Chapter 242: Going berserk

going berserk

Millen lunged first, massive jaws snapping toward my throat.

In my previous form… the red monster driven by rage and instinct… I would have met her head-on. Matched strength with strength, fury with fury, until one of us lay broken and bleeding.

But this was different. Now was different.

I moved.

Not away from her attack, but around it… flowing like water, fast like light. Her jaws closed on empty air where I had been a fraction of a second before. Before she could recover, I was already behind her, teeth finding the junction where her hind leg met her body.

But I didn't bite to kill. Just a teaching bite. One that said: I am faster than you. I can reach you whenever I want.

Millen snarled, spinning with impressive speed for her size, but I was already gone from my position before her strike could reach me.

The pattern continued, her attacking while I continued to be out of reach. Circling. Watching. Learning her patterns the way she'd learned mine.

This wasn't the brutality of Damon's fight with her. That had been alpha against alpha, raw power against enhanced strength, a grinding battle of attrition that Damon had ultimately lost through sheer exhaustion. And I didn't plan to make the same mistake again.

This was something else entirely.

This was technique versus power. Speed versus strength. A technique I had learnt from the master herself. If selene was here, i net she would be shocked to the point of death.

Millen charged, using her superior mass like a battering ram. The stone floor cracked under her paws, each stride covering twice the distance mine could. She was trying to corner me, force me into close quarters where her size advantage would be insurmountable.

I let her think she was succeeding.

At the last moment, as her jaws opened wide to clamp onto my spine, I dropped low… belly nearly touching the ground… and rolled beneath her. My claws raked across her exposed underbelly as I passed, drawing first blood.

The freed enhanced soldiers watched in awe, pressing against the walls, hardly daring to breathe.

"Clever," Millen growled, her voice distorted but still intelligible. "Using your smaller size as an advantage. You are using the silent dancers technique, I must admit you have shocked me.”

I refused to say anything, because there was nothing to say except to do what was necessary.

“Fine, let's see how much your petty tricks could save you…”

She feinted left, then struck right, trying to catch me off-guard. But I saw through it even before she attacked. She had used the same technique to confuse Damon in their fight, but this time it was on another different level. My brain worked 5x than before, my perception was bordering on fantasy. At this state, nothing could escape my perception, not even my millen. I went left, in the direction of her feint, because that's where her weight wasn't committed.

My teeth found her ear, tearing through cartilage.

She roared, shaking her massive head, dislodging me and sending me tumbling across the throne room. I hit a pillar hard enough to crack the stone, but the impact barely registered. The bond with my son pulsed along my spine, a constant reminder of what I was fighting for. The pain was just information. Just feedback.

Nothing that mattered.

I was back on my feet before Millen could press her advantage, the purple light already healing the bruises from the impact.

"You are fast," Millen acknowledged, blood dripping from her torn ear. "Faster than you should be. That bond with your abomination… it's fueling you somehow. Giving you access to reserves that shouldn't exist."

"My SON IS NOT AN ABOMINATION!"

The words came out as a snarl that shook the throne room's foundations. The purple light around me flared brighter, bright enough that several soldiers had to shield their eyes. I felt the bond pulse in response, my son's tiny heartbeat synchronizing with my own across the distance separating us.

Millen's expression shifted, something calculating entering her gaze.

"Ah," she said softly. "There it is. Your weakness. It's the attachment. That emotional vulnerability. You are not fighting for survival, little brother. You are fighting for love. So that he may live.”

She moved but not toward me.

Toward the exit. Toward the corridor that Damon had gone through. Toward my son.

Rage like no other exploded through me… pure, primal, absolute. I didn't think. Didn't plan. Didn't calculate angles or trajectories or optimal strike points.

I simply moved, faster than ever.

I hit Millen mid-stride, my full weight slamming into her flank with enough force to send both of us tumbling across the temple away from the exit. We crashed through another pillar, reducing ancient stone to rubble. Rolled together in a tangle of fur and fangs and fury.

“You are right. You are stronger than I, more experienced in battle, and more cunning than I. But we fight for two different things.”

We circled each other, snarling and growling at each other. Millen's senses focused on the exit, while I watched her every move. while waiting for who will make the first move.

Millen's eyes blazed with something beyond rage…beyond strategy or calculation or the cold efficiency she'd wielded like a weapon. This was primal. Raw. The fury of a predator cornered, wounded, and realizing for the first time that it might actually lose

“I will kill you!!”

All battle tactics forgotten.

She lunged at me with killing intent spilling from her body like a visible miasma.

Her jaws snapped at my throat with enough force to decapitate. I barely twisted aside in time, before i felt her teeth graze my neck, taking fur and skin. Before I could recover, her claws raked across my ribs, tearing through muscle. I struck back, teeth finding her shoulder, but she didn't even seem to feel it.

She was a cornered dangerous animal lashing back, and I realized with dawning horror that I'd underestimated her. Underestimated her resilience, her desperation. The purple light flared around my wounds, trying to heal them, but Millen was relentless. She gave me no opening, no moment to breathe.

Her jaws closed on my front leg and twisted. Bone snapped. I howled, trying to pull free, but her grip was iron. She shook me like prey, like something to be broken and discarded.

I crashed into another pillar, the impact driving the air from my lungs. Blood filled my mouth. The bond with my son pulsed weakly, flickering like a dying candle.

Something shifted inside me.

at least he was safe. At least Damon had gotten him away from…

A disturbingly familiar cry pierced the throne room.

My son!

My head snapped toward the sound. Through the shattered entrance, I saw them…Damon stumbling forward, cradling our baby, while Selene trailed behind them both. They shouldn't be here. Should have run. Should have…

"LEAVE MILO ALONE!" Damon's voice cracked with desperation, with the helplessness of an alpha too injured to fight, too weak to protect his mate.

Millen's head zapped toward them. Her bloodied muzzle split into something that might have been a smile.

"How convenient" she growled, her voice dripping with venom. "The crippled alpha and his abomination, delivering themselves on a platter. Even the heavens want me to purge that filthy baby out of this world.”

She moved.

Not toward me.

Toward the baby.

Time seemed to slow for me. I saw her launch herself through the air, massive jaws opening wide, aimed directly at the tiny, helpless bundle in Damon's arms. Saw Damon's eyes widen with horror. Saw selene scream.

Saw my son's face, confused and frightened and so, so small.

Something inside me finally shattered

Not broke. Shattered. Like glass under a hammer, like ice in a furnace, like every restraint I had ever placed on family exploding into fragments.

“You dare touch him…”

A growl tore through my throat… not a wolf's growl, but something deeper. Something that resonated deep within me. The purple light around me flickered, then it exploded into scattered light particles.

I went berserk.
