Chapter 19 Defiance

Chapter 19 Defiance
I stood there for a long minute just looking at the door, tears stinging the back of my eyes. I could still feel him behind me, although his hand was no longer on the door.

"Please let me go," I managed to say, my hand reaching for the door knob.

It was locked, and no amount of pulling would make it budge.

I turned slowly, realizing that there was no way I could not. My freedom was in his hands, and I was trapped.

He stepped away from me, his eyes cold and emotionless, as he sat on the edge of the bed.

The silence was loud, and I stayed by the door, like I was hoping it would miraculously let me out.

After a minute, he stood up, then grabbed the tray on the bed and turned to me.

"Sit."

"Do I have to?"

"Don't make me say it twice, Kian. Sit."

I swallowed hard, then sat on the edge of the bed. I watched as he slowly grabbed a glass of water from the bedside drawer on the other side, then walked back to me.

I sat there obediently as he towered above me, his hand holding the tray and the glass of water.

"You have pills to take. Open up."

I looked up. "Why do I need pills?"

"You are malnourished. I will have them bring you dinner in a minute."

"Who made me so?"

"Your disobedience," he said, like it was the easiest thing to answer to. "Your stubbornness, Kian. Now open up."

I opened my palm instead, my eyes holding his defiantly. He shrugged and put the pills in my hand, then handed me the glass of water.

He watched as I swallowed before walking away. I turned, watching him as he removed the jacket he was wearing. His back was broad and slightly scarred, probably from his many duels.

I turned away, my eyes blinking rapidly as I tried to catch my breath.

"You should rest before dinner."

Before I could reply, he was gone.

I sat there, listening to the sound of the shower, knowing very well he was right here. The knowledge did unspeakable things to me, and to make sure neither me nor my wolf would act on those thoughts, I sat as still as was humanely possible.

He soon came back, wearing nothing but a large towel wrapped around his waist, water dripping all over him.

I tried my best not to stare, but once his back was to me, I found my eyes drifting up towards him.

My wolf was going feral, and I had to count on my composure to ensure he wouldn't pick up on the scent or the chaos.

A knock came on the door outside, and I watched as he walked to the door. My brows furrowed as he turned the keys in, opened it, stepped out, and locked it right behind him.

He barely even gave me enough time to understand what was going on, and I found myself stuck alone in this place all over again.

"Here is the food, Alpha and...."

I stood up, pressing my ears on the door.

"What is it?"

"There is someone outside waiting to see you."

My brows furrowed.

"Who?"

"It's me."

My eyes widened. Knox's soft yet deep voice was unmistakeable, and I found myself pulling the knob hard.

There was silence for a few seconds before Alpha Eros started to laugh.

"What are you doing here?"

"I am here to perform a welfare check on one of the students under my care. Kian was absent at sports earlier and..."

"And?"

"I want to see him."

Alpha Eros let out a small sigh. "You know how much I hate to have to say no to you, Knox. But no. I am not letting you see him."

"Alpha Eros."

"I am the reason he was absent at the sports. And he is locked in my room right now. That is as good as you will get."

"What is Kian doing in your room?" I could hear Knox's voice thickening, and my chest heaved hard.

"Better than whatever the fuck you think you were doing with him in that basketball court, Knox."

I gasped. He was really there. The scent wasn't an illusion. He was really there.

"Eavesdropping is low even for you, Alpha Eros."

Eros laughed, and I could hear footsteps. "You are better off leaving, Knox. I appreciate the concern for Kian, but I will take it from here, boy."

I pushed the door knob even harder, but nothing I did could move the door. Hitting it was completely useless, as it made absolutely no sound.

"Go on," Eros said. "Leave so he can have a quiet dinner."

"I... I will be back."

"You better not be," Eros said simply, and after a second, the door closed again.

I went back immediately to the edge of the bed, my eyes wide as the keys turned in the door, and it finally opened.

I sat there, watching as he walked in with a tray of food, then closed the door immediately.

It was silent as he dropped the tray next to me and stepped away, his eyes cold. I said nothing too, my eyes focused on the door and his hands.

Where are the keys?

Wait.

"Kian was here," he said slowly, his eyes holding mine as if he wanted to read my expression.

I tried to be as neutral as possible.

"Why?"

Eros said nothing, as he stepped back. "You can go to your room if you want. I need my silence now."

I immediately nodded. "Thank you."

I stood up, then walked to the door, but stopped, turning to him. Something was obviously wrong, and he seemed like he had withdrawn again.

"Eros..."

"Leave," he said simply. "Take the keys from the tray and leave."

I swallowed hard, then turned to the tray. There were no keys.

"I..."

"Just leave, Kian."

"There are no keys," I blurted, my eyes wide.

He turned to me, his brows furrowed, and then to the tray. Sure enough, there were no keys.

His eyes widened slightly, and slowly, they met mine, as if he was blaming me. I could see it clearly now. The keys hanging outside after he unlocked it without removing it, and then locking it back in as he closed the door.

"Fuck," he whispered, and I knew I was screwed.
