Freedom from the moon

Freedom from the moon
Stormy POV

I blinked my eyes open. Everything was so blurry. A red coiling chandelier hung from the ceiling. It had two emerald lights. That didn’t make any sense. I must have hit my head harder than I thought.

“You’re awake!”

It wasn’t a mystical red chandelier. It was a woman.

She beamed at me as if I were a new born child.

“Alex hasn’t stopped pacing, but I told him you needed your rest, so I kicked him out.”

I sat up on the bed, and my body protested.

We were back at my house in Henry Pack.

“Who are you? How did we get here so fast?”

“Fast? I don’t know about that, but you’ve been asleep for five hours.”

“Five hours?” I gasped. “No way!”

“I just figured you needed a nap.”

I shook my head, and it pounded in protest. “Who are you again?”

“Oh! My bad, I’m Gabbie—”

“Alex’s best friend,” I finished for her.

She’s absolutely gorgeous. If she weren’t married with children, I might have a reason not to let her come over.

What was I thinking? I’m not jealous.

Alex’s never given me a reason to be jealous.

“I’ve heard so much about you! He’s really infatuated with you,” Gabbie said.

“I haven’t heard much about you,” I said regretfully.

Gabbie frowned. “Why not?”

“Well, I know you went to McGregor Academy.”

“Horrible place,” Gabbie said, rolling her eyes.

“Could it be worse than McGregor Institute?” I grumbled.

She shrugged. “Humiliation, rotten food, getting my ass kicked, my wolf trying to kill me, sounds pretty bad.”

“I found out I was a Lunar wolf.”

“I found out I was a hybrid and my Dad was a hunter.”

“Oh, I thought he was a scientist who designed me to be killed. He wasn’t my dad; he did design me to be killed, though.”

“Oh, you win.”

The door to the room opened, and Alex popped in.

“Oh, you’re awake. Are you feeling better?”

I climbed out of bed. Alex helped me change back into my normal clothes. I was thankful.

“I’m fine, I guess. Where’s Hazel?”

“She’s with Elise. She’s getting situated in the pack. They’ll come back tomorrow.”

I nodded. “And Xavier?”

“He escaped, definitely. I don’t care either. I don’t want to see him ever again.”

Couldn’t argue with him on that, but he did help us.

“I’m going to let you guys talk,” Gabbie said, smiling.

Once Gabbie was gone, it was just him and me.

“Why didn’t you tell me your best friend was so pretty?”

“Now, how would I do that?”

I shrugged.

“Things aren’t the same as they used to be. I still care about her.”

He dragged me back into bed and wrapped me in his arms.

“Alex, we can’t do this,” I said.

“What do you mean? I’ve been worried sick about you.”

“Because we need to figure out if it was worth drinking that awful cure. I want to know if I can shift, Alex.”

He pinned me to the mattress and closed his lips on mine. He climbed on top of me and deepened the kiss. He possessed me and dominated me. He broke the kiss and sucked on my neck.

“Alex,” I moaned.

I arched my back, leaning into him.

“Damn, I want you so badly. Are you sure you want to go outside and shift?”

“No— Yes, I want to know. Will you come with me?”

“Of course, I will, Hurricane.”

We went to the back of the house. I glanced at the mountain where Gareth was sleeping. There was a lot of protection around there. I could see the wolves roaming in and out of there.

“It’s going to hurt,” Alex said.

“Thanks,” I said, removing my clothes.

“I don’t want you to be scared. Just keep breathing. Now, search for your wolf and command her to shift.”

I nodded. So far, my wolf had just been a disembodied voice in my head. I reached inside my mind and searched for an essence.

“Hi Stormy, finally I can speak to you. I’m Katie, your wolf.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. “Hi Katie. Can I shift? Yes, you’re a beautiful Alpha female.”

My bones cracked. I screamed.

“It’s okay, Stormy. Let it happen,” Alex said.

His voice was soothing, but I couldn’t be soothed when my bones were being reshaped. This is why I didn’t remember my first shift. It hurt like hell!

Everything turned back for a moment. I opened my eyes, and I was on the ground.

“That wasn’t so bad,” Alex chuckled. “You’re an Alpha female, Stormy.”

My fur was darker than it used to be. The golden coat I had before turned into a burnt red shade. I wasn’t a Lunar wolf anymore. I wasn’t cursed!

“So, this is what a Lunar wolf looks like,” a woman said.

“You! How the hell did you get on my property?” Alex demanded.

I turned to see the woman squaring off against Alex. It was my aunt. Thelma.
