Chapter 73 44

Chapter 73 44

The world seems to be slowing down these days. I never thought bad things would happen to us. It never even occurred to me. I was safe and happy with him. But now, I was the saddest person in the entire universe. Two days were the longest time I had ever spent. It was the same days without my husband around me but these two were more torturous.

"Did you hear anything from them?" I asked Assassin.

This was a stone house, a giant one and full of luxury. I came out only when the sun was out and shining bright. It was cold but the stone house kept it away. It was a beautiful place but without my husband everything was dull.

"Yes, ma'am. The bad weather has caused delay to them. The sun is sinking. It will be cool soon." He looked up at the sky. The grey clouds were running to cover it all.

I glanced at him and nodded. I trot inside. It felt like a miracle to see a stone house and it could be beautiful too.

I had my meal in my room as I did daily. I fell asleep the moment my head touched the pillow. I was feeling fatigued without any reason.

Confusion made my forehead wrinkled. I was in the stone house. When did I come home?

"Duante?" I said out his name louder. I heard footsteps behind me. I lifted my foot to spin to face him. But I couldn't turn.

Though I could feel someone coming toward me, still it was dead silence in the house and looking haunted. I tried to spin again. It panicked me when I couldn't.

"Duante?" I squealed in fear when I couldn't turn to see around.

I perceived a light touch on my elbow. I shivered as goosebumps rippled through my arms and body. I froze in dread, holding my breath. I recognized it. He wasn't my husband. I opened my mouth to cry. Nothing came out. All I was feeling was fear and bound with unseen shackles. I forced myself to speak that didn't come near me. I couldn't. Tears burnt in my eyes.

My eyes jerked open. I was breathing hard. I stared at the ceiling for a couple of seconds. I prolonged my shivering hand toward the switch and turned on the lights.

Tears were running down my cheeks. My heart was thrumming in fear, a bead of sweat was running down my spine. I was terrified. I didn't want to be alone. My eyes were searching around for my husband though my mind knew he wouldn't be here.

I sauntered over to the door. I gripped the knob and turned. I wasn't feeling safe. I could feel Ricky around me. Duante had killed him but my fear was the same without my husband.

Rocky got on his feet. I didn't want him around me. Particularly, after his threatening to me. "Assassin," I muttered, looking away without meeting his gaze. I kept my distance from him and his girlfriend.

The fire was still alive in the hearth. I walked over to the couch and sat down. I cried softly staring at the burning blankly. I was clasping my hands together. I wanted my husband so badly. I wanted to feel safe, his being around me, his arms around me.

"Ma'am," He looked down at me anxiously.

"I want my husband. Now." I issued an order in my cracked voice. I was still not looking at him.

"Have you had a dream?" Assassin asked, humbly.

"My husband. Go, I want him around me." My tears didn't stop running down my cheeks.

"Ma'am, please drink some water." Rocky brought me a glass of water.

I didn't realize that I was crying loudly until I heard my sobbing echoing.

"Evie!" His angry gaze turned to them. " What's happening?" Tom's seething voice filled the hall.

My head snapped to him. I shot on my feet. I sauntered ahead. My crying got worse. "I want Duante. Please, tell him to end this. Andrew wants his power, throne money... Let them take everything, Just return me my husband. I'm feeling as if I'm dying without him slowly. Please...'' My voice was breaking with emotion.

" Let's get you back to the room." His hand landed on my shoulder, his eyes softened on me.

I shook my head looking up at him. "No," My throat was clogged. I turned my glassy gaze to the door hoping he would walk in getting on my feet. But there was only Devil, covered in black. His covered face was turned to us.

Tom motioned at them to leave. Rocky bowed his head and left. Assassin walked into my room. "Sit." He whispered.

I settled down. Tom squatted in front of me and held my trembling hand.

"It must be a nightmare. It's normal." He rubbed his fingers on the back of my hand and offered me his soft smile which he kept preserved for his wife, his brother and me.

"I-I saw him. I was blindfolded most of the time. I could feel him around me." His eyes wrinkled in confusion as he felt my shiver increasing.

"Who are you talking about? " Tom asked.

"R-ic-ky, I felt him when Andrew walked in my room during the meeting."

I felt something soft and warm landing on my shoulder. Assassin placed my long furry creamy coat on my shoulder.

"Evie, brother killed him. You saw it." He looked into my eyes. "And." He smiled, looking at Devil. "I saw the footage. Brother may be alive. It's just a glimpse of Drake in it. But I can assure you."

I blinked the tears to clear the view. "Did you see Duante?"

"There was chaos after the blast. Only could have a glimpse of Drake. And he would never leave brother's side. He must have planned something."

I didn't know he was saying to bring a smile to my face. But Duante should be here when I need him most.

"I won't talk to him when you find him. He shouldn't have disappeared." I was serious but I wasn't certain.

I saw doubt flashing in his eyes. I couldn't be certain my saying was the reason or it was something else. I would stick to the inner voice of mind. He would be out there chasing the stalker.

"Do you think Andrew could be the stalker?" I voiced my doubt.

Tom shook his head. "You're not thinking about it, your nightmare or anything. Your baby needs you now. You should be happy."

"I don't know how to smile and be happy without him. He said right I didn't die without him. But I don't know how to live without him. Everything! Nothing seems important. And my baby." My arm came around my stomach. "That's all I feel I have. But that doesn't make me happy. Please, I want my husband back. I'll apologize to him though he should be the one." Tears welled in my eyes.

"Brother will never apologize." He got on his feet and tugged me on my feet. "No more talking. You're resting. If you want, I can stay in your room."

"No, you must be tired. I'll be alright." I shook my head. He didn't tell me about his visit.

He guided me to my room. "I'm next to your door. Just shout my name, I'll be there, nothing to fear, Evie."

"Ok, I believe Ricky is alive." I let out a shuddering breath.

"You're not thinking about anything. Think about your baby. Have you talked to them?"

"I don't know."

He laughed. "You should talk to Mini and Rose. They're gonna teach you a lot of things. As talking to your baby."

I flashed a smile his way. "I'll try to do that."

"Go to sleep." He kissed my head.

"Good night." I muttered, pushing sadness away.

He nodded at me, striding over to the next door.
