Danica's POV
I was feeling very nervous and self-conscious ever since Jasmine walked into my room, claiming she had to dress me up for dinner. She wouldn't tell me what dinner she was going to dress me up for and I couldn't possibly refuse after seeing the desperation in her eyes that told me it wasn't just her decision.
"Did the Alpha return?" I asked after the refreshing yet uncomfortable shower but she didn't utter a single word then too so I gave up.
Just an hour ago, I was still either pacing around my room or curling up in my bed into tight balls while hesitating on my decision to go home during my free week.
I was having a hard time deciding that I didn't leave my room all day and Bianca had been out of sight since our last 'argued' discussion.
But right now I'm walking in this overly graceful outfit like a real princess on her way to dinner.
My heart lodged tightly in my throat when I got to the entrance of the dining hall and the guards made a move to open the wide doors.
What if the dress just doesn't suit someone like me?
What if everyone found me ridiculous in a dress that was way past my league?
Just what if...
The thoughts vanished within a heartbeat the moment my gaze landed on Alexander.
His gaze was fixed on me unmistakably and I remained frozen in a spot. You know that feeling of having your body zing from just one thorough stare? That was exactly what was happening to me right now.
I could literally feel his hands... Or worse, his tongue on my skin from that look in his eyes and it sent a wave of heat through my spine.
I broke the ice first with a soft clear of my throat before approaching the table.
I stopped walking when I stood approximately five feet from Alexander, then I muttered, "Greetings, Alpha"
He didn't respond immediately and I took that as my cue to extend a greeting to his Beta as well.
Any girl would be over the moon to have the two most powerful men in the pack stare at them with that amusement and utter admiration in their eyes but Holy Selene, I was so nervous I could peed my panties.
"Greetings Doc" the Beta responded first and I let out an inward sigh before shooting Alexander a hopeful look.
His gaze locked on mine, holding me captive without trying hard, then without breaking the stare, he stood and walked up to me.
He stood really close and I held my breath, trying not to inhale that addicting scent that always had my bitchy-ghost wolf purring non-existent in my head.
Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, he stepped closer, closing the remaining tiny gap between us before bending to my ear level to mutter. "No matter how pretty... and edible you look tonight, little Doc, you don't get the luxury to keep us waiting all night. Now get that pretty ass on the vacant seat right beside me or I might just have a taste of every single inch of your body right here as desert" he whispered the last part and my breath hitched in my lungs as I stared at him in sheer shock.
How could he say that so bluntly? And why the hell was my body tingling from just the thought of him actually bending me over the fucking sacred table and drilling my brains out?
His Beta chose the worst timing to embarrass me further. "You do realize I'm right here and I can hear your conversations very clearly, right?"
I sucked in a sharp breath of embarrassment before walking around Alexander to take the chair right beside him. I wouldn't put it past him to actually do as he'd threatened right in front of his Beta.
I barely noticed Alexander return to his seat as my gaze roamed over the wide table filled with delicacies of all kinds.
Even a person with the worst eating disorder would be able to get something down from all this.
For long minutes, I simply stared instead of digging in and I didn't realize Alexander's gaze was on me until he spoke, breaking through the teary haze that had begun to form in my eyes.
"Dani? Is there something you don't like?" He asked and I blinked, hoping the stray tear remained where it belonged.
I shook my head, not trusting myself to speak.
"Hey... is something wrong?" He whispered, but the concern in his eyes only made me want to tear up even more than I already have.
"No, it's just... I've never had to sit with anyone to eat a meal this grand. Well, unless I had one of those secret sleepovers with my best friend. So I'm just happy?" I told him with a little smile and of course I hadn't noticed how hard his jaw clenched at that moment. I was too lost in my own world, staring at each plate of food, waiting to be devoured by me.
This... All these were far better than anything I've ever watched my family eat and they never let me join the table, they always had a reason to make it look like they were doing it for my good and I had always been stupid to believe that they truly cared... Until recently.
"Eat as much as you want, little Doc. This would definitely come in handy very often from this moment on" Alexander said after several minutes of silence and his Beta practically choked on his food.
"Seriously, Alexander? Are you for real? She's going to join the table for dinner henceforth?!" He exclaimed, his wide eyes glinting with mischief, shock and surprise all in one.
"Of course not! Not just dinner, she's going to be present during every single meal served at this dining hall" Alexander corrected and the expression that crossed Blake's face was priceless. Like sharing dinner at the same table was something forbidden or cursed.
My excitement began to damp until Blake said the next words that gave me all the clarity I needed.
"You... You never let anyone else except me share this hall with you for more than two decades..." Blake trailed off, stealing a few short glances at me as if something might happen if he stared for too long.
"Did you use some kind of dark magic to crawl your way into his solid ice heart?" Blake whispered into my ears and I blinked, wondering if that was an actual question that needed a response.
"I mean, I give you my full permission even if it is dark magic, Doc. You're my lifesaver" he added with a full-ass smile that I knew Bianca would give anything to see.
I couldn't help the giggle that escaped my lips at his entire reaction to the whole scene.
