Mila's POV
"Felicia?" Adrian asked
"Yes. Can I come in? I have to talk to you about something," Felicia answered.
"I'll be down in some time," he said.
"It can't wait," she said, the urgency evident in her voice.
I stared at Adrian, who had a nonchalant expression. His face looked bored as he stood up. I rushed up to him and held his arm.
"Are you going to open the door?" I asked
"Yes," he replied.
"You can't," I demanded, still holding his hands.
"Why?" he asked
"I'm in here," I answered, trying to make him see reasons not to open the door for Felicia.
I was inside the room for damn sake. Felicia hated me enough for being close to Adrian. What would she do if she found out I was staying in the same room with Adrian, a man who she had loved since childhood? I wasn't scared of her actions, but I was avoiding trouble and didn't want to be seen in a tug-of-war with Felicia. My presence was already upsetting a lot of people around here and I didn't want to add more to the list. I knew Adrian would not allow me to leave the pack as things were a bit complicated now. But for how long would I depend on him? Anyway, I couldn't let Felicia see me in this room.
"So?" Adrian asked.
So? Isn't this a big deal? How could he act like this is nothing?
"Well, she can't see me in here," I responded
"Why? She already knows who you are, so I don't think being in the same room with me would mean anything to her. She wouldn't be too surprised, yeah?" he said nonchalantly.
I shook my head. "Please just don't let her in," I replied and walked over to the couch by the side of the room. That way, I could see them both, but Felicia couldn't catch a glimpse of me.
I watched Adrian open the door and Felicia's smiling face.
"Good afternoon," she said, not daring to move from where she stood.
Adrian stood in between the door and the room. He didn't move as he stood in front of the slightly opened door.
"Felicia. Why are you here?" he asked
I could feel the urge for her to leave in his voice. I almost laughed. Unless she was dumb, she could sense the unease in his voice.
If Felicia had sensed it, then she chose to ignore it, because she smiled ever so brightly while trying to poke her head through the door. It felt like she was trying to find out something in the room, or somebody. And if I was correct, the person would be me.
"What is so urgent that you had to come up to my room?" Adrian continued.
"You were having a meeting with the leader of the coup you're leading against rogue attack," she said
"So..." he voiced.
"You didn't show up. And it was unlike you to miss a meeting as important as this," Felicia chimed.
"Ok," he mouthed.
"And it seems like you slept for quite some time," she added.
"Yes. I had something to take care of last night," he replied, smiling a little.
I scoffed. Why was she asking him something as dumb as this? If she wanted to see him, she would have just waited in his study. She didn't have to come up to his room.
"What did you take care of?" she probed further.
"Is this part of the reason why you came here?" he questioned, raising his brows.
She coughed awkwardly. "No. I didn't mean to be inquisitive," she apologized.
Adrian nodded.
"You missed breakfast," she said.
"Yeah. As you've seen, I've just woken up," Adrian said.
"And Mila also wasn't seen at the breakfast table too," she said, staring at him suspiciously.
I smiled inwardly. She was acting like a detective. Her curiosity was at its peak.
"I would like it if you could wait for me in my study," he ordered politely.
"Okay. If you say so," she replied and sluggishly smiled.
"If that would be all," Adrian stated, holding the doorknob, indicating he wanted to lock the door.
"Yes. Yes. You'll be at lunch right?" she asked.
"Yes," he simply replied and smiled softly.
I could see Felicia smiling seductively at Adrian from where I was sitting. When would she give up?
Without further ado, Adrian shut the door and sighed. He seemed not to like her presence that much. I could understand him. I mean, if I was the one who had to face her every time, I would probably go insane. She was simply insufferable.
"Get dressed. Let's go down for lunch," he simply said and walked into the bathroom.
Speaking of food, my stomach grumbled and growled.
"Okay," I replied but sat still on the couch.
"What are you doing?" he turned around and asked
"Umm...sitting down," I replied I was confused.
"Why aren't you standing up?" he questioned.
"You are about to take your bath. I would go in after you," I replied.
He gave me a look.
"You can bath with me if you want to," he stated
It sounded so cringe, coming from him. Why would I want to bath together with him? We aren't a couple after all.
"No. Thank you," I gladly refused, making my face as plain as possible. It was hard not to notice the blush that was creeping up my cheeks.
He shrugged and walked into the bathroom. How could he be so bold saying something like that?
I heard the sound of the shower being turned on and sighed in relief. What would happen if we shower together? Would we make love? Although it wouldn't be called love making as there was nothing love in that. It was just like a transactional sex. A sex where I was the breeder and he was the one that needed a breeder. He wasn't going to change his mind about making me his mate just because he was being intimate with me. According to some rumors I've heard, he had always been intimate with different women. So there was nothing special about me. I was just like those women who he had been in his bed. Some maids talked about how different women come into the palace under his permission and wait for him in a particular room. Well, the only difference I had was I was his breeder. The one who would make babies for him without any emotional attachments.
I wasn't even bothered about that. I wasn't that special anyways.
Adrian came out of the shower, towel tries around his waist. For some reason, I couldn't keep my eyes off him. His abs made my chest do something strange inside. His waistline was something I wouldn't mind dying for. He was using a smaller towel to clean his hair when his eyes landed on me. I immediately averted my gaze and stared at the window instead.
"If you're done drooling, I suggest you go take a shower so we wouldn't miss lunch since we already skipped breakfast," his voice rang out.
I coughed nervously and stood up. Once I was in front of the door, I paused and turned to him.
"Thank you for taking care of me last night," I said, really grateful.
If it hadn't been for him, I wondered what might have happened. I felt a strange emotion yesterday and was a bit violent at heart. It was as if a force or energy was telling me to go out and do something. If Adrian hasn't used that spell to keep me in check, I doubted what I would have done would be anything but pleasant.
"Don't think me just yet. You would still experience it for quite some time," he replied, not caring to face me.
I felt my heart skip a beat. What I experienced yesterday was hell. How would I cope another day? What have I gotten myself into?
"I'm still going to experience something like that?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer I was gonna receive.
"Yeah. Don't worry. I'm always here with you," he assured, finally turning his head to face me.
I smiled lightly. How could someone be so nice one minute, and the next, he is being an asshole? Well, at least he's trying to make me less scared. I nodded and entered the bathroom.
Once I was done showering, I walked out of the bathroom and the bedroom was empty. When did he finish dressing up? How long did I stay in the shower? I walked over to the table as a sticky note that was hung there caught my attention. I gently picked it up.
"I figured you wouldn't want Felicia knowing you and I share that same room, so I went out first. Meet me in the dinning room,"
I smiled to myself. I could get used to his niceness for now. At least he wasn't being a dick for now. I picked up the dryer and stared to blowdry my hair. Adrian had already stocked up the wardrobe with different dresses for me so I didn't have to live like I had no clothes.
I walked gently into the dining room and the first person I saw was Felicia.
Right.
She was staring daggers at me and clearly not concerned to hide it.
"Welcome," Felicia said, a smile forming, but not reaching her eyes.
I walked gently and sat far from Adrian. I wasn't sure I would be able to resist stealing glances at him. He was just so handsome. I guess that was why Felicia couldn't let him go.
"You finally decided to brace us with your presence," she added.
What was she up to?
"Sorry, I missed breakfast. I was busy," I said.
There was just the three of us in the dining room. I guess some of the unwanted people are gone.
"Yeah. Alpha Adrian also missed breakfast. What coincidence," Felicia said, although if one would listen to the tone of her voice, one could see there was an underlying message being passed across.
"As you have addressed it, he is the Alpha. And he must have been busy for him to miss breakfast," I said and helped myself to the food. I was so hungry that I barely heard her response. I just wanted to stuff my face and get going.
I raised my head to see Adrian staring at me amusing. I immediately averted my gaze and pouted my lips. He was starting to do same thing that would make Felicia suspicious. He had already said I was his to her, he didn't have to make it look like he was so into me.
"I'm sorry for not believing you earlier," Felicia apologized.
I felt confused. What did she mean by that? Believing me on what?
"I don't understand," I said.
"I mean the poisoning of the noble," she said.
I frowned. Why was she bringing up such topic now if all time? Oh well, since she wanted to play this game, I'll end it for her. I noticed Adrian had been silent throughout the whole thing.
"Oh. You thought we aren't friends anymore? How would I believe you are really sorry?" I asked.
Felicia stared at me with a sly smile.
"To prove my sincerity, I would like us to have a little tea in the garden we first met," she said.
"That would be nice," I said.
"Then would this evening be alright?" she asked.
"Yes. That would be okay," I replied.
Felicia turned her attention towards Adrian and smiled.
"How is the food?" she asked.
"It's nice," he said.
I saw her face brighten.
"That's so delightful to hear. I made the meal myself," she beamed and clapped her hands together.
"Really?" Adrian questioned.
"Yeah. It's been long I made something special for you," she replied.
"That is delightful," he said and continued eating..
I looked down at my plate and realised she had only made the separ
ate meal for Adrian exclusively.
"Why is there only one plate of his food?" I asked, dropping her fork.
