Chapter 91
But I fell asleep before Kane could get back.
His voice was just so pleasant to listen to.
Listening to him talk to me on the phone, I closed my eyes without even realizing it.
Kane called my name several times, and when I didn't respond, he knew I had fallen asleep.
Kane closed his phone and looked up at Ryan sitting across from him. The warmth from moments ago vanished completely, replaced by an icy look in his eyes. "Have you found the traitor in the family?"
Ryan raised his hand and said somewhat helplessly, "Traitors usually hide deep. Finding them isn't easy."
Seeing Ryan's carefree expression, Kane slowly curved his lips into a smile. "In that case, I'll have to leave this matter to you."
Ryan's expression changed. He narrowed his eyes and looked directly at Kane, asking, "What do you mean by that?"
Kane leaned back against his chair, crossed his arms, and stared coldly at Ryan. "I think you know exactly what I mean."
Ryan finally realized something was wrong.
The moment his hand moved, countless gun barrels were pressed against his forehead.
Ryan slowly raised his hands, showing he wasn't a threat.
But his eyes were full of darkness as he looked at Kane and asked, "Kane, what's the meaning of this?"
Kane played with the revolver in his hand, his tone tinged with impatience.
"I don't want to hear the same question twice. You have one chance to tell me the truth."
Seeing Kane like this, Ryan knew he must have found out everything.
Ryan lowered his head and hesitated for a long time before finally speaking slowly, "Yes, you're right. I did intercept that shipment and sold it in Mexico."
Kane's eyes were ice-cold. Just one look from him was enough to make anyone tremble.
"I gave you so much power and let you have your own port, but not so you could do things like this."
Hearing Kane say this, Ryan's eyes turned vicious. "When you gave me those things, wasn't it because I got the job done for you? I earned all of this. Don't look at me like you're doing me some kind of favor!"
Seeing Ryan's angry expression, Kane smiled and clapped his hands.
James walked in from outside, holding a file.
Kane casually opened one page, pointed at the content, and asked Ryan, "Don't you know what else you've been doing behind my back?"
If it were just selling off that one arms shipment, Kane wouldn't be this angry.
In mafia families, there aren't many rules. As long as you have the skills and ability, no one cares how you got your power and money. Everyone will respect you.
But there was one thing Kane couldn't tolerate.
"Why did you make a deal with the Torrisi family?"
The Torrisi family was the mafia's biggest enemy.
If someone from the Moretti Family hadn't betrayed them back then and joined forces with the Torrisi family, Kane's father wouldn't have died such a horrible death.
So Kane couldn't tolerate this.
Discovering that Kane knew his deepest secret, Ryan's eyes finally showed a hint of panic.
But he still wouldn't admit it. "How could I do such a thing? Don't you think there might be some misunderstanding?"
Kane didn't hesitate to shake his head. "I don't think there's any misunderstanding. There are photos and records. What excuse do you have?"
Kane radiated an overwhelming presence that made Ryan, who still wanted to argue, quietly shut his mouth.
His expression showed some fear, but he was still trying to stay calm. "I only had very ordinary dealings with them. In fact, you yourself have done business with the Torrisi family, haven't you?"
Hearing Ryan still trying to make excuses, Kane's patience ran out completely.
He walked up to Ryan and looked down at him.
Being stared at like this by Kane, Ryan, who had been planning to deny everything, suddenly had a bad feeling.
He stared at Kane, his voice trembling slightly. "Kane, what are you going to do? No matter what, I'm an old member of the mafia. You can't treat me like this!"
Kane cocked the gun in his hand, pointed it at Ryan's head, and smiled.
"No matter how long you've followed me, betrayal is betrayal."
Hearing this, Ryan closed his eyes as if resigned to his fate, but the gunshot never came.
Ryan carefully opened his eyes and looked at Kane with surprise and confusion. "What does this mean?"
Kane smiled and continued playing with the gun.
Ryan was pretty sure he wasn't going to walk out of here today.
He suddenly looked at Kane viciously. "If I don't make it back from here today, an email will be sent from me to your wife's inbox."
Hearing this, Kane's expression finally changed.
He raised his eyes and looked deeply at Ryan.
James and Bandel exchanged glances.
In their eyes, by threatening Kane with this, Ryan was already a dead man.
Kane seemed to laugh at the absurdity of it all, letting out a cold chuckle as he stared at Ryan. "You think after doing something like this, I won't go after your family?"
Ryan said dismissively, "Whether I do this or not, you're going to go after my family anyway. Might as well make you sick while I'm at it."
Seeing Ryan's terrible attitude, Kane's expression darkened again. He demanded, "What are you planning to send Sonya?"
Kane asked coldly.
Ryan became more confident, certain that for Sonya's sake, Kane would give up his plan to kill him today.
As long as he could leave here alive today, he would immediately flee to Mexico, making sure Kane would never have another chance to kill him.
Ryan looked at Kane and said, "Of course, it's about your illegitimate child."
Kane's pupils shook violently.
He had kept this secret so well.
How did Ryan know?
Ryan seemed to read Kane's thoughts, too.
He smiled at Kane and said, "From the moment I started dealing with the Torrisi family, I knew something would go wrong eventually, so of course I had to leave myself a backup plan."
Kane looked at Ryan's smug expression, wanting nothing more than to shoot him in the head right now.
But just as Ryan said, if he couldn't leave here, then Sonya would receive that email and find out about the child.
Kane's eyes became extremely cold. He suddenly stepped forward and kicked Ryan in the chest.
Ryan coughed up blood.
He was about to look up and say something harsh, but the gun barrel was already in his mouth.
Ryan was afraid Kane would actually lose it and kill him, so he quickly showed a pleading expression.
But Kane showed no concern, just stared coldly at Ryan.
He spoke word by word, his tone full of warning. "If Sonya finds out about this, I will never let you go."
With that, Kane put away his gun.
He turned and strode out of the room. Bandel and James exchanged glances and quickly followed.
James walked behind Kane and sighed. "Even if Sonya found out about this, I think she would understand you. After all, that child..."
Kane suddenly cut off James. "Enough. That child is already pitiful enough. Even if he's not my child, what does it matter?"
Seeing Kane's firm attitude, James had to change the subject.
"It's getting late. Aren't you going back to be with your wife?"
