Chapter 116 lunaris draught

Chapter 116 lunaris draught

Chapter 116: Lunaris draught

Milo’s POV

I didn’t know what I was expecting when I pushed the door of the room open. The emptiness and silence of the room slammed into me like a speeding truck.

I paused for a moment, my chest tightening with a strange hollowness. I had already conditioned my mind not to expect more, not to hope for anything different— but still, the sight of the empty still silence pressed down on me.

Damon wasn’t here, again.

A frown crept towards my face, followed by suspicion. Where could he be? My thoughts went back to James, and how he had avoided the question like a plague, then to the urgency in his tone as he hurried me back home. He had mentioned that a pack of rogue wolves was sighted near the pack, but then I couldn't stop this feeling that there was something more. It was like a tight coil that refused to loosen up no matter how hard I tried.

We had managed to slip back to the mansion, and like a ghost, James had disappeared with the same urgency clearly written on his—

Shaking my head, to get rid of all the troubling dark thoughts of mine. Now was not the time to overthink anything. I told myself.

I managed to drag my tired body inside the room. And despite how bad I hated the mere thoughts of it, I made my way to the small cage that was supposed to be my resting place.

My stomach coiled uneasily, but I forced myself forward. Not wanting to get into trouble or caught by Damon wandering where I wasn't supposed to, I slipped quietly into my cage, curling up myself into a ball, as I waited for the long awaited sleep that never came.

I continued to shift restlessly, So many dark ideas and thoughts continued to flash in my mind,

The girl’s face came first. That trembling little smile, so bright and fragile, appeared dark and twisted in my head. I couldn't stop praying that she wouldn't meet the rogue wolves.

Did she make it home safely? Or had the rogues found her in the woods? The thought dug into me, sharp and bitter, until my chest ached with it.

And then came the thoughts of the death match tomorrow. What if I lose? What if I die in the arena? What will happen

I shifted for the hundredth time since I laid down on the cage. Having no choice, I chose to concentrate on the low genetic hum that continued to buzz in my whole body.

my skin humed with a faint vibration, like every inch of me was singing to a song I didn’t know.

I rubbed at my arms, willing it to stop, but the sensation lingered stubbornly, together with my restlessnessness. I continued to roll on my bed for like forever, until sleep finally claimed me.

Unknown POV

Inside a dimly lit chamber, figures cloaked in complete darkness surround a long round table in the center of the room. The flickering light from the lamps sometimes illuminated their sharp, fierce looking eyes that were hidden behind a cloak, as they looked up to the person that was currently addressing them,

A huge man that had a large Saber that was as tall as him stashed at his back like a prized possession.

“We should strike them during the bloodmoon,” he rasped. “That’s when their wolves go crazy, and they surrender to their instincts. That's the difference between us and their so-called pack bond. We descend on them before they even know what hit them, and we will crush them apart.”

“No,” another countered, slamming his fist against the stone table. “We cut their supplies. Let their strength wither. Let them crumble from within. Whether independent or not, hunger breaks even the strongest pack. Damon is no different than a proud peacock, but he is not stupid. He will surely surrender. And then we would swoop in and reap the fruits of our labor.”

The room exploded in different voices of agreement and acknowledgment. Words like

“We will finally take down the unrighteous once and for all.”

“The Ashbourne wolf will be ours.”

Different voices tried to voice out their opinion all at once, clamoring to get a speaker chance

Until the leader moved.

A petite tall figure seated in the middle of the table, shrouded completely in black shadow, lifted her hand.

Like small children that saw their teacher, Silence swallowed the whole room as if the moon goddess just gave the command.

“Alpha Raphael, you are even more stupid than I thought.” Her little voice, cut across the chamber, filled with disappointment and condescending manners.

“You speak as though Damon is like any other alpha you can openly fight against, even with numbers on our side. Have you forgotten that he has been confirmed… a true wolf?”

The words sent a ripple through their excitement, and like water that was doused in a fire, the whole room turned sober.

Some gathered floor members stiffened. Others dropped their gazes, not daring to breathe out aloud. The alpha that was being referred to looked like he had seen a scary ghost. He continued to shake and gap dumbly at the mystery leader who didn't spare a word.

“A true alpha is a rarity of nature, the same way the Ashbourne is an even greater rarity of our kind. They are an unreachable nightmare that couldn’t be tamed by ordinary means.” The leader leaned forward, her presence filling every corner of the chamber, as her eyes trained on Alpha Rafael, who wanted to disappear. “Your plans are useless against him. You can starve him all you want, and they would kill and eat one another to survive. The bloodmoon didn't break him for years. What makes you think it will break him now?”

“Esteemed priestess, what do you have in mind?” a middle aged man, with long hair, spoke up.

“ In this situation, the most brilliant weapon is not force… It is patience. Let nature take its course.” She paused, then with deliberate weight, she brought out a bottle with a transparent liquid inside.

“The Lunaris Draught. Has anybody heard of such a baby before?”

The sound of shocked gasps broke through the chamber. Murmurs broke out all at once with people not daring to say the name aloud, as if it's taboo.

“Impossible…” “That poison is extinct…how” the middle-aged man finally lost his composure.

“We all have heard one or two about this precious baby.” Her smirk widened as if she was enjoying the thrill of looking at their shocked faces.

“It is no myth. It runs through him even now. A rare poison that can never be detected by any known man made invention.”

The chamber descended into stunned silence.

One by one, the members lowered their heads, a new type of light flickering in their eyes. The reverence and praise in their faces was so visible and glaring. Their leader’s brilliance had once again left them without words.
