Chapter 20

The next day I was trembling with nerves. I was so nervous about today's outcome you wouldn't believe me. Today my little girl was going to a shrink, like she's some crazy mental patient. She's innocent even with everything that has happened to her, I'm not sure how she'd take it. It's only one appointment but it only takes 5 minutes to bring out the worst in people. To trend on the boundaries of their emotions and make them crumble.

I'm not completely comfortable with her going there, heck I don't believe any child her age should need to go anywhere near a therapist. If anything, I need to go there more than she does. Last night I woke up screaming and covered in sweat. I had a nightmare about when I was kidnapped, it was about one of the rogues coming into the room in the middle of the night and watching me sleep like some paedophile. I wish the dream were only a nightmare, but it was a memory. Thanks to Mason no rogues hurt me in anyway but it didn't hide the looks I received from them. The kind that sends shivers down your spine and give you the strong instinct to turn around and run.

There was an upside to the nightmare, my scream alerted Jake and he came running into the room. He cuddled me into his arms and whispered soothing words to me before I dose off to sleep in his arms. The moment was so touching and I secretly smiled. He truly cared for me and it warmed my heart. I really did love him but I'm not ready to tell him of my true feelings yet. I still have to determine if the kind actions are because he loves me or as his mate he's obliged to look after me. I'd hate to think he's only keeping me around for his wolf or guilt for not finding me. So, the instant I know he's all in this relationship, I'll express my true feelings to him.

Jake wasn't in the room in the morning but he brought me a coffee and asked if I wanted to talk about it. I declined and said it was no big deal and he let it go for now.

Presently I'm standing in my closest trying to figure out what to wear. It's not like I'm going to the beach, but it's not a formal event either. My outfit has to be nice and simple but also professional. Mason just says to wear a plaid shirt and jeans to have the right look. I have so many clothes to choose from and none seemed to fit into the occasion.

"Jake!"

I call out and I hear his footsteps running up the stairs. He enters my room and walks over to my side in front of the mirror. He wrapped his arms around my waist and placed his chin on my shoulder.

"What's up?"

He asked me casually as if today another day in paradise and he was wasn't affected at all. Well technically it wasn't his kid being taken to a shrink.

"I have no idea what to wear"

I said with a pout on my lips and he chuckled letting me go and walking into my closet. I heard him rummaging through my coat hangers before he came out with a pile of clothes in his arms. He had selected my beige button up top, my dark blue skinny jeans and a black scarf to accessories with. I took the clothes out of his hands and decided they were perfect for the occasion.

"Thanks Jake, I didn't even know I had these"

I thanked him placing the outfit on my bed and smiled over at him. He smiled back,

"Your welcome, and god luck with the appointment today"

He said and I nodded smiling in gratitude. He left the room allowing me to get changed.

Once I was changed, I trotted down the stairs into the kitchen where I made myself a bowl of cereal.

"Morning mummy!"

Jennifer yelled as she skipped into the room closely followed by Mason.

"Morning sweetie are you ready for today?"

I ask her nervously and she nods with a toothy grin.

"Yeah daddy told me I was meeting some new people today"

She told me and I nodded.

"Daddy was right you are meeting some new people today; these new people will ask you some questions and you have to try your best to answer them. If they upset you come and get us and we'll leave OK?" I asked her and she nodded.

"Yes mummy"

She said before slipping into the kitchen to get herself a glass of milk. Mason smiled walking closer to me and pulling me into a hug I really needed.

"You ok Bryn?"

Mason asks and I nod releasing him from my hug.

"I'm just nervous"

I told him and he nodded in understanding.

After breakfast was eaten and Jennifer was dressed accordingly, we left the pack house and started the short walk to the pack house. Our pack is quite lucky as one of our wolfs mate daughter was a therapist before she joined the pack so we have her on staff. I think she likes being the only therapist as there is no competition. I've never meet Mabel as I've been busy being held captive but I heard she's the pack sweetheart. I'm sure an innocent unmated she-wolf won't last for much longer.

We walked into the building a short 5 minute walk later, and the place screamed business. Not seriously like "BUSINESS!!!!" Shouts the building but the decoration was sharp, clean, and sophisticated. While Mason signed in at the desk alerting the therapist that we've arrived, while I sat Jennifer down in the waiting room. She went over to the box of kid’s toys and I sat in one of the chairs, She was cautiously scanning the area, as if she were on edge. Which is a normal feeling as she's had to adapt to so many different environments. I'm glad she seems to be settling in well, I'd hate for her to feel unwelcome in her own home.

Seconds later Mason joined me in the seat beside me. I didn't turn to face him but only watched her nervously and she played carefree as can be. Mason seemed to sense my nerves and he grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers together. His comforting grip made me not feel alone and I turned to smile gratefully at him.

"Thanks Mason"

I whispered and he nodded bringing my palm up to his lips and pecking my knuckles. I smiled and leaned my head on his shoulder and gazed lovingly down at our daughter.

"Did you ever imagine this?"

I whispered and he looked at me confused.

"Imagine what?"

He asks curiously and I smiled.

"That you would have a child with someone who wasn't your mate"

I said in a strained voice, curious to know if he regretted Jennifer.

"Honestly, I never expected it, but I didn't regret it either OK. Jennifer is my sweet little angel"

He whispered sweetly into my ear, and I smiled pecking his cheek.

"Thanks Mason that means a lot"

I tell him honestly and he smiles brightly,

"Well you two are my girls and you mean the world to me"

He said and I smile feeling my heart melt by his words.

"Jennifer?" A voice called out through the waiting room and we all snapped our heads up to see Mabel standing in the door frame to her office and her eyes glazed over as she stared over at us. A quiet growl erupted close by but I might have imagined it. Mabel looked at us with a tear in the corner of her eye, and I panicked trying to figure out what we did to upset her.

She put on a fake smile and wiped away the tear.

"Please come in so we can begin"

She asked with a shaking voice and Mason grabs my wrist and quickly drags us into the room. Something feels off about this?....
