Chapter 137 I am sorry
Chapter 137: I am sorry
Damon pov
"Alpha!"
I turned quickly at the sound of my voice, to see an old man was crawling toward me. I recognised his face, Elder Marcus. One of my most loyal advisors.
Half his face was covered in blood. Claw marks ran down his chest.
My claw marks.
Did I do this to him?
"Elder Marcus," I gasped, rushing to him. "I am sorry. I'm so..
"Run," he wheezed, grabbing my arm. "You need to run."
"What? No, I need to help you…"
"Listen!" He coughed, blood coming out. "They are coming. The ones who did this. Who made you…"
He coughed out blood violently
“I…you need…”
His eyes went wide, then empty.
He fell forward, dead cold.
"NOO!!!” I screamed, shaking him lifeless as if it would bring him back from the dead.
“The beast is in sight, engage!!”
I looked up. Soldiers were coming, Lots of i recognised immediately, My own warriors.
But they weren't looking at me like their Alpha.
They were looking at me like a monster.
"Stay back!" one shouted, pointing a spear at me. "Don't come any closer!"
"I'm your Alpha!" I said. "I…"
"You killed them!" another warrior screamed. "You killed our brothers!. You are no Alpha but a beast.
My heart twisted painfully at his words, like he had stabbed me. But I didn't blame them, they didn't recognize me, not with the blood and gore that covered my entire body.
I looked around again, Really looked this time.
And I recognized them all. My face continued to twist as my eyes ran through the whole field that looked like it was run through by a storm. Warriors who had fought beside me. Guards who had protected me as their alpha, laid unmoving.
All dead.
All killed by me.
"I didn't mean to," I said weakly, unconsciously moving back. "The curse…"
"MONSTER!" someone screamed.
They started throwing things. Rocks. Spears. Anything they could find.
“Charge, kill the monster that had come to destroy our pack. For revenge!”
“For revenge”
My warriors, led by commander Josh, charged at me like I was the real enemy.
Well maybe in this case I was.
“Where is James?” I thought in alarm. I noticed that he was not in their midst, together with the whole shadow unit…
A bad feeling settled in my gust, but I didn't have time to think about anything else other than to survive my warriors that were out for my head.
I didn't fight back, I didn't want to harm anymore than I have already… I deserved everything I was getting.
But then my wolf woke up.
Not normal waking, I felt the familiar feeling like a storm coming. A storm I couldn't fight no matter what.
“KILL THEM ALL.”
"No," I growled loudly, holding my head. "Not again, dax pls fight it."
“THEY THREATEN US. KILL.”
My bones started cracking, preparing itself to shift without my control.
"Stop!" I begged. "Please stop!"
But it was too late.
The curse was taking over, and so fast that I could do nothing about it.
I was turning into a beast.
The transformation was violent. Painful, and smelled all Wrong.
When it finished, I wasn't a normal wolf. I wasn't sure what i was eithrr…but i know.it was
Bigger, Hungrier and tasty for blood.
The warriors screamed and ran in the opposite direction, some weaker ones couldn't even move their body because of the pressure that was emanating from my transformation.
I watched from inside my own head at the chaos that was me as I tore through their strongest defense in a matter of seconds. I also watched general josh battle bravely with the beast. But from the looks of things it was a matter of time before the beast tore him to pieces.
I tried to stop it. I tried to take control before it's too late.
But I was trapped inside my head. I was a prisoner in my own body.
“This is what you are,” a voice whispered. Not my wolf. Something else. Something dark. This is what you've always been.
"No!"
"Yes. You are a killer. A monster. Everyone knows you killed your own mate.”
“Noooo!, stop you bastard.”
I struggled harder but the beat was stronger, fueled by the bloodmoon that was in 2 days, I didn't stand a chance.
Then through the chaos, I heard something…
“Damon…”
A soft voice. It was soft. But it was able to pierce through everything,
I froze, even the beast paused for a moment.
Now!! I roared. Taking advantage of the split opportunity I had, to take control, I immediately abandoned the one sided battle, I looked at my tired but hopeful warriors who were cheering that I was retreating.
For a moment, general Josh and my eyes collided, I saw the slight shift of his eyebrows, a cold recognition, maybe...
“Arrrgghhh”
I gave a sad howl, before I ran into the forest, destroying everything in my path.
“Give me back control.” The voice roared inside my head.
the world turned black, but I was smiling at the end at least I was no longer destroying my own people.
my eyes opened, to a clearing.
Slowly I sat up, my eyes scanning the damage I had caused to the peaceful forest. All trees around a mile radius uprooted by their roots.
“I had done all this,” I said to myself.
The curse had calmed down. Not because I controlled it. Because there was nothing left to destroy.
I couldn't control it. It was a miracle that I had taken control at the last minute.
I could have sworn I heard a voice…
"Milo?" I whispered, my voice shaking.
But there was no answer.
“Please milo, Where are you?" I screamed, but only the sound of my echoed answered back.
I tried to reach out to that soft voice in my head, but I got nothing, no connection. It was as if it never existed.
I stood up on shaky legs. I couldn't stay here. The warriors would come back with more weapons, and fighters.
Looking at the destruction I had created, it was so easy to find me in this state of vulnerability.
Friends and foe at large.
I needed to be alive… until I found him.
I started walking,
I knew where to go. The one place I had built for this exact situation.
The Room of Chains.
A prison I had made years ago. After the first time the curse had taken over. After that terrible Incident.
It was hidden deep in the mountains, reinforced with the hardest material in the world. In addition it was wrapped in so much wolfsbane that no wolf could stand being near it.
It was torture.
But then It was the only place I would be safe from myself.
I ran through the forest, naked and covered in blood. All lifeforms I passed ran away in fear.
Good, they should fear me.
I was a monster.
After what looked like hours of running aimlessly, I finally found a particular mountain looming ahead.
It didn't take me long to find the hidden entrance and went inside.
The smell of wolfsbane hit me immediately. My skin started burning. My wolf howled in pain.
But I kept going. The deeper I went, the more pain my whole body went through.
Finally, I reached the innermost part.
The Room of Chains.
Silver chains hung from the walls and ceiling. The floor was covered in wolfsbane flowers that sprouted from the ground. The air itself was poison to wolves.
It was perfect.
I walked to the center of the room and started putting on the chains. Around my wrists. My ankles. My neck.
Each one burned, but I welcomed the pain.
This was my prison.
This was where monsters belonged.
I sat down in the middle of my cage and closed my eyes.
"I'm sorry," I whispered to the darkness. "I'm so sorry."
But sorry wasn't enough.
Sorry wouldn't bring back the dead.
Sorry wouldn't find Milo.
Sorry wouldn't cure the curse.
I was trapped. In this room. In this curse. In this nightmare.
And the worst part?
The blood moon was coming.
In two days, the curse would be at its strongest.
I feared that these chains might not be enough to hold me then.
