blinding, but she had no regrets whatsoever.
