Because of that, she walked towards me, which made me step back a little. She wasn't too close, but it still made me nervous when she walked closer. Later, she thought about grabbing my backpack and throwing it out the window or suddenly slapping me because she was just having a trip.
I noticed that her height was lower again because she was only below my ears. As expected, when I looked at her feet, she was barefoot again. She was a small man but scary.
"You're weird." she said while staring straight at me.
And I'm the weird one, right?
"Yes?"
"See. You're weird. Your silence is always longer than your sentences. You usually converse with your eyes and not with words. It's like you're having a whole lot of conversation inside your head.
That's you in normal circumstances. But when you're pissed, you talk a lot, say things you're not supposed to speak, and you're totally off your trolley. That's mental. You're entirely bonkers, yes?" she said seriously.
I just noticed that at night, her British accent is thicker. Is that a side effect of sleepiness?
"There you go. You're like a silent pup again. What is it this time, huh?" she asked as if mocking my silence.
I cough a little to clear my throat before speaking.
"Young lady, excuse me, but aren't you like that too? You're often quiet, then you look people from head to toe, then you suddenly walk out. It's even worse for you because after you look, you suddenly frown. Isn't it? That's why it's hard to read. I'm just quiet. You, with a hint of disdain." I told her.
Because of that, she made me suffer again, so I smiled like an idiot at what she did. "That's it! You see, you're suffering again. Go ahead, if you get hit by bad air, your eyes will just turn white." I stupidly sneered while laughing softly.
She just raised an eyebrow at me and said, "I don't understand what you're saying."
"What I'm saying is---"
"I didn't ask you to explain it in English. I don't care what you're saying." she said, getting angry again. "So, why are you following me?" she asked.
"What were you doing in front of my room?" I asked her back.
And because she criticized my sudden silence and the fact that I got what she wanted to say earlier, I thought of adding more questions to my "speak your mind."
"Why did you ask me to cook for you? Why buttered shrimp? Why did you ask me to feed you? And why did you nurse my wounds? Did you do that because you felt guilty for what you did to me?" I asked boldly.
She was stunned and didn't seem to expect me to ask that. Now, I walked towards her and she took a slight step back.
"Now, I'm speaking my mind even though I'm not angry. But I'm confused. I have too many questions inside my head that I want to ask you. Ever since I started working here, the questions in my mind have been piling up and it's all because of what you're doing."
"On the very first day, why did you fail me in the interview? Then suddenly you accepted? Why did you break my phone and then replace it? Why don't you want your siblings to paint it and then why did you suddenly strangle me? Then you suddenly call me in for treatment?" I asked one after another.
"You do confusing actions and you don't explain why. You don't talk at all. So if I often get confused when you talk to me, it's partly your fault because I don't really know how to act around you." I inhaled deeply before speaking again.
"You're confusing that's why I also act confused around you." I added.
I said all of that with courage. It was as if something triggered me to say the questions in my mind.
Even though it was dark, I saw the movement on her neck as if she swallowed hard. She seemed overwhelmed by my next question. You see, I was told I was weird because I often kept quiet. Then when I said what I wanted to say, she kept quiet.
She looked away and now she was staring at the open window near us, where you could see the moon in the sky, one of the lights that provided light in the dark hallway.
"I've only been able to stay in this place for a few weeks, and I've become quite comfortable. Dahlia, the twins, and the others, I've easily put them all at ease. But you...you're my boss here, you're the one who's having the hardest time---" I swallowed before continuing what I was going to say.
"You're the one I'm having a hard time getting along with. It's not like I'm asking you to be as close to me as your two siblings. What's wrong with that? Honestly, when you threw my phone at me and then choked me, that was like a slap in the face..." I saw her fist clenched when I said that, so I bowed slightly but I didn't stop talking.
"But I chose to stay. Because I like teaching your brother and sister, they're really smart. I like the people in this place. I like this place. I just hope...I just hope you're easier to approach. It's hard to make people guess. If there's something you don't want, talk to me, the right one.
Not the one you're going to suddenly answer. Now, if you want something, tell me so I can understand. Actually, it's not just me. Also the other people in this house. Isn't it better if they listen to you and follow your orders because they respect you? Instead of them following your orders because they're scared of you?" because of my last question, she stared at me again.
I don't know if she's angry or not because her reaction remained passive.
But I'm not afraid. To be honest, I'm a little relieved that I said those things. Someone really needs to play a prank on her. It's not that I expect her to change, but at least she knows how I feel, ours.
"That's all. I hope you're easy to approach because you're the boss here. Sorry, I overtalked, you said speak your min---"
"I'm sorry." she said in a very low tone of voice, almost a whisper.
I stared straight into her eyes and was a little surprised by what I heard. She still had a poker face but she was looking straight at me. She didn't seem sarcastic or mocking. She looked sincere. Did she really just apologize to me?
