Chapter 15

Jake looked at me as if I committed a sin, as if having a child with Mason in particular sickened him to the core. Maybe it was reality smacking him in the face and now the fact that I've had a child with someone else has finally sunk in.

I felt quietly almost but I knew it has because of the mate bond that I was feeling guilty about this. If Jake were a stranger his judgment wouldn't affect me at all. Mason sensed the extremely awkward tension in the air and he got up off the couch and stood by my side.

"Are you OK?" He whispers and I nod, Jake glares at Mason as his eyes turn pitch black and he growls ferociously at him. Jake takes an intimidating step forward and I stand protectively in front of Mason. Jake was trying to pick a fight over dominance, his wolf thinks that Mason's trying to take Jake's mate away from him.

"Jake calm down, Mason's Jennifer’s father and my friend but nothing more OK. He's not trying to take me away, so calm down" I order him and his wolf hesitantly glances between Mason and I before his eyes started changing back to their original colour.

"People normally don't sleep with their friends" Jake said when he was back in control, but he was still angry. "He saved my life Jake so back off" I said and Jake chuckled. "How did him taking advantage of you the slut counts as saving your life?" He spat bitterly like I was a bug on his windscreen. Pain sourced through my body and I was looking at him in disbelief. Even the boys looked at him in shock, I grabbed Mason's hand before storming out of the run.

"Where we going?" Mason asks and I start to strip. "We're going for a run" I said before going behind a tree. Once I got there, I swore realizing I couldn't shift, and I instantly felt grief. I put my shift back on then slid down the base of the tree.

Mason walked over to me and his big wolf eyes looked sympathetically at me and I forced a smile. Wiping away the tears that had started to fall, I stood up and leaned against the tree. He threw his head back and I nodded jumping onto his back. I snuggled into his thick brown fur and patted the fur on his head. He purred playfully before lunging in the air and landed in a sprint. I wish I could run beside him, but this would have to do, I guess.

At least this way the wind still whipped through my hair, and I could hear the animals sprinting away but I couldn't feel the ground within my feet or let out my frustrations while running. It still felt nice of course, it was like the same feeling of riding a motorcycle, only if your bike was fluffy of course. I wasn't sure where Mason was running but I kept silent and enjoyed the ride. It was peaceful out here, and the further you went into the forest the more beautiful it became. Wildflowers sprinkled the paths and were just about everywhere you looked.

Nick's POV

I think we all were shocked when Jake of all people called her a slut. He didn't even listen to the whole story, I'm sure if she said he saved her life he did. But honestly that doesn’t explain why she slept with him.

"You dumb boy" A female voice snapped out and we turned to see Sally the pack doctor walk into the room with a scowl on her face. "What do you want Sally" Jake said in a bored tone and she glared at him. "The girl was telling the truth you know" She said and we all stared at her in shock.

"What do you mean?" Jake asks and she sighs, "Isn't it obvious that boy did save her life, it's the only logical explanation for her being alive" She said and I had no idea what she was talking about. "What do you mean, Bryn was supposed to die!?" Charlie shouted and I nodded with agreement I too was confused.

"Since she reached her 6 month term and nobody marked her, Bryn and Jake were supposed to die. But I'm guessing since you have Alpha blood, her wolf was the only thing that died. Even without a wolf she would have eventually had to go into heat, and without a mate and without a wolf she would have died. Mason, I assume being her only friend at the time, helped her out to save her life but not in a romantic way" She said and my mouth was open in shock. God, I got to give that kid some credit, he saved her freaking life.

"So, Mason's the only reason she's alive?" Jake asks his voice soft and vulnerable as if he felt guilt. "Yes, and you called Bryn a slut for letting Mason save her life" She said and I could see Jake's face fall.

"You can leave now Sally" He said and she bowed her head in respect before leaving. I looked over at Jake and he looked unbelievably guilty but he deserved it. I felt slightly guilty for even thinking that she was a slut, I never accused her out loud but I definitely thought about it.

"Don't worry too much Jake, it was an honest mistake" Chase said trying to comfort him and he nodded his head but he didn't look much happier. "Even so, she's my mate and I just continue to push her away" He says her voice sounding so heart broken.

"Jake she still wants you as your mate" I tell him and his head snap up and stared at him. "How do you know" He asked raising his voice and I smiled. "By the way she told you that Mason and she were nothing more than friends, she was reassuring you that she wasn't replacing you. If she wanted to replace you with him, she wouldn't have bothered to comfort you" I said truthfully and he smiled so brightly.

"So, I might still have a chance with her?" He asks his eyes lighting up like a kid in a candy store. I felt almost proud to put that smile on my Alpha's face. "A better chance than before" I said and he smiled nodding his head almost thanking me and I smiled back.

I really wanted Bryn to forgive her, he really regretted the mistake he made with Lilly and he's tried his best to make up for it. I still to this day honestly believe Lilly's punishment for lying to the pack and Alpha was to soft. But it's not liked any punishment we gave her would have stopped her from doing what she did. I believe she purposely attacked those guards so they'd have to kill her in self-defence and I actually pitied her. She's a girl whose mate died and the man she loved rejected her, and she just wanted to die to be reunited with her true mate....
