Chapter 20 Chapter 20

Skylar.

By now my lipstick would be all over his face. I felt conscious of time and where we stood; by now onlookers were looking. I didn't know that yet, but I broke the kiss. I didn't know if it was in my head because I heard Troy groan.

Did that mean he was enjoying the kiss as much as I was?

Nonna and Jay had been watching; I could hear them giggling and hugging each other as though they had thrown a bet that we would actually kiss.

It was bewildering, but I smiled at them.

As expected, there were lipstick patches on Troy; I made to clean it, but he drew backwards.

“Let the whole world know you kissed me today,” he said, and I chuckled.

Troy was hilarious, the kind of boy that fulfilled your wildest desires. Not that this was one of them, but I didn't mind adding it to the list.

“Where are we headed now?” I asked when we got into the car.
“I don't know; we could go get those snacks we talked about. ”,

“And afterwards?” I asked.

“Let’s take one of the lists first.”

We drove to the Tylers’; you just couldn't help not going there. It always had freshly baked snacks and had the best waffles, which was what I actually went for, and a milkshake.

“Are you sure you are good with that?” he asked as we took a seat at the restaurant.
Troy had ordered salad and grilled chicken, and checking the menu, it was one of the most expensive on the list.

“Yeah, the waffles taste nice.” I had to cut off Chuck and feed it to him.

“Tastes good,” he complimented, and I smiled. It was one of the things I was starting to do more lately.

People kept sending glances my way; at first I didn't see anything wrong, not until their eyes started boring into me.

Being the center of attraction did have its consequences, I thought.

Troy must have noticed because he said, “Don't fret; people love staring their lives away,” rubbing my free hand on the table.

“Hey,” I commented, shoving his hands off. “How do you know that line?” I asked, raising my right brow at him. “It sounds like something I could say.”

“Because I read your journal, silly,” he confessed.

“You had it for like two minutes.” I wasn't reassured yet; it was a short time to cram words.

“Because I am a fast reader, Sky.”

I didn't say any other words; we both ate in silence before he dropped me off at the house.

I walked into my room and changed into my home clothes. I guessed Mom was taking a nap; if not, she would have persisted in asking me about Troy. For now he was going to be her favorite, and he had done the work of getting her flowers, peonies, her favorite.

So strategically, he had worn her heart.

I sat on the bed, placing my laptop on my folded laps. It was time to update my blog, which I had abandoned after Tiffany nearly sold me out.

I opened the site, and there were lots of questions flooding my DMs, but I chose to ignore that for now.

“It’s your favorite blogger, ‘Sex in the College,’ and today we are going to be diving deeper into the lives of Mr. Z and Mr. N…. I believe I told you all that Mr. Z had some issues with his stick, and OMG, you won't believe it, guys; it was hard and long. I had to gasp a thousand times so as to not contain my bewilderment.

And another discovery: Mr. Z has other qualities that we all never really saw coming.” I had to post this part before starting a fresh post.

Comments were already that OMGs were all over the place, with answers like, “So Mr. Z isn't really infertile,” while someone else answered the post with, “I think infertility belongs to women.” Another post had a cynical response. “Who cares about Mr. Z when we could go for Mr. N? N is so handsome.”

This was how their comments were…unending.

“So for the discovery of Mr. Z, I think as a blogger, it is hard to see a man who cradles you at night on stormy nights or the one that takes pinkies with you and keeps them or buys you ice cream just to watch you smear it over your face only so that he licks it off with his lips or holds your hands because he notices how you get nervous around people.” I posted this; this time the comments were really a lot.

The girl with the hate comment last time sent a nonplussed sticker, while another was “Gosh, didn't know Mr. Z could be this sweet; I am rooting for him already,” and the other had the “Awwwnnn,” with that ‘n’ unending.

It was time to also update the Virgin's bucket list. It wasn't an erotica like Sex in College, but it always had views, so I kept updating. “You think you know what you want: you want, with the right guy, to have a family and live happily ever after, but all of that could change in the blink of an eye. In today's series, my bucket list is going to change. I didn't want to lose my virginity to a punk, and I didn't want a lover that didn't love me half as much or didn't care for me as I did because it was better to be single than chase a person who would never see you as anything other than a stepping stone. All in all, choose yourself because your life didn't end when you fell in love.”

That was it for today. I felt tired as I yawned, and though I set the alarm for dinner, I doubted I would wake up when it was time.

Actually, I did wake up and was heading towards the kitchen when Susannah saw me; her jaw dropped at the sight of me.
“What, Mom?” I asked exasperatedly.

“Did a fairy godmother visit you in your sleep?”

“Mom, stop.”

“I am serious, hon; you looked so new.” I rolled my eyes at her, and she shrugged, turning her attention back to the table she was setting.

But glancing at me from time to time.

The door opened, and Leo walked in; he was in pants and a vintage shirt.

He didn't look at me; he just greeted my mom as he made his way up through the stairs. It was only till my mom called him that he glanced my way. He sized me up from head to toe; our eyes met, holding each other’s for the l
ongest time before he glanced away.

But his silence has said it all; he was stunned.
