Chapter 88

Chapter 88

Kane saw two sets of knives and forks in the lunch box. He turned his head to look at me and asked, "Baby, you haven't eaten either?"

I nodded, feeling a bit shy as I said, "I wanted to eat with you."

It seemed I rarely had meals alone with Kane - if I counted carefully, almost never.

Because when we were at the manor, we would eat with Nina.

When we were out, Kane's partners or family members were always around.

And come to think of it, I hadn't had many meals with Kane at all.

I really treasured this hard-won opportunity.

Kane's eyes became very soft.

He carefully wiped the utensils with a sanitizing wipe before handing them to me.

We enjoyed the meal I had carefully prepared together.

We even chatted for a while as we ate.

Nina's shy expression from our morning conversation suddenly popped into my mind.

I asked tentatively, "That person close to you, Bandel, is he single?"

Kane stopped eating. He narrowed his eyes slightly, looking at me with some confusion and even a bit of suspicion.

"Why are you suddenly asking about him?"

Seeing a hint of jealousy in Kane's eyes, I quickly waved my hands to explain, "Because I think maybe he and Nina could have something going."

Hearing this, Kane laughed. The jealousy on his face disappeared, and he said to me seriously, "Bandel has been single ever since he came to work for me."

Hearing this, I felt relieved and patted my chest. "If he's willing, Nina really is a good girl."

During the most difficult time in my life, all my other friends stayed away from me.

Even if they liked me as a person, they didn't want the unnecessary trouble that Luca would bring them.

Except for Nina, I had almost no other friends.

So my desire to help Nina was genuine.

Hearing me say this, Kane thought for a moment. "If Nina is willing to, I can arrange for the two of them to come with us."

I froze for a moment, taking a while to understand what Kane meant. I asked hesitantly, "Come with us, where?"

Kane tapped my nose. "Did you forget we haven't had our honeymoon yet?"

My mouth fell open. That grand wedding seemed like it was just yesterday, but I had indeed forgotten that Kane and I hadn't had a honeymoon.

I had just assumed we weren't going to have one.

After all, Kane seemed so busy.

Seeing my dazed expression, Kane laughed.

He pinched my nose again. "You didn't think I was that unromantic, did you? After finally marrying you, I'm definitely going to arrange a honeymoon trip."

I keenly caught the key phrase in Kane's words and looked at him in surprise. "Finally marrying me?"

Kane paused. He smiled and winked at me. "Guess what I mean by that?"

My heart started pounding. Could it be that Kane had noticed me a long time ago?

I asked curiously, "When did you first know me?"

I thought Kane would keep me guessing, but unexpectedly, after hearing my question, he began to think seriously.

After a long while, he slowly said, "Well, I saw you when you were just born."

Hearing Kane say this, I pursed my lips. I thought he would tell the truth, but he was still teasing me.

I huffed and stopped paying attention to him, turning my head away and silently eating my food.

Kane laughed and put his arm around my waist. He rested his head on my shoulder.

Kane said softly, "I'm telling the truth. Why don't you believe me?"

I nodded dismissively. "Yes, that's right, you're the boss, whatever you say is right."

Kane laughed helplessly.

He turned my shoulder and looked at me, saying very seriously, "Think about our age difference - wouldn't it be normal for me to have seen you when you were just born?"

Kane had a point there.

One reason I was scared to marry Kane back then was because of our large age gap.

I worried whether someone so much older, who might be rigid and gloomy, would really treat me well.

Kane's words dispelled my dissatisfaction. I turned around and poked his chest. "Don't make jokes like that with me again."

I saw a flash of complex emotion in Kane's eyes, then he nodded.

I don't know if it was because of the wheat flour and pasta I had prepared, but after lunch, I felt drowsy.

I couldn't help but yawn. Tears formed in my eyes from the reflex, and I rubbed them.

Seeing me like this, Kane stroked my head. "Are you sleepy? I have a restroom here, you can take a nap inside."

I looked at Kane and asked, "What about you?"

Kane spread his hands helplessly. "I'm a man, I need to earn money to support the family. I still have several meetings coming up."

I thought for a moment, nodded, and took Kane's hand, saying, "Then I'll go sleep in the restroom and wait for you to get off work. Even if I wake up early, I can just play on my phone and won't disturb you."

Hearing that, I would wait for him to finish work, Kane smiled. "I don't know exactly when I'll be done, but having you here with me, I think work will become much more enjoyable."

Kane's words made me smile, too. He took my hand and walked toward the restroom.

It was one of the few rooms on this floor.

Compared to my own room, this room was so small that it was almost the size of a bathroom.

But precisely because the room was small, it somehow gave me a sense of security.

Kane turned around and closed the window blinds.

He turned to look at me and said, "Taking an afternoon nap in this kind of small, dark environment is very comfortable. Do you need me to leave a small light on for you?"

A trace of concern flashed in Kane's eyes.

I knew he was worried I might have some psychological trauma about dark, confined spaces.

I smiled and shook my head. "It's fine, I also really like completely dark environments. That way I can sleep better."

Hearing me say this, Kane breathed a sigh of relief.

He took out a silk pajama set from the nearby closet. From the style, it was men's - probably something he had prepared for himself here.

"You can wear my pajamas for now. I'll have my assistant prepare a set of your personal items here later."

I held Kane's pajamas, smelling the reassuring and familiar scent, and nodded obediently.

After I changed clothes, Kane sat in the room for a while. His phone suddenly rang.

He looked down at it, stood up, and said to me, "Alright, I need to start working. Baby, I hope you have sweet dreams."

I looked at him, the blanket covering the lower half of my face, leaving only my eyes visible.

I blinked at him as my response.

Kane smiled and walked toward the door while answering the phone. "Oh, you mean that shipment at Mariana Port? I'll go inspect it personally in a couple of days."

As Kane closed the door, his voice was cut off outside.

The room fell into silence and darkness, with only a sliver of light streaming through the gap in the curtains, which made me feel just right.

I closed my eyes and fell into a deep sleep in less than five minutes.

In my dream, I dreamed that Kane, Nina, Bandel, and I spent a perfect honeymoon together in a seaside town.

I slept longer than I expected.

When I opened my eyes, it was already five o'clock in the afternoon.

If Kane didn't need to work overtime, the two of us could go home together.
