The new luna
The new luna
Stormy POV
He stroked my hair while we lay in a borrowed bed.
“Remember what you asked me?”
He looked down at me. “You mean before you rode me like a cowgirl?”
“Alex!”
He laughed. “I meant it. I just thought it was obvious and we’d do it eventually. I saw your face when we got here. I was wrong, wasn’t I?”
“Well, Alex. I wanted you to ask me.”
He sat up and held my face in his hands. “I want you, Stormy. I want you for the rest of my life. You’re my mate and the Luna of my pack.”
I bit my bottom lip. “The rest of your life, you say? That’s an awful long time.”
He chuckled. “Will you have me?”
My wolf clawed at me and whimpered.
There’s no way I’m going to deny him.
“Of course, I will. I’m yours.”
Three weeks after Emery and Tristan got married, Henry pack gathered at the pack house to witness Alex and my mating ceremony.
“I’m going to throw up,” I said.
I paced to the window and back to the bed.
“Do it. It might help,” Leiah said.
“Leiah!” Gabbie threw a towel at her. “Her grandmother’s going to kill us if she gets her dress dirty.”
“Oh, just breathe,” Emery said.
“I don’t think I can. There are too many people.”
I was in the guest room with the women who’d become my close friends. Two of them were rulers of their own packs and were great sources of advice right now.
“It’s intimidating, I know. But everyone else doesn’t matter. Alex matters. These alpha males get very worried when you’re even a second late,” Emery explained.
Leiah grabbed a glass of wine from the table. “That’s why I’m not doing any of this shit.”
“Oh, sure, that’s the reason,” Gabbie muttered and rolled her eyes.
Leiah rolled her eyes. “I’m going to enjoy Alex’s meltdown before you walk out.”
Leiah walked out. Gabbie was right, Leiah wasn’t the same. The light in her eyes was gone. She was still dark and condescending, but her spirit was gone. She didn’t want to talk about her injury the night Gareth had woken.
She insisted she was fine, but we could all tell she was struggling.
“Are you ready to go out, Stormy?” Gabbie asked gently.
I nodded slowly. “If I don’t go out, they’re going to come in after me.”
Ever since the mating ceremony had been announced, my grandmother had travelled to the Henry pack, and Alex’s mother had been on top of things.
Which meant there were two dominant women trying to rip me in two over this. My grandmother was determined to make this the event of the year and so was my soon to be mother in law. The only thing they asked me was if I liked the colour turquoise.
If you asked me yesterday, I would have said I was okay with getting married by the beach. However, that would have killed my grandmother on the spot.
Emery squeezed me. “Everything’s absolutely gorgeous. The ladies did a wonderful job planning the ceremony.”
I sighed. “I’m sure they did.”
“Come on, Emery. It’s time!” Gabbie squealed.
The girls stopped before they walked out. “May I see her?” A familiar voice asked.
“Thora?” I whispered.
She walked into the room. “You look gorgeous, Stormy.”
I looked at my white satin gown. “Thanks… I can’t believe you made it. Since you left McGregor Ward, I didn’t know where to find you.”
“I wouldn’t miss this for the world. Your father and I decided that, after Salazar was killed that we needed to move on from the asylum. It was no longer our sanctuary.”
“Has your mother seen you yet?”
Thora smiled. “I’m not ready. Besides, it’s your day.”
I let out a shaky breath. “I guess I should go out there.”
“Yes, your mate’s already started pacing.”
The entire pack had shown up. My grandmother had outdone herself. It looked like something out of a fairy tale. At the end of a long white rug was my handsome mate.
He’d already run his hands through his hair.
I cracked a smile.
Alex stood beside his father.
I noticed so many familiar faces on my way to my mate. My friends, Elise and Hazel, Xena, the reigning Alpha of the Raven pack and my soon-to-be sister-in-law Alma.
I noticed my parents sitting together, watching proudly.
“Hi,” I said when I made it to my mate.
“Finally,” he breathed out.
“You didn’t think I’d leave you at the altar, did you?” I winked.
He laughed. “You look so beautiful.”
Alpha Rueben cleared his throat, indicating it was time to begin.
“Henry Pack, it’s time for you to receive your new Luna. With her by Alex’s side, you will be ushered into a new era of greatness.”
Alex took my hands and squeezed. I was his, and he belonged to me. I felt it strongly in my bones.
Alex held me in his arms as we swayed to the slow music.
“So, Mrs Henry…” he said.
I giggled. “I like the sound of that. So does this make me Luna lordess or Luna Lady?”
He barked out a laugh. “You can be anything you want.”
“Welcome to the married gang, Alex!” Tristan yelled.
Kade and Tristan approached us. Kade had his kids with him. Seeing them warmed my heart. I wanted little Alex’s one day.
“It took you long enough to join us,” Kade commented.
“Very funny, Sanders,” Alex replied.
While they went back and forth. I watched the party go on. I noticed someone dressed in leather leaning against a tree behind the food table. It was far enough from the rest of the party.
I picked up my dress and marched towards him. Alex didn’t notice me walk off.
“Gareth,” I said.
He straightened his spine and smiled. “Isn’t it the girl who woke me up. I should have bought you something for your wedding ceremony,” he frowned.
I tilted my head to the side. “You didn’t need to do that. Why are you hiding?”
“I don’t think I’m welcome. I’m the Midnight King, remember?”
“Your friends are worried about you.”
He chuckled. “I don’t think so, Stormy.”
“They’ve been looking all over for you.”
“Maybe they want to put me down again. All packs have reported strange things going on.”
I bit my bottom lip. “The moon goddess wanted you to wake up.”
“I don’t know why. I’ve gotten revenge on everyone who was left who put me in that state. My pack’s a mess, and the only woman I ever loved is dead. What do I do, Stormy? You tell me, because you woke me up.”
“I want you to move on,” I said.
He chuckled. He turned his head, and the smile faded.
“Is something wrong?”
“It might,” he mumbled.
“Stormy!” Alex called.
“You should get back to him. He’s kind of nuts.”
“Gareth!” Alex called.
Gareth shoved his fists into his pants and smiled. “Yes.”
“Why are you lurking around like a spy or something. Everyone’s here.”
“I can see that,” he frowned.
“Don’t go anywhere. We have to talk,” Alex said firmly.
“I might stick around,” he mumbled. “Take care of my hero,” he winked at me.
Gareth marched off. I watched as he marched over to Leiah. Leiah stood by the alcohol table. He grabbed her elbow and pulled her close. The wine glass in her hands slipped and shattered at her feet.
What’s that about?”
