A deal with the Alpha.
Chapter 70:
Kaya's pov.
“Please Alpha, please don't harm my child, I'm begging you!” I cried out, holding his feet. Instead of having mercy on me, he stepped on my hands and walked out. I could not even concentrate on the pain I was feeling at that moment, a greater pain awaits me if I don't stop him from doing what he has set his mind to do.
I went after him, crying and thinking about how my baby was going to live without me. I kept calling out to him but he didn't stop, he took heavy steps towards the exit, and I knew he was heading straight for the infirmary.
As I chased him, most of the workers poked their heads out to watch the scene, I became the center of attention and it was suffocating. But at that moment, I did not care about the shame I was forced to face, I just wanted to do everything possible to save my child.
I jumped in front of Alpha Silas, stopping him in his tracks. I quickly went on my knees, my lips quivering as I pressed my hands together in front of me, tears pouring down my cheeks.
“I don't know what you want to do, but please don't separate my child from me. I'll take any other punishment, I'll do whatever you want me to do but please..” I sniffed, shaking my head vehemently. “Please don't take my child away from me.”
He smirked an evil smirk, lowering his body a little bit. His index finger raised to touch my chin, raising my face to meet his gaze. I was shaking from fear, tears blurring my vision and hiccuping in tears.
“Really? Will you do anything I ask?” His cunning voice came.
I knew very well that I was about to walk into a trap, but I didn't care. I might regret this later but right now, I can't think of anything else but to save my baby from being separated from me.
“Y..yes Alpha, I will do anything.” I answered helplessly, sniffing back my tears.
“I will see you in my quarters tonight. If you disappoint, I will make sure you never set your eyes and that baby of yours ever again.”
“I promise, I won't disappoint you.”
Without another word, he walked out, going back in the direction that he came from. His guards followed him and everyone else went about their business, leaving me on my knees, crying my eyes out.
I pulled myself together and rushed to the infirmary, it was already so late and I hadn't fed Elior. I met one of the midwives cuddling him when I got there, I thanked her immensely, taking Elior from her.
“Thank you for looking after him.” I sniffed.
“It's fine, luckily, there was baby milk available. If not, the poor baby would have starved.” She sighed deeply, her eyes carrying a lingering sadness. I was moved to ask her what the problem was.
“What troubles you?”
“Nothing dear, you shouldn't worry about things like this. Right now, you should go and feed that boy well.” She feigned a smile. I could see right through her. I wanted answers, I needed to know why there is such a cold aura surrounding this place.
“I will do that. But I'm curious, what happened to this pack? This isn't the way Feyi described it to me.” I voiced out and she released a silent gasp, her eyes suddenly glistening with excitement.
“Feyi? Where is he!? I haven't seen him in ages!”
I started to breastfeed Elior there and then, deciding that I wanted to continue talking to the midwife. She is the first person that I have met and instantly liked since I got here.
“He brought me here. But he's… dead.” I replied.
The glint in her eyes disappeared as quickly as it showed up, her lips turning downwards in sadness. I bit my lip, trying not to cry.
“What?” She expressed shock, her plump cheeks turning red.
“He died yesterday, Alpha Silas killed him. Feyi used to speak so highly of his good friend, about how great Alpha Silas was and how he led his people justly and with fairness! I was actually excited to come here, but what happened? He was murdered in cold blood and no one said anything about it.” A single tear rolled down my cheek but I quickly wiped it away.
I was told that I shouldn't cry when I breastfeed my baby, I don't care whether it's a myth but I'm not going to risk my baby's health.
“I want to know what's going on here. Why is everyone so laid back concerning Feyi's death? Why isn't anyone happy here? I haven't seen a smile on anyone's face since I got here.” The more I spoke, the angrier I got and it made the midwife upset too.
She couldn't even look at me directly, it was obvious that she was hiding something.
“Talk to me, please..”
“What do you want me to say to you? You should take everything as you have seen it and don't get adventurous because it'll be the end of you.” Her tone made my stomach churn, as if a danger was looming.
“What is going on?” I asked in a whisper.
“You should leave now, please go before you get me into trouble. You can always drop your baby here during your working hours and I'll take care of him. Nothing more, nothing less.” She rushed her words and practically pushed me out of the infirmary. She shut the door in my face, startling me.
With a desperate sigh, I turned around and started heading to my quarters, clutching Elior tightly. Although it was dark and the moon was out, lots of people were still walking around, going about their businesses.
I got to my quarters and finished up with feeding Elior. As soon as he fell asleep, I put him down in the cot that Marta generously had delivered to me and rocked him until I was sure he was in a deep sleep. I shut the windows tightly, making sure there was no way any cold would get into the room, of course, Elior was properly clothed.
It's sad that I have to leave him in this room all by himself tonight, but I have made a deal and I must keep my side of it. I wonder what Alpha Silas wants from me, but I hope it is not what I am thinking.
