Chapter 16

I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, like I was free for the very first time. All the tension in my sore muscles seemed to vanish into thin air, and I knew it was parts of my werewolf healing coming back to life.

Unfortunately, the scars will never heal, but in a way, I like them. They remind me of how lucky I am to be home and safe within the warm arms of my mate, friends, and daughter.

Shortly after my miracle discovery I told Mason to take me home. He happily obliged shifting into his wolf and I took my position on his back. He charged back towards the pack house and my stomach was fluttering with excitement. Being reunited with your wolf is like seeing an old friend after years.

When we arrived back to the pack house, I leaped off Masons back and I sprinted across the lawn. I didn't even know where I was going, but I knew I just wanted to run. For miles just wander into the forest feeling the grass within my feet.

That this very moment I realized what I needed to do, I need some time with just nature and me. To reconnect with my wolf, I must reconnect with the goddess herself. I ran into the pack house completely sprinted past the boys sitting in the lounge and I bolted upstairs.

I grabbed a duffel bag from my closet and chucked in some clothes, a blanket, and a few snack bars from the kitchen. I grabbed the bag before walking downstairs, unfortunately this time the boys were expecting me to come by and Jake blocked my path.

We spotted the duffel bag and his turned pitch black. "Where are you going?" He growled grabbing my wrist keeping me in place. "Outside" I told him and he narrowed his eyes. "You’re taking a bag outside; do I look dumb?!" He snapped his wolf in control and I sighed dropping my bag to the floor and stepping closer to him. I placed my hand on his cheek and he leaned into my touch.

"Trust me Jake, I'm just want to sleep outside for the night “I told him and he raised his eyebrow. "You want to sleep outside in the cold?" He asks genuinely confused and I chuckled nodding.

"You can join me if you want" I said with a smile grabbing my bag and walking outside. I could smell his presence behind me and I smiled, I knew he couldn't resist a night alone with me in the woods. We walked for 10 minutes until we were in the middle of the forest. I dropped my bag on the ground and sit down beside it with my legs crossed.

He hesitantly sat down on the grass beside me, "Can I ask why you want to sleep out here?" He asks and I turn to face him and smile realizing that his wolf's no longer in control.

"I wanted to feel more connected with the goddess, and plus I miss the sky" I tell him and he chuckled. "Why would you miss the sky, you can see it anytime you go or look outside" He said and I sighed. "Of course, you would say that" I muttered to myself and he frowned. "What's that supposed to mean" He said and I gave him a soft smile. "I find it funny how you take the outdoors for granted, there was no windows in my prison cell" I tell him and his face fell in sympathy. "Don't pity me Jake, it wasn't so bad" I told him honestly and he smiles.

"Do you mind telling me about the place?" He asked and I nodded with a smile. "It wasn't that bad; it was like I was on house arrest. I would be delivered 3 meals a day and it was mainly Mason. He was always nice and we became friends. He actually helped us escape, his original job was to take me into the woods and kill me, but instead he called a Taxi" I said with a chuckle.

"You love him don't you “Jake asked and I turned to look at him, he didn't look angry or jealous almost encouraging. As if I did love him, he would let me go. "He will always be my best friend and the father of my daughter, but I'd never love him like that" I told him and he nodded.

"Because that's my job right, to love you" He asks and I nod with a smile, "Traditionally yes" I said with a smile and he smirked happily to himself laying down on the grass, allowing the wind to softly blow through his hair.

"Can I ask you a question?" He asks and I nod, "Go for it" I reply lying down beside him. "Will you ever be able to forgive me for what happened with Lilly" He asked and I gulped the memories still fresh in my mind. "I already have" I told him and his eyes widened in shock. "You have? “He asked completely startled. "Yeah I knew from the beginning that it was never really your fault, I was just mad" I told him and he brightly smiled, "I'm glad I'm not sure how long I could handle you being mad at me" He said and I smiled, "Me neither the more I deny it the less I have of my wolf" I tell him and he looks shocked again.

"Explain?" He asks confused and I chuckled. "When I forgave you, my wolf started to talk again, but she only said one word but she's coming back" I say and he smiles. "I'm glad you’re getting her back Bryn" He said and I smiled in appreciation at him. "Me too, it felt so lonely without her. So here I am in nature trying to reconnect" I said and he chuckled.

"Is it working?" He asked and I shook my head no. "But your here so maybe that'll help" I said with a smile and he smiled back. "Well I'm glad I could help" He said and I grinned, "So am I" I said with a wink laying back down on the grass with a bright smile on my day...
