Chapter 35 About Mission
"Stop, I don't want to see a story like that."
Rebecca looked at Julia in surprise. Usually, her best friend was the one who loved such melancholic stories. How could Julia not want to now?
"How unusual is it that you don't want to hear and see a story like that?"
“I don’t accept a story like that, why did they have to separate? Why did they have to kill each other? Why didn’t they think about staying together and finding a middle ground for everything that happened? They could have both decided to quit their jobs and live together as simple, happy civilians. They didn’t need to be police officers, they didn’t need to be mafia, they could just live together without any prestige towards each other and also accept and be open to each other. I think that’s enough, why chase and kill each other? Why should there be love if in the end they will never be happy or even never be able to be together forever. It’s annoying!”
Rebecca grew increasingly confused by her friend's sudden anger, then shook her head completely.
"What's wrong with you, Julia? Why do you seem so emotional? This isn't your story, it's just fiction, and stop overdramatizing the situation as if everything is more complicated."
"I feel tired."
"How many times did you make love last night?"
"Not at all."
"Did you fight?"
"No, it's just that he was incredibly annoying last night."
"Just make him jealous. That will be quite effective in seeing if your husband is truly afraid of losing you or not."
"What do you mean?"
"Approach another man so you can see how he reacts."
An idea that managed to silence Julia immediately and convinced her it was the best idea ever. That way, she could also find out if her husband truly loved her or not.
"Is that really true? What if he gets even angrier with me and our relationship gets even worse? Like you said, we're just starting out, and we shouldn't be in a relationship like this, right?"
"Or could you tease him? Men can never resist temptation, Julia."
Julia immediately let out a heavy sigh. She had already done that last night, but her husband had completely ignored her. She was truly confused. There were times when her husband seemed so sweet and even so attentive that Julia felt misunderstood. Other times, he had the opposite attitude, and it was enough to confuse Julia beyond belief. Or was that one of the reasons her husband was distancing himself from Julia? So that Julia wouldn't expect too much from him? If that were the case, Kay should have told her directly and wouldn't have had to act like that. Julia would have truly understood, because of course she respected every decision her husband might make. However, hadn't they previously lived their days as a normal married couple? So why had Kay suddenly become so cold and even annoying? Or had he secretly fallen in love with a new woman? Julia's thoughts grew more and more twisted, until she finally stood up and left her office.
"That newlywed woman is truly annoying. Now she doesn't even care about her work and just leaves."
Mr. Michelle, who had just entered Rebecca's office, watched Julia leave questioningly, as if she were an aunt. She hadn't even come to the office for a while, and now she'd just set foot in the office and left again.
"What's wrong with that woman? Why did she suddenly come and then leave? Does she no longer want to work here because she has a husband as rich as Dad?"
Rebecca shrugged nonchalantly and then returned to her work.
"Like most wives, when things aren't going well with their husbands, they come complaining and then leave as they please. I was just about to tell her about some new tasks she'll have to take on while she's an Isi (Islamic content manager) so she won't be burdened with the mafia issues she has to deal with, but she left first after a long list of complaints. We were just having dinner together yesterday, and suddenly everything's like this. It's so annoying. And if Julia keeps acting like this any longer, I think I'll have to meet with Kay to make him pay, because he promised me yesterday he wouldn't make my best friend cry."
"Don't interfere too much in other people's household affairs. Just let them continue doing their duties as a married couple. We're just spectators and don't know the truth. Hearing the story from one side isn't a good thing, either. Sometimes, the story will be added or subtracted to suit their own version to make themselves look good in the eyes of the person they're talking to."
Rebecca paused for a moment at Mr. Michelle's words, then she chose to agree with what the man had said and continued with her work.
Today, Kay was working as normal as one of the leaders of the company he currently owns. The man was intently reviewing several documents. Then, he let out a long sigh. Many things were bothering him, one of which was Julia. Where was she? Shouldn't his wife be here working with him? So how could she suddenly disappear after last night's incident? Kay had no idea, nor did he think that perhaps his wife was currently at her supposed workplace, meeting up with some of her friends.
"I've investigated the names of the criminals you sent me, sir. And I've identified 10 individuals who have a high probability of committing the crime and are also suspects in your parents' deaths. And unfortunately, some of these names are suspects who are still fugitives and being sought by the police. And what's even more surprising is that I learned that one of them is the owner of one of the largest companies in Southeast Asia."
Hearing the explanation from one of her confidants certainly made Kay immediately turn her head. The man was named X-II. However, he always used the name David because he didn't want anyone else to know about the symbols or some secret calls used by the previous mafia members.
