Chapter 13 Sudden Blood, Panic!
Emily is so thin, it makes people feel sorry for her.
Emily felt a warmth in her heart and smiled. "Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself."
Then she took a deep breath, completely settled down, and put all her energy into her design work.
As for grandma's bracelet... she'd see if there was any chance to get it repaired when she went abroad.
Emily rushed to send the draft over, accounting for the time difference.
Her design style had always been clean and elegant, yet delicate.
The natural charm was particularly eye-catching.
Sophia quickly sent back an email. "Great, the new rebirth and transformation concept you incorporated this time is excellent. We can finalize it!"
Emily breathed a sigh of relief. Perfect.
As long as she completed the projects at hand, things would go more smoothly once she got to Paris.
Meanwhile.
The atmosphere in the Baker family villa was a bit strange.
The room that originally belonged to Emily had now been completely redecorated, with none of the familiar feeling left.
Alex's eyes darkened, feeling inexplicably irritated.
Looking at Grace sitting on the edge of the bed, Alex narrowed his eyes. "Who told you to move into Emily's room?"
The aura emanating from Alex made Grace's heart skip a beat. Her movement of admiring the diamond jewelry set froze.
When she turned around, her eyes were already brimming with tears. "Alex, I didn't mean to. You know, I haven't been sleeping well since I got pregnant. This room has good lighting and is quiet. I thought living here would help me rest better and have a healthy baby..."
Seeing that Alex's expression still hadn't softened, she bit her lip and quickly grabbed his sleeve, shaking it playfully. "I thought Miss Johnson wouldn't mind. Please don't be angry, okay? How about I apologize to her?"
With that, she started to get up.
Alex frowned but ultimately didn't say much more. "Forget it, you can stay here."
Grace was delighted, a flash of triumph in her eyes.
She knew it - Alex was on her side!
But before she could be happy for two seconds, Alex turned and called Anna. "Move all of Emily's things to my room and keep them safe."
"Yes."
Anna immediately brought two servants downstairs to pack.
Hearing this, the smile that had just appeared on Grace's face instantly froze.
If she wasn't used to holding back, her face would be green with anger right now!
What did Alex mean?
They were about to get divorced, yet he still cared so much about Emily's things!
Grace clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging deep into her palms.
No matter what, Emily had already left the Baker family.
From now on, she would be the lady of this house!
The next morning, a car stopped at the Baker family villa entrance, and Margaret was helped out by a servant, smiling. "Hurry and get the imported fruit I brought for Emmie from the trunk. She loves it."
"Yes, ma'am."
Then Margaret walked inside.
Since yesterday, she had been worried about Emily.
She could tell something was wrong between the two at the family dinner. That brat Alex definitely hadn't treated Emmie well!
The old lady couldn't rest easy, so she decided to come see for herself.
"Emmie, look what grandma brought you to eat. There are your favorite cherr..."
Suddenly, Margaret stopped in her tracks at the entrance.
Who was in the living room? It wasn't her Emmie at all!
It was clearly Grace!
This woman was wearing a silk nightgown, sitting on the living room sofa directing the servants.
Looking every bit like the lady of the house!
"Anna, cut up the fruit, use the freshest imported cherries. I'm pregnant now and need to get more vitamins. And that Italian carpet upstairs must be hand-washed. That's a gift from Alex to me, can't be careless."
Grace's face showed smugness, completely absorbed in enjoying her upcoming life as a wealthy family's wife.
She didn't notice Margaret at the door at all.
That bossy manner was even worse than Emily, the actual wife!
Seeing this, Margaret trembled with anger. Her cane immediately struck the floor heavily. "What do you think you are, playing lady of the house in my Baker family! This is Emmie's home. Is it your place to boss people around here? Get out!"
Grace was startled by this sudden angry shout!
The crystal glass she had just picked up fell to the floor with a crash, shattered pieces scattering everywhere.
She whipped her head around and immediately saw Margaret at the door. Her face went pale, the smugness in her eyes replaced by panic.
"G-Grandma..."
Grace tried to stay calm, quickly standing up from the sofa, holding her belly with a gentle expression. "You didn't say you were coming. I would have sent someone to pick you up."
"You didn't see just now, these servants are so clumsy. I was..."
Margaret said. "You really think you're the lady of the Baker family? As long as I'm alive, the Baker family will never have a daughter-in-law like you! Emmie is still here, and you can't wait to take her place? How thick-skinned can you be!"
Grace's face turned ugly at these words.
This old woman really wasn't giving her any face!
"Someone!" Margaret said, "Throw this woman out! The Baker family doesn't welcome her!"
The servants looked at each other, none daring to step forward.
The house was in chaos, the noise continuous, but this entire scene was witnessed by Emily, who had just gotten out of her car.
"Grandma?"
Margaret's heart lifted with joy, and she quickly looked toward the voice.
She saw Emily standing at the door, wearing a simple white dress.
Emily had come back specifically to get the divorce agreement.
Since she had decided to leave, there was no need to drag it out any longer.
Seeing Emily, Margaret's anger immediately subsided and she quickly took her hand. "Emmie, you're finally back. Where have you been? Did this woman bully you! Grandma will have her thrown out right now."
Emily didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She quickly tried to calm the old lady down, then looked at Grace.
Although Emily didn't like her, Grace was pregnant after all, and she was Alex's beloved.
She didn't want to upset grandma or strain relationships because of these two people.
Emily helped the old lady inside to sit down, gently comforting her. "Grandma, don't be angry."
"Miss Miller is pregnant and it's not convenient for her to move around. This is Alex's home after all. It's fine to let her stay here—"
Before she could finish, there was a sudden sound of a car door closing outside.
Alex walked in with a cold face, his deep, chiseled features showing no warmth.
The coldness emanating from him could almost freeze someone.
His eyes swept coldly over Emily. As soon as he entered, he saw Margaret sitting on the sofa looking displeased.
Grace stood to the side, covering her belly and crying pitifully.
Emily, caught in the middle of them both, had a calm expression.
What more was there to understand?
Alex's face darkened. He quickly walked to Grace's side, protecting her behind him, his eyes staring coldly to the side. "Emily, are you making things difficult for Grace again?"
