Parting ways.

Chapter 82:

Kaya's pov.

Tessa successfully opened the lock and I hurried out of the cell, breathing heavily as the fear of being caught gripped me. I had to ask her how she got in the first place, considering the men that were on guard outside.

She admitted that they all went out to drink and celebrate for Axel's victory. I was shocked to hear this. If Axel has won, does that mean that the whole pack has become enslaved by him? This is bad, it means only the worst for Elior and I. We will have to find a new place to call home.

Times like this make me miss Feyi. His fatherly and friendly guidance is needed most now. I'm sure he would have known what to do if he was here.

Suddenly, I felt hate in my heart towards Alpha Silas, he snatched Feyi away from me. Saying that Feyi was a nice person would be an understatement, he was a saint. I'm sure the moon goddess is punishing Alpha Silas for snatching such an amazing soul.

“Are you sure there's no one at the door?” I asked as Tessa and I were getting ready to open the door. I couldn't wait to get out of this gory dungeon. Flesh and bones were scattered everywhere, testimony to how ruthless Axel was.

“No one is outside. They have all gone to drink. Which is why our movement must be swift.” She replied and pushed the door open.

A vast area of land was revealed, a cool breeze hitting my skin, drying up the tears on my face. There were nothing but two buildings, including the dungeon on this large area of land. We could see as far as the horizon, but no other building or light could be sighted. It made me wonder how far away we were from the pack.

“Where is Elior? You said you saw where they took him.” I questioned immediately.

“Elior was taken to the river banks, I heard them talking about leaving him there to either die or be picked up by a stranger.” She answered and my eyes widened as I staggered back in shock.

Tears started to stream down my cheeks again and this time, I could not control it. My baby.. is out in the cold, alone and hungry! Is he even still alive? Has a wild animal or even rogues gotten to him? What if I never set eyes on him again!?

“No..!” My voice came out shaky.

“No Tessa.. this can't be happening!”

“Pull yourself together and let's go. The river bank is quite far from here and the longer we stand here, the more danger we're exposing the poor baby to.” Tessa said sternly, grabbing my wrist.

She pulled me along as we ran towards the horizon, making sure that the coast was clear first. Our journey was longer than I expected, it took about an hour for us to finally find some trees which led into the forest.

We were tired and worn out, needing some rest. But the motivation to save Elior kept us going, I was determined to find my son and nothing was going to stop me. I just hope he is fine.

“How much farther is the river bank?” I asked as we galloped through the thick layers of shrubs and stalks.

“We're almost there, hang on.” Tessa had started to breathe heavily again. Her asthma was kicking in again, and I feared it would be worse than the last time.

“Tessa.” I called and stopped running. She stopped and turned to look at me, a puzzled expression on her sweaty face.

“What? Why did you stop? The river bank isn't too far from here now.” She pointed out, her chest heaving up and down. I felt bad, she was risking her life for me. I don't know why everyone around me seems to suffer, maybe I am cursed or something.

“You are not well Tessa. I can't let you continue in this state. If anything happens to you, I will not forgive myself.” I sighed and she caressed my cheek lovingly.

“Nothing will happen to me, let us continue, Elior is probably…”

“No Tessa. This is my fight. You've done a whole lot by getting me out of that dungeon, now I will finish on my own, but I will not compromise your life.” I said, taking her hand off my cheek and kissing it.

Life always has a way of bringing saints to help me, and every time, they suffer a terrible fate because of me. I will not let that be the case this time around.

“But I..”

“Listen to me Tessa. You have to leave now, you have to save yourself. Go to another pack, get proper health care and take care of yourself. If we're destined to meet again, then we will.”

A tear fell from her eye, and she sniffed back the rest, her lips quivering.

“Oh Kaya! I really do wish you'd let me come with you!” She threw her arms around me, pulling me into a tight hug. I hugged her back, fighting the urge to cry again.

“You've done enough, and I'll never forget you for as long as I live, that's a promise.” I said, breaking the hug.

“Take care of yourself and Elior, may no evil befall you both.” She said, backing away and wiping her tears.

“The moon goddess will be with us all.” I nodded and she took a long glance at me before prancing off in another direction. I bit my lip as I watched her, until she was out of sight.

I turned and continued my journey to the river bank alone.

I thought that my journey would never come to an end, but my spirit was lifted when I heard the sound of flowing water. A smile crept up on my face for the first time in a long time as I took to my heels, racing towards the direction of the water.

I stumbled over tree stumps so many times, but I didn't let that stop me. I finally arrived at the river bank, but there was no sign of life anywhere.

“Elior? Elior!!” I called out, as if he would answer me.

My eyes hurt from the stinging tears, but I did not stop searching. I followed the river, searching and calling out his name but I was met by silence.

“Oh moon goddess! Please don't do this to me!” I cried out in pain, my heart squeezing in anguish.

Suddenly, I heard a ruffle in the bushes, followed by Elior's loud cry. I gasped, noticing that whoever it was had started running.

“Elior!” I leaped into the thick bushes, running after the hooded figure.
