Alexander's POV
"Forgive me, Alpha! I didn't think she was fit to be a doctor..." The confession got me doubled over in laughter.
"That was why? The reason you were hellbent on making her so miserable was because you think she isn't fit?" I asked, laughing so hard that my jaw hurt.
Hell, it was all I could do to avoid the most tragic side of me right now.
"Tell me, Ivan, If your Luna isn't fit to be a head doctor, who is then? You?" I asked and I saw her blink in shock as she shook her head quickly.
She was one tough woman. One of those I gave an aorta of respect to... Until now.
And right now, seeing her begging for her life gave me a satisfaction I never thought I'd feel.
"Forgive me, Alpha. Please!!! You can't do this to me" she yelled and I couldn't help another fit of laughter.
"You were the sole reason, the root of Danica getting hurt. Tell me why the hell I should spare you when you never cared while risking her life."
"Because you're important?" I muttered and she shook her head again, crying in earnest.
"The nerve of you to think you're more important to me than my Luna, Ivan. I give you real credit for that" I added before pressing an almost melted-hot rod over her shoulder blade.
"Tell me, Ivan. Does that burn?" I yelled over her screams, wanting her to listen to my questions and provide answers just as much as I was listening to her damn noises.
"Does it burn enough to realize what you did wrong?" I demanded again, increasing the pressure of the hot rod on her skin when she said nothing.
She nodded violently, squirming hard in the chair she was tied to.
"What did you do wrong then? Tell me what and where you began to do it all wrong" I inquired, releasing my grip a bit enough to listen to her speak like a normal person.
"I was wrong for hurting your mate" she responded amidst her pained groans and gasps. Too bad that wasn't the answer I was expecting.
"You have no idea how crazy I went, finding every single person that had a hand in that unfortunate incident only for me to realize it all started with you." I said with a calmness that brought a different kind of chill into the room. Handing the rod back to Blake, he immediately replaced it with a freshly heated one.
I brought it down on her left shoulder, hard.
She yelled so loudly, that her voice cracked in between.
"Right under my nose, you forged a guardian consent and you even dared to make someone else responsible for your actions" I continued, smirking amusingly at how audacious her crimes sounded coming from my own mouth.
"Tell you what, Ivan. This is to show you just how little anyone who goes against me means to me. No matter the kind of position you think you hold around here, it doesn't matter if I tell you to quit... It doesn't take me five minutes to order the Royal clinic closed and leave it vacant until Danica's recovery..."
"You might think that's where it ends, Ivan but it would only be the beginning because you'll be demoted and I'll make you start all over again, while you work under the same woman you regarded as a nobody." I told her firmly, knowing how much that would hurt her ego.
"I'm sorry, Alpha... " She trailed off, her voice crooked and ugly.
"Of course, I've forgiven you, Ivan. Just watch me do my thing without a single worry in the world. It's only right that you work for your Luna, anyway" I muttered lastly, cleaning off my hands after handling the rod over to Blake.
"Ten horse whips, no treatment, no feeding and not even a drop of water unless I say otherwise" I gave out my orders and her annoying pleas came again.
"Please, Alpha. You cannot do this to me!!!"
"Feel free to walk on eggshells until Danica's full recovery is confirmed. Because that's the only way you'll get to live, Ivan" I added as I strode out of the prison without another glance back.
Blake didn't waste any time before getting right into action. I could tell by her continuous, croaked yells and the sounds of the punishing whips that followed me all the way until I was out of the underground area, where virtually all torture rooms are located.
Aliya down. Sarah down. Renee down.
Just one more to go. And that was Dani's recovery.
Of course she wouldn't dare render all my efforts to get to the root of her attack useless. She feared me enough not to try that.
Danica's POV
My eyes fluttered open, slowly taking in my surroundings, but it only appeared blurred for more than ten seconds.
I opened and shut it a few times to get a stable view of everything. The dark lit room, the undeniable scent of Alexander and the gracefully simple room.
The events that preceded my slip into unconsciousness came rushing back, fast.
But my body doesn't ache anymore. I don't feel dead and useless like I did back in that forest. But more importantly, I wasn't alone.
I pushed myself up from the bed, slowly noticing how my hands were wrapped up like a mummy.
"My lady! You're awake!!" A shriek pierced through the silence, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I blinked rapidly, looking around for a sign of another lady in the room. Perhaps, someone else that deserves the title.
But there was no mistaken she was referring to me when she suddenly rushed up to me, grabbing my face in her hands while checking around for anything.
"You're okay, right? You don't feel hurt anymore? Do you feel fine?" She bombarded me with the same question in different dimensions and I just sat there, wondering if I'd ascended into the afterlife with my destination as an imaginary Alexander's room.
"Excuse me... Ma'am. Were you talking to me?" I asked silently, trying not to be rude by pushing her off.
"Yes you! Do you know how worried I was, thinking you might never wake up again? Alpha Alexander would have gone completely berserk if that happened!" She muttered firmly, caressing my face softly like I just saved the entire fucking universe.
"What do you mean, berserk?" I asked, trying to wrap my head around everything she just said.
"Alpha Alexander was so worried about you, it almost drove him mad. I've never seen him so angry since I began working for him and that's saying something because I've been here for seventy years." The woman explained and I gasped.
"Seventy?!" I exclaimed, staring her down again.
Okay, she definitely doesn't look like a seventy plus year old.
"I've been here serving the royal family since I was five" she added and I nodded absentmindedly.
"You look really younger than your age" I muttered and she smiled softly before her expression went all emotional again. "I've never seen you before though."
"You would have. If only you hadn't gone unconscious for ten days." She responded and I was already nodding absentmindedly again before something clicked.
Did she just say ten days?
Like the real number 10?!!!
"Ten days?!!!! I was out for that long?" I exclaimed and she nodded twice.
"You were badly injured. It is all thanks to the Alpha for sharing his energy with you occasionally that you're healed. Though I have no idea how he did any of that." She explained and just then a few memories flashed through my head.
Memories of Alexander kissing me a few times while I was unconscious. For someone who was slipping in and out unconsciousness, I doubt those were just random lovers' kisses.
I didn't realize I'd gone crimson red from just thinking about it until the woman's laughter snapped me back to reality.
"I'll leave you to your thoughts while you get ready for your bath. I'll prepare something soothing" she muttered, before turning to leave.
"Ma'am..."
"You can call me Jasmine" she interrupted and I nodded awkwardly.
"Jasmine... Do you perhaps have any idea how my last patient is faring? Did he survive the surgery?" I asked, hoping she knew.
"He survived... Thanks to you, My lady. You need not worry about any of that right now."
Thank goodness. I passed. I fucking passed!
"And Alex... Alpha?" I asked and she faltered slightly before replying.
"He probably had some business to take care of. He left your side just minutes ago”
