Chapter 61

Alpha Kelvin’s POV

Thinking about it, I really must be out of my mind but I loved this feeling of madness. It was empowering and exciting. Addictive too.

It had felt good giving her that damn promotion and telling her that I was going to order a reinvestigation of her case.

I knew I was going to have to face the guilt and pain that was surely going to come from it but I didn't care.

“You know this doesn't address the main issue, right?” my wolf said. “You do not plan to keep her as your mistress, right? I'm personally going to torment you if you do that.”

My lips curled into a wry smile. “Tormenting me means tormenting yourself.”

“It's not funny,” he said.

“And don't you think I know that,” I snapped. Sophie was my childhood friend, not just my Luna. I loved her. It would really hurt her if I decided to put her aside and claim Claire.

The only other option was rejecting Claire so that I could have a fulfilling relationship with Sophie, but I couldn't bring myself to do that either.

I lay on my bed in silence for a while after Claire escaped from my bedroom. I shouldn't have let go of her arm in my bid to get to the telephone receiver.

After I got tired of staring at the ceiling, I decided that things weren't going to solve themselves if I remained in my bedroom.

My Beta had called me earlier that he was finding it increasingly difficult to keep Sophie locked up in her chambers.

I had found it funny that locking her up was the only thing he had thought of doing to keep the peace of the castle.

“At least, one of us finds this funny. Just get your ass down here before she breaks the door down and goes after your beloved Claire,” he had said and then hung up before I could give him a response.

Instead of heading straight to Sophie’s room after I had taken my bath and asked a servant to show Claire to her new room, I made my way to the servants’ quarters instead to the amazement of the servant I had asked to go fetch Claire.

Without knocking, I let myself into the room she shared with Ms.Lora and nearly woke her up immediately out of spite.

How could she be sleeping so soundly when we had a major crisis on our hands?

Yes, a Sophie problem was a major crisis to me. If she found out that Claire and I were mates, I wondered how badly she was going to react.

I shivered at the thought and returned my attention to Claire.

Wasn't she even scared that Sophie could take advantage of her vulnerability and attack her?

Sighing, I thought of the best way to wake her up. Pulling her abruptly out of her slumber was only going to cause her a headache.

The next minute, I got carried away by her ethereal features and could do nothing but allow my eyes to soak in her beauty.

Her bonnet had slipped off her long blonde tresses which had also unravelled out of the tight bun she had put them in earlier.

My fingers itched to run through the silken strands but that was going to wake her up and I realized I didn't want her to wake up just yet.

She looked so at peace in her sleep and I felt that waking her up was going to be the most cruel thing.

My gaze moved over her cute button nose and her rosy cheeks to linger on her full sensuous lips.

A kiss wouldn't hurt at that moment.

Just as I was seriously considering doing it, her eyelids slowly fluttered open and a surprised gasp fell from her lips when she noticed me.

She sat up at the speed of light. Her eyes were both confused and a little scared.

I proceeded to tease her about sleeping while she was supposed to be on duty and she asked how long I had been standing there.

Still feeling a little irritated that she had woken up before I got the chance to tease her, I lied that she snored terribly and felt satisfied by the look of annoyance on her features.

After asking the servant who was still standing outside to come in, I announced that she would be taken to a new room and left to go attend to Sophie.

All the time that I had been in Claire’s room, my phone had been buzzing incessantly in my pocket and I knew it had to be Charles.

I just hoped that the Luna hadn't managed to leave her chambers. I didn't want her anywhere near Claire in the meantime.

“At last,” the Beta said in an exasperated tone when I reached Sophie’s door.

My lips quirked in amusement. “Don’t tell me you’ve been standing in front of this door all this while. I must say that I admire your passion for this job.”

He snorted. “When I decided to be your Beta, I didn't know that I was signing up for confining an angry Luna to her room. It wasn't part of the job description.”

I chuckled. “I'm so sorry. Let's hope that you don't have to do it again.”

Charles glowered at me and at that moment, we heard the Luna’s shrill voice.

“I know you are out there, Kelvin. I can hear you. Now get me out of here before I do something bastardly.”

The Beta gave a slightly alarmed look. “You have to go in and please do not let her out until you've gotten rid of that terrible anger of hers.”

“Are you afraid she’s going to come after you?” I queried with a mischievous smile. “I had no idea that you were such a scaredy cat.”

He gave me a dirty look. “If you were in my shoes you would understand my fear. She has been threatening to kill me for about an hour. You have no idea how scary and graphic those threats were. She is quite gifted when it comes to describing different ways to kill a person.”

“Now, you are being dramatic,” I said.

“Whatever,” he murmured. “I'm out of here.”

With that, he hurried out of the hallway.

After taking a deep breath, I unlocked the door and let myself in.

I quickly locked the door again and pocketed the key once I was inside.

That was one of the best decisions I had made because the next second, she threw herself at me violently and I sustained a few bruises from her long nails before I managed to subdue her.

“Why did you allow that son-of-a-bitch to lock me in here?” she yelled. “I am a Luna and I deserve to be treated with respect.”

“Sophie, please I need you to calm down,” I said.

That seemed to enrage her even more and if I hadn't been holding her hands tightly, she would have certainly clawed my eyes out.

She was as wild as a mad woman and I quickly racked my brain for how to get her to calm down.

I did the only thing that came to my mind. While she was still screaming obscenities, I covered her lips with mine and hoped for the best.
