Chapter 81 MESSY SITUATION
Charlotte nods her head before suddenly stopping in front of a prom poster. She looks at it closely with her arms crossing over each other in thought.
I watch her, wondering why she was staring at the poster. It wasn't too special looking, kinda plain.
There wasn't exactly much to look at.
" Have you gotten your prom dress yet?" Charlotte asks, still staring down the poster.
" Um.not yet." I say, still trying to figure out what she was staring at the poster for. I flinch when she suddenly snaps her head towards me, squealing.
"Great, we can go prom dress shopping together!" She says excitedly. A smile pops up on my face at her excitement and I quickly nod my head, agreeing to shopping together.
" Get to class before I send both of you to detention!" An older man yells down the hall. I recognize the voice, remembering how he was the one who gave me my first detention and look up to Charlotte nervously.
" Here's my number, I'll see you after school Elara!" Charlotte quickly says, writing her number down on my arm with a pen she pulls out from her pocket.
I look down at the writing before looking back up to see her waving at me while walking down a different hallway from mine.
When I get to class I instantly notice Calvin not in his seat. I thought I was at least a little bit early since he hadn't been here yet, until I realized he just didn't come to class, and I was late.
"Miss Dawn, you were doing so well with attendance too." Mr. Silas sighs as he marks my name on a clipboard.
Great.
" Hey, Elara!" I hear Wayne suddenly yell from the other side of the parking lot.
School was out, and Charlotte and I were walking towards her car until Wayne spotted us from where he usually gets picked up by his driver, like most of the other students.
I smile at Wayne before looking towards Charlotte as he walks up to us. She looked horrified for some
reason.
Wayne walks up to me, his eyes brightening until they trail over to Charlotte who was nervously standing next to me.
I look between them in confusion, deciding to just ignore the tension.
Wayne quickly avoids Charlottes gaze, turning back towards me while clearing his throat.
They were probably awkward because of the whole arranged marriage deal, maybe.
Wayne’s and Charlotte.
"I knew you would, it's from me after all."
He says smugly, shrugging his shoulders.
" When did you two get closer?" Wayne asks, looking between us both, his eyes lingering on Charlotte.
" We're busy right now, maybe she can tell you later." Charlotte laughs, grabbing my arm as she walks us back towards her car in a rush.
I look back at Wayne who held a confused look on his face, deciding to wave bye to him. He notices and smiles at me, waving back.
I wonder what happened between them to make it so awkward...
"Mrs. Carmen allowed me to take work off."
" Why'd you and Wayne seem so tense earlier?" I ask curiously, watching as Charlotte's expression switches up while looking through the racks of dresses.
" Did we? I didn't even notice." She nervously laughs, causing me to only become more suspicious.
" Anyways, I think you'd look good in a pink dress, Wayne would like it too, hopefully." She continues, avoiding my question completely as she holds out a light pink dress in front of me.
"Hm, I think you'd look good in pink too." I say, holding a dress in a different shade of pink up to her with a smile.
We both look towards each other at the same time, like the same thought went through our heads.
"Are you thinking the same thing I'm thinking."
Charlotte says, and I nod my head with a smile.
We both give each other the dresses before rushing into the dressing rooms.
After we buy the pink dresses Charlotte invites me over to her house to hang out. I don't mind it since I didn't have work anyways, and didn't want to be at the house right now.
My ringer goes off while we're in Charlotte's room, and I try ignoring it until the person calls again.
I sigh as I turn my phone around, only to see Calvin’s name popping up.
" Who keeps calling you?" Charlotte asks as she takes a big bite out of a brownie.
Her grandma made them for us, and brought an entire tray up for us to eat.
I look towards Charlotte who was laid down next to me, scrolling through Pinterest to show me outfits she wanted to recreate.
"No one." I sigh, trying to forget about it, but he calls again.
Why was he calling me?
This time Charlotte sees the name and turns to me with wide eyes.
" You have Calvin Conner's number?" She asks, looking down at my phone again to check.
" He put it in there not me." I mumble, looking down at the phone. I wanted to answer the call, but was too scared about what he'd say.
"I knew the situation was messy." Charlotte says, stuffing the rest of the brownie into her mouth.
" Messy?"
" Uh yeah, you have Calvin and Wayne Conner gushing over you. It's even more messy since they hate each other."
Charlotte says, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
I watch her with furrowed eyebrows. "
Calvin doesn't like me, he's not like that." I say. Charlotte nearly chokes on her brownie as she tries holding in a laugh.
" Oh my gosh, are you okay?" I say, quickly patting her back.
" Are you okay? Come on Elara, it's obvious he likes you." Charlotte says after regaining her breath.
I sigh, lying back into her bed.
I knew she was probably right, but I couldn't get the memories of him calling me a whore out of my head. You don't say that to someone you like, right?
Still, it seems like he's always there for me, In everything. And somehow, I was always craving to be in his presence.
Charlotte looks at me before pursing her lips and laying next to me. " How about we have fun, without you having to worry about those two?" She offers, smiling at me.
" What kind of fun?" I say, but Charlotte only gives me a mischievous look.
"Let's go to a party."
