She still wants him...

Another engagement? They were planning on getting Luciano and Certa engaged once again? I did not know what to feel about that. It had nothing to do with me.

But that did not mean u did not feel some type of way. Why did the engagement end suddenly and why were they offering another engagement to Luciano.

Scratch that. They could have their reasons for all I care but what kind of disrespect was this? Everyone was well aware that I cane here as Luciano's date so why were they offering him an engagement when I was standing right beside him.

It was rude. Absolutely rude.

Beside me, I could tell that Luciano's demeanour had changed.

"The engagement was cancelled, me Paulo." Luciano stated.

Cancelled? What could be the reason?

"You are very well aware of this." Luciano clarified.

From the looks on the Paulos faces. I could tell that the cancellation of the engagement was not their choice. It had to have been Luciano's choice.

Mr Paulo looked uneasy as he quickly spoke up. "it's been a year, Luciano. Dint you think you should reconsider..."

"Nothing had changed during that duration. You and I know this." Luciano's voice was colder and less friendly this time.

"That does not mean you can not do it if you like. The engagement was cancelled due to circumstances that were beyond us." Mr Paulo reasoned.

"And those circumstances are not beyond us now?" Luciano asked. It was more like a rhetorical question and j was certain that they both knew the answer. Whatever reason caused the cancellation if the engagement, it was still there. Nothing had changed and both of them could tell.

"Look, nothing had changed. I know that. But there has been enough time, one year for us to see that the engagement being cancelled brought wrong choices." Mr Paulo stressed.

He looked desperate and so did his wife. This was important to them. Very important.

Now I could tell why Certa had been uncomfortable around Luciano. She still liked him... It still wanted their engagement to stand. It was difficult for her bring in the same space as him. There was still some tension and friction between the both of them.

The more I tried to think about it, the note confused I got so I decided to let it go and just watch the scene that was currently unfolding in front if me. That was much easier and less problematic.

Luciano scoffed. "and you think it being redefined will make the right choices?"

They did not say a word so Luciano continued. "I am a practical man. What happened a year ago with that engagement was not something I intended to repeat. You both were not clear on many things."

Mrs Paulo looked desperate as she said. "Please, don't let that stop you. Certa has been hurt... She suffered after it ended. She's being going through it... Don't do this... Don't leave her like this."

So I was right. Certa still wanted to be engaged to him. This man was a heartbreaker. I could see it. If you got too close to him, it was hard not to get lost in everything that had to do with him. He was like perfection in another sense.

His scent, intelligent, intuition, accent, physique, face, mannerism and his posture. He was like a sculpted work if art. He was just too perfect and that would naturally leave any girl swooning over him. He was like a drug. A drug you could easily get addicted to. He was dangerous, very dangerous and that is why I liked to run as far away from him as I possibly could.

"What is going on here?" I looked up to see Certa approaching us.

She looked like she just left the restroom after crying her eyes out. She had redone her makeup but I was a lady. For someone who had covered my puffy eyes with makeup a few times, I could always tell the outcome.

Mr Paulo took in a deep breath. "nothing serious, Certa. Go enjoy the ball." I could tell that they did not want her here.

They knew that he still affected her.

Certa took in a deep breath. "no, papa. I'm staying here. I'll listen to whatever you both have to say..."

"Dint do this to yourself, Certa...." Mrs Paulo tried to warm her but Certa shook her head, cutting her mother off.

"I'm just standing here and listening to you both speak. It's not going to kill me, mama." She reasoned.

Mrs Paulo was relentless. "no! You will not do this to yourself. Come, leave the men to talk. Let your papa speak to him." She grabbed Certa's hand. "let's go have snacks."

Certa shrugged her mother's hands off. "No, mama. Whatever papa is going to say, I want to hear it all."

Certa was speaking to her mother but her eyes remained on Luciano. She stared at him like he was the only thing that mattered in the world. I could see the pain in her eyes, the longing. She was fighting herself by being here. She wanted to be engaged to him again, to be able to call him her fiance once again. She wanted to be in my place and attend events with him. So he could hold get hand and dance with her.

Now I understood why Luciano told me not to go after her. Certa did not necessarily like me too. She just gave me a genuine compliment, that was all. I was in the position she wanted to be. Even though it was just platonic, she did not know that.

If I had gone after her, I would have been rubbing it in her face. I was grateful for not going after her, thanks to Luciano.

I took in a deep breath then walked away from them, giving them the privacy they needed to talk about whatever they wanted to talk about. I just wanted to go home.
