Chapter 21

Mason's POV

I've never been in a more awkward office place before. Where you try to do anything but look in the eye of the one person you're here to talk with. I swear being in an Alpha's office after being found trespassing is a lot easier to handle than this tense atmosphere. As Mabel was asking my daughter questions about her special ability, she was sending looks my way. She tried to make them discreet but I saw every little look she sent my way. Every look from those heartbroken eyes made me made to crawl up in a corner and die. She was making this situation even harder on me if that was even a possibility.

In the history of excuses, and explanations were having never been an easy way to explain to your mate why you have a daughter with another women. Even before we get a chance to talk her very little trust in my word wouldn't allow me many chances to explain. She'd jump to conclusions and believe I'd rejected her before we even meet. And there was no way that I'd let her leave my life when I only just got her into it.

Every word made she spoke to Jennifer; it sent shivers down my spine. Her voice was so angelic and it soothed his wolf and made him purr like a big kitty cat. He literally felt as if he couldn't wait until his appointment was over, or at least until Jennifer was out of the room. So, I could drag Mabel into her arms and not let her go until she forgives me. I sat in my chair beside Bryn and stared up at the clock on the wall. Watching as every second ticked by, bringing me closer and closer to being with my mate. I have to sort it out with her then go and explain everything to Bryn. I'm sure she would understand completely, as she too is in a very complicated situation with her mate. Bryn's only concern would be the welfare of Jennifer as she deserves to have her father in her life. That's not something I want to change either, mate or no mate Jennifer’s still my little girl.

"OK my conclusion is as I assumed, she has developed a gift. This is very good news, so you can go home now and sleep easy tonight"

Mabel said as she stood up off the couch and Bryn smiled shaking her hand.

"Thank you so much Mabel, I was going paranoid with worry"

Bryn said with a grateful smile and I could see how hard it took for Mabel to return the smile. I turned to Bryn keen on putting my plan into attraction.

"Bryn why don't you take Jennifer out for ice cream and I'll stay and sign all the paperwork with Mabel"

I asked her and I could feel Mabel's piercing gaze in the side of my head.

"That sounds like a plan, I wouldn't mind some chocolate chip ice cream what you think Jennifer?"

Bryn asks her and she brightens up like a Christmas tree.

"Yes!"

She squeals running out of the room and Bryn chuckles running after her. The instant the door closed behind them I turned to face Mabel. She was staring at me, not moving, or making any sounds. I stuck my hands in my jean pockets and walked towards her. She saw me move and she placed her hands out in front of her and blocked me.

"Don't touch me"

She whispered tears pooling in her eyes and I felt my heart shatter.

"Please let me explain"

I beg trying to step closer to and she shook her head. Her face turned into one of horror and anger.

"Explain what Mason that you couldn't wait for me to show up so you started a family with someone else's mate?!"

She shouted tears rolling down her cheeks, and I shook my head refusing her to believe that.

"Mabel please, that's not what happened"

I begged trying to get her to let me explain. She shook her head refusing to believe me.

"Please enlighten me Mason, what excuses do you have for me"

She snapped like a pissed off teen and it hurt. That she didn't believe that any of my explanations will be the truth, and their little trust in me pained me deep inside.

"I didn't claim her Mabel. I'm not mated with Bryn, nor are we legally bound by any marriage or arrangement"

I told her being as straight forward as I could possibly be, her eyes widened and her mouth dropped opened. She stumbled over her words, not able to make a full sentence.

"But you have a child, friends don't have children"

She stutters over her words and I smiled softly. I stepped closer to her and wrapped her up in my arms. She tried to pull away but I held her still and after a few minutes she gave up and stopped resisting.

"Bryn's mate is Alpha Jake; he never marked her so her wolf went into depression and basically went away. Shortly after she was kidnapped by rogues 10 years ago. I was once a rogue and was in charge of feeding her meals and making sure she was kept alive to torture Jake's wolf. We became friends over the time since I was the only friendly rogue. But 7 years after she was taken captive her weak wolf couldn't hold off her heat anymore. Without a mate and without a wolf the heat was going to kill her. I took away her heat but wasn't careful will doing so. Jennifer was born months later and I do not regret her"

I told her explaining everything at one. I stepped closer to her and looked her deep in the eyes.

"Please Mabel you hating me for her, will make me regret her. And as much as I want to spend the rest of me with you, I don't want to regret my little girl"

I whispered tears dripping out of my eyelids, and I saw her eyes mirrored mine.

Mabel sniffled and stepped closer into my arms. She placed her hands on my cheek and looked into my eyes.

"I don't want you to regret her Mason, I'm sorry"

She whispered and he could sense her guilt for yelling at him over her. I smiled and used my thumbs to wipe away her tears.

"No need to apologise, I knew this conversation would happen eventually and I'm glad at how forgiving your being"

I said with a small laugh and she pulled me into a hug. I held onto her tightly and I've never felt so loved and fulfilled in my life. I felt like the missing puzzle piece was found and slotted back into place. I know I never want to lose this feeling and I'm never planning to...
