Chapter 141 Coming for you
Chapter141: Coming for you
Damon pov
“Arrgghhhhhh”!!
Another burst of pain hit me again. And again.
It felt like my bones were breaking. Like my skin was on fire. Like my soul was being torn apart inside.
I screamed so loud my throat burned from screaming.
"Hold on!" James shouted. "Damon, hold on!"
But I could hardly hear anything that was being said. This was greater than any pain, greater than any suffering… it was oure torture, no wonder Daphne said it a forbidden old technique.
Through my tears, I looked at the culprits that were kneeling in the circle of blue flames, I saw something that made my heart stop.
Blood was dripping from Daphne's nose.
That means the ritual was affecting her as well as it was affecting me, maybe even worse…
"Daphne, stop!" I tried to yell, but only more screams came out.
James saw it, too. "Daphne, you are bleeding!"
He ran toward her to help, but the blue light exploded. James flew backward, hitting the hard wall.
"James!" I screamed his name, worried if he was okay, but I couldn't move. The pain had me trapped.
"Stay back!" Daphne shouted at James, who was trying to stand up. Her voice was weaker now. "If you break the circle, it will kill him!"
James groaned from the floor. "You're killing yourself!"
"I'm fine," but we all know it was a lie. More blood dripped down her face.
“Daphne, you…aarrhh”
The pain got worse, and I curled up like a ball, anything to reduce the pain that was reeking havoc inside me.
I could feel the curse fighting against Daphne's magic. It was like two storms crashing inside me.
Then suddenly, I felt something else apart from pain.
Milo!!
Our bond burst open like a door that was being kicked down. I could feel everything all at once, His fear. His pain, how weak he was,
But he was alive.
"The mountain," I gasped between screams. "He's in Black Stone Mountain."
"What?" James was getting up slowly, holding his head.
"The old mining tunnels. Underground." I could see it in my mind.
“Dark tunnels, filled with stones.”
The pain started to fade, The blue light got dimmer, at the same time.the pain that was ravaging my body slowed.
I felt a little lighter. The curse was still there, but quieter, like a sleeping monster.
Daphne's legs gave out. She fell on her hands, beads of sweat polled around her trembling hands, on the ground.
"Daphne!" James caught her before she hit the ground.
"I'm okay," she whispered. But she wasn't. She looked paler than before, and then her aura was off, fluctuating wildly.
“Just what have you done??."
James looked at me. "The chains, I need to get the chains off."
He ran to me and started pulling at the wolfsbane chains. They burned his hands, but he didn't stop.
"Are you good?" he asked as the chains fell away. "Can you stand?"
I could barely think straight.. I was so angry at Daphne who was lying down, probably too weak to stand. Her skin turned white at an increasing pace. She had lost a considerable amount of blood from her cuts.
"What were you thinking?" I exploded at her. "You could have died!"
She looked up at me, her face tired and weak, but her eyes remained the ever blazing fire. "Anything for Milo."
"What?"
"It's my fault." Her voice was so quiet I almost didn't hear her. "It's my fault he was kidnapped."
"Daphne, that's not…"
"I was supposed to protect him. I failed." She closed her eyes. "This is the least I can do."
I wanted to tell her a lot of things, like how it was my fault for trusting quickly, how I had allowed traitors to roam free in my pack without killing them. And how my stupid actions caused Milo to be kidnapped right under my nose… but I didn't say anything.
I could feel her life force breaking apart. Like a candle flame getting smaller and smaller.
"How long will your magic last?" I asked.
"Not long. Maybe until tomorrow. Maybe less, depending on the type of curse."
I tried standing up. My legs were shaky at first, but after a few tries, they held. My skin had open burning wounds from the concentrated wolfbane that was present in the chains, but I didn't care…
"I'm going after him."
"That's crazy!" James said. "It's obviously a trap!"
"I know." I walked to the door. "But I'm going anyway."
“That's suicide alpha.” James blocked the road.
“Milo is in deep trouble. If I don't get to him now, I think I might not get to him again.”
“What are you talking about” james scowled,
“They are draining his blood. I saw it as part of his vision.”
"Then we're coming with you. It's so dangerous, you will need a backup."
"No." I turned to look at them. "Milo needs me, I can handle this.”
“You are just one man, not a hundred army,” he argued.
“noo. I will go alone, don't forget who I am, James, when have I hesitated in facing a thousand all by myself..”
“But…”
“...but the pack needs you, What's left of it."
"Damon…" He called me by my name, evidence that he was frustrated, but then I didn't mind.
"That's an order. If I don't come back, you lead them."
"You're coming back," James said firmly.
I didn't answer. We both knew I might not.
"Thank you," I said, my gaze landed on Daphne, my eyes filled with sincerity. "For everything."
"Damon," Daphne called out. Her voice was barely a whisper. "The bond. You have to accept it fully. All of it. Or you'll lose him forever."
"I know."
"Do you?" She opened her eyes. "Do you really? Because accepting means no more running. No more pretending. He's your mate. Your true mate."
"I said I know."
I left before she could say more.
Behind me, I heard James curse loudly. But he didn't follow. Good. They needed to be safe.
I ran out of the building and into the night. The moon was almost full. Tomorrow, it will be red with blood.
I could still feel Milo through our bond. He was so far away. So weak.
But I could find him. The bond was like a rope pulling me forward.
The palace was in chaos, shen. I arrived.. Warriors are running everywhere. Some preparing defenses. Others pack to leave the pack for good.
And, yes ,I have gone to the one place I knew I was not supposed to go…
My pack!
I hadn't told James that I would be going. I already knew it would turn out…
That's why I went silently on my own to face my shame.
To see my pack for what might be the last time.
They all stopped when they saw me. I was not trying to hide, I stood out in the open, enduring the heavy weight of the guilt that wanted to drown me whole.
Fear… That's what I saw in their eyes. Fear of me, of what their alpha is.
“Good… They should fear me.” I thought bitterly before going to my chambers or what remains of it. where it all started.
After looking around, I grabbed some weapons. Swords, knives, and anything I could carry that would be of help to me.
“He is here. The beast is in the palace.”
I heard a small commotion outside. Coming out, I saw that a group of soldiers led by the remaining three generals gathered just outside the ruins that were once a towering structure in the pack.
My heart swelled with pain, unshed tears pooling at my eyes, seeing my warriors, my brothers in arms. People I have painstakingly trained bearing their swords at me. the respect and gratitude that once filled their faces was long gone, filled with hostility.
I was now the enemy.
No one tried to stop me when I moved. No one even spoke to me, as they continued to follow me at a considerable pace, out of the pack borders.
I was alone.
Just like 10 years ago.
No, not alone. I could feel Milo through our bond. Weak but there.
“I'm coming,” I thought, hoping he could hear me wherever he was. “Hold on. I am coming.”
Black Stone Mountain. The old mining tunnels.
It was three hours away if I ran full speed. But just one hour if I let my wolf out.
But I couldn't. The curse was quiet now, but if I shifted, it might wake up.
So, I ran as a human. Through the forest. Over rivers and lakes, past empty houses.
The whole time, I felt Milo getting weaker.
"Hold on," I whispered as I ran. "Just hold on. I'm coming, my little wolf."
I knew it was a trap. They wanted me to come. They were using Milo as bait.
But I didn't care.
And I had already failed him once. I wouldn't fail him again.
The mountain range got closer. Dark and tall against the night sky. At the same time, my connection with him became clearer.
Somewhere in there, Milo was waiting.
Scared, Hurt, and Alone.
But not for long.
I was coming.
And anyone who stood in my way would learn what happens when you poke an angry Alpha.
Slave? or pet? or mate?, anyone he is to me.
I would save him.
Or die trying.
