CHAPTER 35
"I need some time." He trails off. Okay, that voice is not very encouraging.
"Sure. Take your time. And let me know this evening." I put my fork down on the plate, as I wipe my mouth with a napkin.
People would die in literal excitement if they hear that I wanna marry them, and he just.. seems to indecisive about it.
"Okay. I'll come to your office room to let you know." He replies.
"I have an interview. So, come somewhere around 4pm and I'll be there." I speak, as I feel my heart sinking. What if he says “no”?
"I get it. You'll know the answer by 4." He rises up from the plush chair, and we walk towards the elevator.
Today's definitely gonna be a long day. I tell myself to calm the fuck down, but all in vain. I can't imagine what is gonna happen if he says “no”!!! I'll literally dehydrate, maybe.
We get out of the elevator, as we stride inside the garage. Luke has the black Rolls Royce car out for me today.
"Good morning, sir." He greets me with a smile. Oh, the professional guy always.
"Good morning, Luke. Let's head towards my office." I beam at him.
He nods, as he opens the door and Lucas gets inside, with me after him. Once we're seated, Luke starts driving the car.
I'm looking out of the glass window.
What follows is pitch black uncertainty. Did I offer him the marriage proposal too quick? Or, does he not wanna spend his life with me? What is it? Whatever it is, it's gnawing at me. I wanna know, for worse or for better. I hate being in suspense, if he has to reject me, he should do it outright, rather than keeping me hanging for a long while.
I sigh. Maybe, I've scared the guy away. My subconscious is hissing at me. When have I last been that indecisive? Fuck. I need to get my shit together. And, that too, I have this miserable interview today.
"Sir, we're here." Luke's voice distracts me, and I open the door as I get out of the car. Lucas follows closely behind.
I get inside the office as many people stand up and greet me. I nod at them, and offer them a bleak smile. I'm such a mess today, Jesus. Some God direct my judgement.
After reaching my office, after another elevator ride, I make myself comfortable my flopping down on my huge leather chair as I lean against it. Wow, life is really uncertain, huh? 259 years on this earth, and I'm still behaving like a teeanger asking his crush out.
I should get a fucking grip.
I decide to call Natalie, and she picks up in two rings.
"Good morning, Natalie." My voice is barely audible.
"Good morning, Mr. Godfrey. What can I do for you?" She speaks up, professional and active as usual.
"Ask someone to bring me a glass of whiskey or brandy." I reply coldly.
There is silence in the other end of the line. She must be shocked, I never asked for any alcoholic beverage during work.
"Right away, Mr. Godfrey." She says, quickly regaining her calm demeanor.
I hang up. Oh god, I should get a fucking grip.
I open my laptop, as I go through some emails.
Someone knocks on my door.
"Come in." I growl, as I tap my pencil on the furnished hardwood desk.
Natalie scurries in, and keeps a glass of brandy on my table.
"Something else, Mr. Godfrey?" She asks.
I shake my head, "Thank you."
"Jessica Fox is here. Would you like to start the meeting now?" She proceeds to say.
Oh, that miserable meeting. I gulp down all the brandy at once, as I nod at her. She leaves and closes the door behind her. I fix my suit, and prepare to keep my temper down on being asked inane questions.
The meeting ends after some time, and Jessica Fox leaves my office. I have a sigh of relief.
What a meeting! Looking for the smallest piece of gossip, without wanting to know any useful things about my company or fund.
Suddenly, there's another knock on the door. Who the fuck is it now? Is it her again?
"Come in." I snap, as Lucas enters discreetly.
Oh, it's him. The man I love. And, it's 4:12 already. And he has an answer.
He sits on the chair, facing me as he speaks.
"I have an answer." He smoothly speaks.
Holy fuck, I'm gonna have a cardiac arrest. I gulp down the lump formed in my throat and indicate him to speak.
"Maybe.... I need to.... move a few things of mine... in your dark fort." He mumbles.
Wait... is this a positive reply?
"Does that mean “yes”?" I stutter.
"Yes. Yes. Yes." He beams at me, as I vamp speed towards him and scoop him in my arms. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HE SAID “YES”. Oh, what am I gonna do with him?
