Chapter 101 Berlo, The Devil {Rosie}
Chapter 101 Berlo, The Devil {Rosie}
Death would have sufficed.
I woke up, hoping the kidnap and Tiger’s presence was all a nightmare and my flight to Africa was going to land soon.
But it was all wishful thinking.
The ache in my jaw and the split on my lip told me how real my situation was. My heart began racing once again, my body became alert as I scanned my surroundings. I was in the back of a moving bus. The driver had wire connected to his ear and so did the man sitting next to him.
“La principessa si è svegliata.”(The princess has woken up.)
I scrambled in my seat, pushing myself deeper into the chair like it could swallow me up.
My brain completely wiped the memory of seeing Berlo before I passed out. But he was here, sitting right next to me. Sharply dressed in his black and white suit and his famous dark shades perched over the bridge of his nose.
Good. Because his eyes weren’t normal in the slightest. He was the devil in flesh. Even before I knew him for who he truly was, I never found him attractive or appealing.
He folded rhe newspaper he was reading neatly and placed it on the empty seat next to him.
I swallowed fearfully. Memories of my abuse that had been buried by happy moments with Kieran began to resurface.
Gradually, my body produced heat from within, streaking my clothes until I was dripping of it.
I couldn’t tell if he was looking at me with those glasses on but he was facing me. His face displayed no expression.
He just sat there, legs crossed and quietly watching me while my mind destroyed me from within.
He was going to kill me. I could read his silence, the promise of his unspoken punishments. They would be nowhere similar to the ones Kieran administered.
His punishment would make me beg for death.
Suddenly, he moved. And I stopped breathing. The movement was so quick, so fast, I didn’t see him coming until his face was inches away from mine. I looked down at my naked toes immediately.
The smell of cigar was thick and pressed against his breath. The right side of his lip lifted.
“How are you, Rosie?” He asked casually like he was speaking to an old time friend.
I could not speak. My throat felt tight, my tongue too heavy. Tears clouded my sight.
He slowly tilted his head to the side, trying to catch my eyes but I avoided them.
“Five years, Rosie.” He sighed. “You made me mourn your loss when you weren’t even dead. You sent your mama to an early grave.”
I lifted my teary eyes without thinking. I heard wrong didn’t I?
“M-m-mama?” My chest tightened. My voice was unrecognizable to my own ears. I shook my head slowly. Not mama, no.
His smile was cruel. “Yes. Dearest. Your fake car accident gave her heart a stroke. She died before she could get to the hospital.
Hot tears dropped down my face one after the other. “N-no, no, no.”
He gripped my chin tight and forced my face to stay still. “There is no use for stupid tears now, Rosie. You cared for no one asides yourself. Behind that infectious beauty of yours is a rotten and spoiled woman that needs to be whipped into discipline.”
My lips trembled. The feeling of guilt broke my heart into a million pieces. All those years, I thought my absence would finally bring her peace, I thought she wouldn’t have to be reminded of her disappointment.
But to find out that she died out of shock, shock that i caused her.
Berlo’s fingers dug into my skin, pressing my jaw so hard, I winced in pain. “The only reason you’re still breathing is because for once in your miserable life, you’ve proven yourself useful.” He sneered.
“P-please…” I choked out.
He snickered. “You don’t get to beg now Rosie. Do you know the humiliation you brought to me? I don’t know how you did it but there is one thing I know, you’re not that smart to execute that brilliant plan. Your car exploded into pieces, I believed your body had disintegrated into ashes.” He continued.
I was sobbing now. Out of grief and fear.
He pulled my face closer, laughing as his tongue slithered out and lapped the salty tears that stained my cheeks. My eyes shut tight, I froze.
And when he released my chin abruptly. I slumped back against the seat, gasping like I had been underwater for so long.
He leaned back into his seat, adjusting his cufflinks calmly. “You vanished without permission. You changed your name. Disguise your face, change your life and you dared to love another man.”
My stomach dropped. At least he doesn’t know about the pregnancy. Heavens knows what would happen if he found out I was carrying another man’s child.
“Tell me, Rosie.” He took off his glasses. It took all my willpower not to look away from his eyes. His irises were pitch black, they were consuming. I always believed if I looked into his eyes for too long, I would lose my soul.
“Why did you do it?” He wasn’t smiling, he wasn’t frowning either. There were no emotions or expressions he could produce. The ones he managed to express were mimicked and mirrored.
Berlo was a deranged psychopath that needed to be put in the psych ward but because men in our world needed to be unhinged and crazy enough to perform, no one really saw him as the devil he was.
“You know I hate waiting for you to answer a simple question. How did Kieran manage to withstand such a slow witted human like you?” Every word was laced with disgust.
I blinked rapidly, steadying my heart before answering. “P-plea—”
“Answe my damn question!”
“I-i just wanted…” I gulped. “I just wanted freedom.” My voice was barely audible. The more I stared into his eyes, the more I wished I could pluck out my own eyes.
He nodded twice. “Freedom. Hmmm.”
The bus hit a small bump and I jolted. My wrists burned, only then did I realize they were zip tied beneath my coat.
“You belong to the Eleganzo family, Rosie,” Berli said. “You belong to I lupi Neri and most importantly, you belong to me.”
I drew in a shaky breath.
“Of all men, Rosie. You choose to fuck an enemy of your father. An enemy of your family.” He laughed bitterly. “But not to worry, you will witness his dethronement and then his death.”
“Please, He didn’t know.” I sobbed, crying afresh. “I didn’t know who he was, he saved my life. Please Berlo, I beg of you.” It was difficult but I managed to fold my knees under my thighs so I could beg him.
He placed a finger to his lips, and instinctively— just as he had trained me in the past. I obeyed and swallowed my tears.
“Your savior, Kieran, believes you betrayed him. With a little help from me, he knows you as a spy and now you will have to finish your work.”
Oh, no.
