The moon goddess

The moon goddess
Alex POV

I felt the black scar that resembled burned skin draw itself on my skin. The one I would carry on my body for the rest of my life for losing my wolf.

She saw her death weeks ago. I should have taken it more seriously.

I should have sent her away and had her locked up until all this blew over.

“I’m not letting you die, Stormy. You might as well come back.”

I placed her limp body into the cold and deep blue moon pool water.

“You did not just give me the will to live and then die, Stormy. That’s a fucking cheat code.”

I found the sharpest rock and sliced my palm. I dropped my blood into the moon pool.

“You better answer,” I growled.

I’d never summoned the moon goddess before, but I knew she responded to all Alphas and Lunas even if she didn’t want to.

“I’ve been waiting for you, Alpha Alex. My, it took you a long time. Did it really have to come to this? Killing your fated mate?”

I turned around to meet her. Her skin glowed like the moon itself and her eyes were like a deadly siren’s song. I was still thirsty to kill someone. The moon goddess would do just fine!

“Fix this!” I demanded.

She held up her hands. “Hold up, Alex. You can’t kill the moon goddess.”

“Try me,” I ground out.

She chuckled.

“Do you think this is funny? The wolves you claim to love so much are at risk. Gareth’s awake and the curse of the midnight king is upon us.”

She nodded. “It was time for him to wake up.”

“And the curse? Didn’t you think about that?!” I yelled.

“I did, Alex. It was an unfortunate thing that the Alpha King was caught in this web.” She strolled to the edge of the pool and peaked into it to see Stormy. “He would have been an ideal candidate for what I want.”

“What does that have to do with the curse of the midnight king? We’ve spent years trying to keep it from happening. We could have died.”

“I know, Alex. You did well. I had to make a decision. If Ivan and his followers succeeded life would have been a lot worse that what it could be now. That’s why I disguised myself as Stormy’s wolf and told her to wake Gareth.”

“You did what?” I whispered.

“Yes, I can do that. She succeeded and now her death has brought you to me.”

“Whatever you want you can have it, but she has to live.”

She nodded. “It’s a deal. I want you to become my representative, Alex. I want you to be the moon lord. I’ll give you a portion of my powers.”

“Are you insane?”

“I know it’ll be making a target of you, but I need a representative among my wolves that ranks higher than the Alpha King. That way you’ll be able to keep Gareth in check. Unfortunately, he will bring chaos to the werewolf world if he’s allowed out of bounds.”

I ran a hand down my face. She was asking a lot from me. However, I was prepared to give up my life for the woman I Iove.

“Will Stormy live if I do this?”

“You have my word.”

“Fine. I’ll do it.”

Her lips curled. “Perfect.”

“Before you vanish. What was that you said about Stormy being my fated mate. I thought you didn’t give me one.”

She smiled. “I give everyone a fated mate. You all just mess it up.”

The moon goddess vanished. The silence in the cave was deafening. I just changed my life as I know it and gained a lot of responsibility. My friends might even hate me.

I walked to the edge of the pool when a hand stuck out of the water.

“Stormy,” I breathed a sigh of relief.

“What the big idea?”

I chuckled and pulled her out. “Hey, Princess.”

I pushed damp hair out of her face and kissed her.

“Princess? I thought I was your Hurricane?”

“You’re my everything, Stormy. I’m so sorry.”

I pressed our foreheads together. She was intact even the blot in her eye. She was perfect.

“I woke Gareth,” she whispered. “My wolf said the moon goddess wanted him to wake up. I know you’ve spent so long—”

“It’s okay. Forget about it. He’s awake and he took care of Ivan.”

She rested her head on my shoulder. “Does this mean we can go home?”

I need to know if I have a home to take her to. I scooped her off the ground.

Time to do damage control.

Despite knowing the moon goddess kept her word I took Stormy to the pack doctor against her will. The moon goddess was a trickster too.

More than a hundred of my wolves were in the hospital. My pack house was destroyed, but the damage in town was minimal compared to the casualties in the mountain.

“So, the punk’s awake, huh?” Axel asked.

It makes sense now how Kade and Tristian weren’t destroyed out there. Axel came to their rescue. I couldn’t tell Kade that though, he’d deny it.

“Yeah and he’s in the wind!” Tristan threw his arms in the air. “Not so much as a thank you.”

“We kept him in a glass case for over five years. Do you think he’ll want to thank us?” Kade questioned.

I folded my arms. “You have a point, Kade. I hate to admit it.”

“There’s no way he was conscious all this time, right?” Axel asked.

We all exchanged a look. I didn’t want to think about that right now.

“Aren’t you going to tell us what deal you made with the moon goddess? Stormy’s alive so it worked, huh?” Kade questioned.

I locked eyes with him and clenched my jaw. “Yes, it worked. That’s what matters right now.”  My friends all stared at me. “How’s Leiah?” I changed the subject quickly.

“We don’t know,” Kade replied.

He sounded hopeless.

“Damn it,” I spat.

“We’ve had a lot of casualties in this war. It’s over now. We have to pick up the pieces of what’s left,” Tristan said.

“How the hell do we do that when we don’t know where we stand with Gareth? He’s not just the Alpha King now, he’s the midnight king too, a beast with crazy powers.”

“All we can do is strengthen our packs again. We did all we could for over five years. It truly is over.”

Now, a new battle begins we just don’t know what kind.
