Chapter 61
"Are you Sonya? You're so pretty!"
Kane's sister bounced up to me. Her eyes were just as beautiful as Kane's, though she looked more like Rocky.
Seeing me looking a bit awkward, the girl suddenly slapped her forehead and said to me with an embarrassed smile, "Look at me, I've been rude. I haven't even introduced myself yet. I'm Annie. These two are my brothers Anthony and George."
The two boys smiled at me and greeted me, "Hi, Sonya. We prepared a gift for you. We hope you'll like it."
With that, they handed me a box.
I opened it excitedly and found a pure wool scarf inside.
And it was clearly handmade. Anthony and the others must have put quite a bit of effort into making it.
I gave them a grateful smile. "Thank you for the gift. I really love it."
Kane walked up to me, put his arm around my shoulder, and said to them, "Sonya made some cookies and cake herself. You might want to try them."
As soon as Kane finished speaking, the three of them burst into cheers and rushed into the cabin like happy little birds.
Kane and I looked at each other and smiled.
This wonderful atmosphere was completely different from the mafia world Kane was part of.
By the time we got back to the cabin, it was almost lunchtime.
Tina brought out the dishes from the kitchen one by one.
I saw turkey, steak, risotto, some cheese desserts, and even some stir-fried dishes.
Tina looked at me with a smile and said, "Recently I met a friend from the East who taught me how to make these dishes. I thought you might like them."
I nodded and said, "I used to work at a Chinese restaurant. The food there was really good."
Hearing this, Tina let out a sigh of relief.
Rocky said to me with a smile, "Last night, Tina was already thinking about what to cook, worried you wouldn't like it."
I quickly said, "I'm not picky about food at all."
After all, for the old me, just being able to eat was already a blessing.
Most of the time, Luca would only throw me a piece of sour bread and a few olives.
That was my food for the whole day.
Tina brought out another pot of rich tomato beef stew.
She said to me proudly, "This is my specialty. Try it."
I immediately ladled out a bowl of soup and put a spoonful in my mouth.
The fresh tomato flavor and the rich beef fat spread an amazing savory taste in my mouth.
My eyes lit up immediately, and I praised Tina, "Your cooking is absolutely delicious."
Seeing how much I enjoyed her cooking, Tina smiled even more happily.
"If you like it, eat more. You look a bit thin. Is Kane not treating you well?"
As she spoke, Tina even glared at Kane, as if she was going to stand up for me, which made me laugh.
"Mr. Moretti has been very good to me. Without him, my life would be very difficult right now."
I was surprised to find that in front of Tina and the others, I could talk about my past without any hesitation.
After hearing this, Tina looked at me with great sympathy.
She walked up to me and opened her arms to give me a hug. "Poor child, your life before must not have been happy. But it's okay. Here you can think of me as your mother. I'll do everything I can to be good to you."
Annie also came over and hugged me, her voice a bit playful. "And Sonya, I really like you."
The warmth and care of this family was something I had always longed for.
Looking at them and feeling Tina and Annie's embrace, my eyes gradually became moist.
I was very satisfied with this meal. By the time I left the table, I felt like the food was about to overflow from my throat.
Tina thought I was too thin and kept picking food for me, and I felt bad not eating it.
Finally, when I really couldn't eat anymore, I gave Kane a pleading look.
Kane smiled and took my plate away, eating everything I had left without any disgust.
I saw Tina and Rocky exchange a glance, both showing relieved smiles.
After the meal, Tina asked if I wanted to walk around the farm.
I happily agreed.
Annie cheered even more excitedly, "Great! Now I'll have someone to play with!"
For Annie, Tina was the only other female on the farm.
My arrival was like gaining a new friend.
I smiled and walked arm in arm with Annie toward the chicken coop.
They raised many chickens, and the chickens weren't afraid of people. When they saw Annie and me coming, they immediately gathered around clucking, as if asking for food.
I followed Annie and Tina to do some work around the farm.
Originally Tina absolutely refused to let me do these things.
But I rolled up my sleeves and patted my chest, saying, "Don't worry, I've helped people with this kind of work before. I definitely won't cause any trouble."
Tina said with a mixture of laughter and tears, "I feel bad for you. You're a guest. How can you do these things?"
I looked at Tina seriously and said, "But I'm Kane's wife. We're family. Isn't it right for me to do these things?"
This statement made Tina laugh again.
Finally she let me go with Annie to feed the chickens and ducks.
After a whole afternoon, I was still full of energy.
Tina suddenly hugged me. She gently stroked my head, and her body carried a reassuring scent.
"Poor child, you must have suffered a lot before, right? Didn't you live in the city? How can you be so capable?"
I hesitated for a moment, then said to Tina, "My stepfather is different from Mr. Rocky. He wasn't very good to me and my mother. I had to go out and work to earn money to make sure my mother and I wouldn't get beaten."
When Tina heard this, tears immediately fell.
Her eyes showed love and sympathy as she kept stroking my head.
"You've suffered before. From now on, if you're with Kane and he treats you badly, come find me. No matter what, I'll love you like a daughter."
I couldn't hold back and hugged Tina back.
Annie saw this and came over too, insisting on joining our group hug.
She was a child who loved to join in the fun, but also very kind.
We didn't return to the cabin until dinnertime.
To my surprise, Rocky and Kane were actually cooking inside.
I was shocked.
Kane could actually cook?
Tina came over, looked at me, blinked, and said with a smile, "When Kane was little, I trained him to cook. After all, a man who can't cook isn't a good husband."
I looked at Tina with some emotion.
It was precisely because of having such a good mother that Kane hadn't become a cold-blooded killing machine under the influence of the mafia.
