Chapter 243 The father wrath

Chapter 243 The father wrath
The Father's Wrath

Damon's POV

I froze.

watching Millen soar through the air toward our son, and I had never felt more powerless in my entire life.

My body wouldn't respond. My legs wouldn't move. The injuries from my fight with Millen had drained everything I had just to stay conscious. I couldn't even raise my arms to shield the baby. Could only watch as death descended toward the tiny life I'd sworn to protect.

Then Millen stopped.

Mid-air. Impossibly. As if she had hit an invisible wall.

It was Milo.

But something had changed.

He shone like a dying star about to explode. Or maybe he was. The purple light was so intense it hurt to look at it directly. His wolf form seemed to shimmer, reality itself bending around him as power poured through his body. But something was wrong... I could see it even through my pain-blurred vision… he was burning up.

Burning his essence. His life force. The very core of what held his human self and wolf together.

"You're right," Milo's voice echoed through the throne room, it distorted by power and the fury thst was rolling off him in waves. "You are stronger than I. Even more experienced in battle."

He slammed Millen into the ground with enough force that left deep craters on the stone ground

"But we fight for two different things."

He looked at me then, and I flinched. His eyes blazed with purple fire, but there was something else in them. Something terrible and beautiful at thr same time that would terrify even the strongest men.”

"I am fighting for my son. And I can do anything for him."

His gaze held mine for one more heartbeat.

"Even kill."

I tried to reach him through our bond, desperate to pull him back from whatever edge he was teetering on. But i couldn’t reach the bond... As if Milo had burned so hot that even the connection between us had been scorched.

He had gone beserk.

Terror shot through me like a bullet "Milo, stop! You are going to…"

But he had already turned back to Millen.

What followed suit wasn't a fight. It was an execution.

Milo moved like liquid lightning, faster than anything I'd ever seen. One time he was far from millen. The next his jaws was closing down on Millen's fore arm, and tore. A scream that was not a scream filled the air. But milo was not done, his extra sharp teeths that was now dripping with saliva found her hind legs, the sickening sound of bones shattering echoed, followed by her painful howls.

I watched with my mouth wide open at the brutal scene that was milo and millen fight, as it unfolds before me.

Millen tried to fight back… tried to use her strength, her enhancements, her decades of combat experience. But Milo was beyond all of that now. He was a force of nature and pure instincts wearing a wolf's skin, and nothing could stand against him.

Blood painted the throne room floor. Millen's roars of defiance became whimpers of pain, then desperate gasps for air and futile resistance.

The enhanced soldiers watched in horrified awe. Daphne had one time collected my son from me amidst the chaotic brutal exchange. turning his face away from the carnage. I could only stare, unable to look away from what my mate had become.

Finally, Millen's body flew out from Milo's outpour, knocking over a few pillars before collapsing on the ground. Her white fur was matted with blood, her enhanced body broken in a dozen places. She lay gasping on the cracked stone, barely conscious.

Milo stood over her, still blazing with that terrible purple light. Still burning. I could see it now…see the way his form was starting to become translucent at the edges, like smoke caught in the wind.

He was dying. Killing himself with this much power, but he didn't seem to notice. All uis attention was focused on the enemy.

"Milo, please…" I tried again, voice breaking.

“You…”

Millen coughed blood, her figure was shimmering between shifts. But something was wrong, her chest was faintly glowing… "If... if I am going down... then everybody... is going down... with me..."

Horror flooded through me as I recognized what she was doing. The enhanced soldiers recognized it too, scrambling backward, trying to reach the exits.

She was combusting her energy. Forcing every enhancement, every modification, every bit of power she had engineered into her body to overload simultaneously. The resulting explosion would level the entire temple, and kill everyone inside.

A living bomb!

Her body began to glow with sickly green light, pulsing faster and brighter. The air itself seemed to vibrate with the building energy.

"Milo, RUN!" I screamed, clutching our son tighter. "Everyone, GET OUT!"

But Milo didn't run.

He looked at me one last time. At the baby. His eyes… still blazing with purple fire… softened for just a moment. And in that moment, I saw everything he wanted to say. Everything he had never got the chance to.

I love you. I love him. Take care of our son. Live.

Then his jaws clamped onto Millen's scruff.

"MILO, NOO!!!"

He lifted her glowing body like a ragdoll and ran. Not toward us. Not toward the exits. Toward the massive crater their earlier battle had carved into the throne room floor…a jagged wound in the earth that dropped into darkness.

Milo didn't hesitate at all. He leaped into the void, dragging Millen with him, her body blazing brighter and brighter as the overload reached its peak.

The bond between us suddenly flared to life, like someone had suddenly opened a o longer muted like before. I felt everything he felt… the determination, the fear, the overwhelming love that drove every drop of blood he burned.

And beneath it all, a message. Clear as words spoken aloud.

Protect our son. Love him enough for both of us. Tell him his father died so he could live.

They disappeared into the crater's depths.

For one frozen heartbeat, everything was silent.

Then the explosion erupted from below.

The blast wave shot upward like a geyser of white-green fire, a column of destruction that punched through what remained of the throne room's ceiling and kept climbing into the night sky. The ground bucked beneath us. The stone cracked and shattered. The entire temple groaned as its foundations shifted.

I threw myself over our son, Daphne doing the same, as debris rained down around us. The bond between Milo and me stretched, thinned, became gossamer-fine.

Then it snapped.

The sensation was like having my heart torn from my chest. Like losing half my soul. I gasped, unable to breathe, unable to think past the sudden, awful absence where Milo's presence had been a few minutes ago.

The explosion's roar faded, replaced by an awful, terrible silence.

I stared at the space where the throne room had been. Where my mate had been. Nothing remained but rubble and smoke and the acrid smell of burned stone and a deep pit that seemed to stretch to eternity.

Our son began to cry, as if he too understood what had just happened. Understood that the bond connecting him to his father had gone silent.

"Nooo," I whispered, my knees crashing to the ground, "No, please, not like this. Not…”

A hand touched my shoulder. Selene. her face streaked with tears and ash.

"We need to go," she said softly, voice breaking. "The temple is collapsing. We need to…"

"I can't leave him," I choked out. "I can't just…"

"Damon." She gripped my shoulders hard, forcing me to meet her eyes. "If we don't move now, his sacrifice will be for nothing."

She was right. gods, I knew she was right. But knowing didn't make it any easier to move. Didn't make the absence any less devastating.

Selene pulled me to my feet, supporting most of my weight as we stumbled out of the temple that finally gave way, in a loud crashing sound.
