Chapter 191 Memory of chains
Chapter 191: memory of chains
Milo pov
“Hello brother!!”
That soft silky voice that had come to be my end, said through the chaos, cutting through the tension that was in the air.
“The Queen” gasp of shocks and fear rang through the whole cavern, but that was not what pinned me rooted to the ground like a statue…
The memory crashed through me, like a rush of wild wind, taking my breath, and my freedom away m.
(Months back, back in the mountain caves)
I was on a metal platform, my worst and legs were tired with the familiar burn of wolfsbane, the stench of sterilisation filled the room, as men on white surrounded my barely unconscious body, hovering like evil spirits.
The huge metal door opened, and immediately I felt her…
My sister.
“Hello brother, we need to talk.”
I was barely conscious, my body was burning up with fever caused by the infection from my wounds which was spreading inside my body and in my weakest moment, she had come.
Millen, My sister… She was the Queen all this time!!
With a flick of her hands, She had dismissed the healers. They had scattered like leaves before a storm. Their obedience shocked me to my bones.
"Hello, little brother”," she had said, settling beside my fevered form with the grace of a predator. "You have looked better."
"Millen?" My voice barely a whisper, filled with shock and surprise. "You are the…”
“Yes, i am the queen of the north, brother” she confirmed with a proud smile, that made my stomach twist uncontrollably. When I couldn't bear it, I looked away.
“You shouldn't be surprised brother, it was obvious that I was destined to do great things, while you sat around the house doing the dishes.”
Her words hit home, but I didn't let it show.
“How did you find me?"
"I've always known where you were, Milo, or should I say Mikhail." My body flinched uncontrollably. She had used my real name, the one my grandmother had given me, the same one I was forced to abandon a year ago, now being known as Milo.
"Did you really think you could run from your family? From destiny?"
"I'm not Mikhail anymore. I'm just Milo."
"Names don't change what you are." She pressed something against my chest that was an amulet on a silver chain that seemed to pulse with its own heartbeat. "Do you know what this is?"
"Stay away from me."
"Common, I don't bite. This is an anchor amulet. Very old magic, very rare. It doesn't control, not exactly. It just... helps you remember things. Important things, True things." I flinched back, when she reached for my neck, but I could hardly do anything, but watch her slender hands reach around me, fastening the locket that immediately felt like heavy weight around me. "Like the prophecy."
"There is no prophecy." I gritted my teeth.
"It doesn't work like that brother, whether you like it or not, the prophecy will find you." She leaned close, her breath cold against my burning skin. "Two true alphas cannot share the same space without one destroying the other. It's written in the stars, in our blood, in the very fabric of reality."
"Damon isn't going to destroy anyone."
“Damon is not the only true alpha in the world, milkail, the quicker you understand that the better for you”
I paused from struggling. “what are you saying?”
What I am saying brother, is that you are about true alpha. Our family, our grandmother is the rumoured slayer of blood, the Queen of the Northern territory, the legacy I am reviving back to life.”
“You…i…”
“Damon is our arch enemy, a monster.”
"No, he's not…”
“And you're going to destroy him first." Her fingers had traced patterns on my forehead, and with each touch, images flooded my mind.
“Noo, I can't do what you are asking me to” I managed to yell out my frustration, tears streaming down my pale face.
That made her pause, “ohh, somebody is in love.”
I don't know what you are saying, but I am not betraying Damon or doing whatever you want me to do.”
“Father was right, you are about disgrace, Milo. You would sacrifice your family for a stranger.”
“Damon is not a stranger” I forced straight in my voice, “He is more than you can ever be, or anyone of you can ever be.”
Silence descended following my outburst. The smile that had hung on her face since she came inside the room vanished, replaced by an unreadable expression. I realised too late what I said. But there was no going back. Cause I know deep down, Damon was no longer a stranger to me, since the first time he claimed my body, its as if my whole body and soul have been rewired to see him as something else, not the monster everybody see… but something more,
“There is no release of your destiny milo, you are the Ashbourne wolf, something more powerful than a true alpha. Our grandmother was one, when she was alive, and she fulfilled her responsibilities till her grave.”
“No,ooo” I shook my head, a vehement tear mixed with snot running down my cheeks.
Millen's face contorted in something like a pity, "There's nothing you can do brother, unless…”
“Unless what…” I hated how pathetic I sounded.
"Unless you are going to save him by destroying what he is."
"I don't understand."
"You will..." She stood, looking down at me with the same pity stare. "Your awakening is coming, little brother sooner or later. When it does, you'll become something neither omega nor alpha but between. And when that happens, the prophecy activates."
"You are lying."
"The only way to break the prophecy is for one to choose the other's life over their own. Complete sacrifice. Complete betrayal." She had smiled then, cold and beautiful and terrible. "You always were the self-sacrificing type. I'm counting on it."
"I won't hurt him."
"You won't have to. Hurting him would be merciful compared to what's coming." She had moved toward the cave entrance, then paused. "When the time comes, when you feel a child growing inside you, you will understand. Some betrayals are acts of love."
"Child? What are you talking about?"
"Oh, didn't you know? Moonblessed omegas are incredibly fertile after awakening. Nature's way of ensuring the bloodline continues." Her laugh echoed off the cave walls. "Congratulations on your future pregnancy, brother. I'm sure Damon will be thrilled. Right up until he realizes what it means."
She left the room, the sound of the screeching door, echoing in the silence, except for the little whispers that came from the amulet that pulsed against my chest.
“Hide this, Forget this conversation. Protect Damon. Save Damon. Betray Damon to save him”
Over and over the little whispers rang in my head, until I couldn't tell what was real and what was planted.
(Present day)
I woke up with a start.
"You are remembering," Millen said beside me, pulling me from the troubling memories.
I looked around, and to my dismay, We were in her royal transport, surrounded by her enhanced guards.
