Chapter 84 SLIMY

Chapter 84 SLIMY
I have no time to react, and yet everything feels like it's playing in slow motion.

I don't feel my arm lift, I don't remember pulling the trigger, all I remember is a loud plop and Tamrien falls backwards into the holding cell with a red raw hole between his thick eyebrows.

My breathing comes hard, jagged even.

I lift my hand, knowingly this time, and I shoot away at him.

I shoot him till all the bullets empty into his chest. I turn around to find Dante watching me with zero emotions on his face.

“We're leaving.” He announces.

He won't even let me soak up my win? I turn to Tamrien one last time and I smile, I can't help it.

His head is lolled back, his pupils have disappeared into his skull, he's bleeding from multiple places and the sight is beautiful.

“That was for Pixie.” I say to him and I turn around and follow Dante.

We leave the basement through a separate staircase and we arrive at a private garage.

He walks towards a different car and unlocks the passenger seat.
“Get in.”
His tone is clipped and his eyes are hard.
“Dante I'm sorry.”
“Get. In.”

I want to roll my eyes at him but he might make me regret it.

I get into the car and place my head against the glass. I know that I shouldn't have gotten closer to the cell, Dante had warned me that Tamrien could not be contained, but he had so silently dismantled those handcuffs and freed himself. He was also chained to the floor, I had not expected him to be that good at escaping.

He had taken me completely by surprise.
I'm proud of myself, for reacting fast, I'm proud.

Dante enters into the car and slams the door. Oh he's angry.
“I didn't think that he would free himself and-”
“I don't want to hear it.” The coldness in his voice could freeze hell over.

I want to argue with him, I want to demand for him to talk this out with me, but I have never truly seen him this calm. He's too calm.

If I had known he would disappear for almost a week, I would have pushed harder. I didn't.

I haven't seen Dante in three days. He's just been gone.
I tried calling him but he won't pick up my calls.
Maria is sitting across from me at the dining table and Viviana is sitting beside me.
“Anya?”
“Huh…” I catch myself staring at the thin air, lost in thoughts.
“Harald and Celeste are having a birthday party tomorrow, I was wondering if you could take me?”
“Who is Harald and Celeste?”
“My best friends from school. Have you forgotten?”
“Oh yes, that's right… No I haven't forgotten it's just, I was thinking about something.”
“Okay.”
“I will take you, when is the party starting?”
“Thank you. It's starting tomorrow.”
“They placed the time around two pm.” Maria informs me “Dante said we should go with Alessio.”
“You've spoken to Dante?” I ask Maria and she nods “Yes, is there a problem?”
“No, there's no problem.”

He's been avoiding me and I can understand why. He asked me not to go near the bars but I had gone so close that Tamrien could reach out and cut me with the handcuffs. But it still doesn't make me feel sad that he's been avoiding me.

My phone buzzes on my lap and I quickly grab it. There's a text on the screen and it's from my mum.

I almost tossed the phone back but I read it anyway.
“Anya, there's a man here, he's asking about you.”
“Wait, what man?” I quickly text back.

I stand up, pushing my chair back.
“He says he's a friend of yours.”
“Why did you let him in?”
“I opened the door and he kind of invited himself in. He says his name is Russo.”
