Chapter 89: Brighter future

Chapter 89: Brighter future
A few days have passed by since the battle between us and the darkness.
We have lost so much but at the same time; the battle brought us all in some way, closer together.
Finally, I was home, together with my family and my friends once again.
Marcus hasn’t left my side, not for once since we got back together, and I wasn’t complaining as I missed him for far too long during the time that we have been apart.
In these 5 years that I have been away from Marcus, when I was brought to the dark lands, a man that waited for Tyson and me, outside the Elders castle, preformed some magic ritual that made my necklace to shine and in an instant I felt as my bond with Marcus has dimmed down, I couldn’t connect with him in any way anymore nor could I use a mind link, I was cut out from Marcus in every way possible.
It was horrible, to say the least. I felt so lonely and all I could think about was my mate and my family, my home.
I have tried repeatedly to run away but was always brought back to my captors. I hated Tyson for doing this to me, for keeping me away from my mate and my family and my friends.
He was trying to act as if nothing happened, like everything was normal and we could just move further on. Each time he would take me out for a stroll around the land, trying to woo me, if I would mention Marcus’s name he would go mad.
One time he yelled at me saying, “Forget about him already, he doesn’t matter anymore! Soon enough we will manage to severe that bond and you will be only mine.”
Shaking at those words he once said, that scared me deeply as I never doubt that he was searching for some way to make that happen as I did once ask him but he never gave me a clear answer to my question, I tried to rid of those memories as I looked at myself in the mirror, reminding myself that I am home now.
The knock on my door made me look away from the mirror and walk towards my bedroom door.
Opening the door, I saw Lizzy on the other side, “Lizzy?” I called her name.
She looked at me with a gentle smile showing on her lips, “Are you ready to leave?”
We were heading out to the pack hospital where Annie was held. After the battle, the moment Trent passed away, she passed out from the pain of her loss and was brought to the pack doctor.
Everyone was worried about her as she was no longer Annie we knew and loved, but a quiet, numb shell of the old Annie.
Tanner managed to bring Trent outside the dark lands, and healers tried to save him, but it was far too late. Soon as we got back home, and the news reached to us about Annie’s condition, Tanner was the first one to run to her side before us.
Since that day, he was attentive towards her, bringing her food and drinks, reading to her, trying to get her to talk, but she was too far gone in her grief.
When he was not with her, there was always someone with her, me or Lizzy or even Marcus and Damon.
The Opal pack made alliance with the Blue Moon pack and were now considered as family packs as well, since the two Alphas got close with each other through this time I was away.
We had Damon and his pack members like Damien, Edmond, Wyatt, or Zen, coming over to the Blue Moon pack almost daily and it was nice to have such big family gatherings.
Maximus, Marcus’ father, and I got to know each other better, and he was telling me childhood stories about my mate, making me laugh so hard that I could hardly breathe.
Seems like everything has changed for the better. Marcus has told me that the Law that was forbidding mates to accept each other if they are different species, has been take down and the Elders kept their position as representatives of their kind and slowly things were progressing for the better.
It thrilled me to hear that and to see so many mates finally enjoying each other’s company was a truly sight to be seen.
Stopping my mind from wondering around, I looked over at Lizzy and said, “Yes, I am.”
Turning off the lights, I closed the door behind me and the two of us went off to visit our friend Annie.
Reaching the pack hospital, nurses greeted us on our way to Annie’s room.
Opening the door, we could see Tanner turning his head to the sound of us entering the room, placing the book he was reading as he was sitting close to her bed, onto the night side table.
Slowly, Lizzy and I walked towards the bed just to see a numb Annie, laying there without even looking at us but just staring blindly at one spot.
I looked over at Tanner to ask him, “Any changes?”
He shook his head away sadly as his eyes never left her.
Standing up, he gently caressed her cheek and said, “Annie, I have to go for a while now but I promise I will come back soon as I can.”
Silently we all waited for any sign of her response, but hearing none, Tanner breathed out sadly, looking up at Lizzy and me, “If you will need me, I will be with the Alpha.”
Nodding my head, I said, “Thank you Tanner for everything.”
A sad chuckle sounded from him, “I wish I could do much more, but I have made a promise and I am keeping it no matter what.”
He walked silently out of the room, leaving Annie alone with Lizzy and me.
Lizzy and I talked with her, speaking of all the things we did that day while we combed her hair and made a braid of it.
Little later, the door opened and doctor Sommers walked inside, holding the chart as she went to check on Annie.
After a few minutes passed, Lizzy and I waited patiently for her to finish as she finally did and turned around to look at us, “I can’t give her medication that at first I have intended to…”
The doctor said sadly, thinking of alternative to help Annie out.
“Why can’t she get the needed medication if it is going to help her?” I asked, worry and confusion written all over my face.
Doctor Sommers looked at me, turning her face to Annie for a moment before she spoke to Lizzy and me, “Annie is pregnant and because of her pregnancy I cannot give her any aggressive therapy. Best I can do is what we are doing already and what you all are doing with her. Hopefully maybe even taking her out for a fresh air would help her slowly to come out of her grieving state.”
Lizzie’s and mine eyes widened at the news as the tears fallen down our cheeks as we silently listened to doctors’ words.
As the doctor left the room, we both went and hugged Annie as we silently promised her she will never be alone.
The next day as I was with Marcus in his study room, he was working on his pack duties while I was roaming through the bookshelf there, searching for something to read later to Annie, the door opened and Logan came as he announced, “Alpha, we have visitors.”
Marcus head went up from his papers as he looked over at his Beta and asked, “Who?”
“The Elders came with Alphas of other shifters communities.” Logan said as Marcus slowly stood up and walked towards me. Holding my hand, he guided us out from the study room and into a big dance hall room where everyone was gathered, waiting for us.
We walked inside, hand in hand, as loud sounds of clapping greeted us.
The pack members placed the last of the tables and chairs as fast as they could so everyone could be seated.
Since it was Marcus’ pack house, we were seated at the head of the table that was looking upon all others.
“I must say that I am surprised and confused to see you all here.” Marcus spoke to the room filled with Alphas and their Lunas together with Elders as he was the only one standing up and looking around at each one of them.
One of the Elders that took upon himself to be a representative to the whole group said, “Alpha Marcus, we all know you haven’t expecting us but as we all had last night a long discussion, meeting, we have all came to agreement and for that is the reason that we all are here, all packs leaders and Elders.”
Marcus looked at the old man and asked, “I wasn’t aware of any meeting otherwise I assure you that I would have attended it.”
Smiles were showing on everyone’s faces as they heard his response while the Elder that was standing continued to speak, “We are all well aware of that Alpha Marcus and if you would allow me to speak our intentions I will proceed.”
Marcus nodded his head, “Yes, of course.”
The Elder walked towards Marcus as he said, “Everyone has seen and heard of your courage and all you have done for every shifter community in this world, and for that you are highly respected and admired by old and by the young shifters.” He stopped for a second before he continued to speak again, “As a powerful figure, a powerful couple as you two are, we all have agreed we would like you to accept a title and responsibilities that follow it.” he finished.
Marcus looked at the Elder and asked, “What title are you speaking of?”
The older man smiled with pride as he said, “We want you to be our Alpha King, a ruler of all shifter communities at once.”
