Chapter 46
Bertley's words seemed to make Kane a bit angry.
There was a hint of fury in his eyes as he stared at Bertley.
"You're actually saying I don't respect women? You should know that we Morettis are famous for being gentlemen."
But Bertley ignored Kane and turned to look at me instead, his tone very gentle.
"Do you feel his behavior just now was offensive to you?"
I blinked and thought for a moment before looking up somewhat timidly.
Before Kane could speak, I grabbed his hand.
"If it were just the two of us in private, I would really like it, but this is in an unfamiliar environment. Of course, they wouldn't laugh at you."
With Kane's status, no matter what he did in public, there would be plenty of people applauding him rather than laughing at him.
But I was different, even as Kane's lover.
If I did something, they would definitely gossip about me behind my back.
Hearing what I said, the anger in Kane's eyes gradually faded a bit.
He thought seriously, and finally reached out to me, gently pulling me into his arms.
"I didn't think that through before. I'm sorry, dear Sonya."
His warmth and the scent of his cologne completely enveloped me. I smiled and shook my head.
"It's okay. I'm really happy that you can listen to others' opinions and are willing to change."
Although I'd never been in a relationship, Nina had.
And she often talked about people around her being in relationships.
Many men never learn to listen to women's needs and thoughts. They're stubborn and think they're always right.
The fact that Kane could accept my thoughts and promise to change was already very good.
Bertley, beside us, coughed lightly, drawing mine and Kane's attention back to him.
"Perhaps we can start discussing what we need to do now."
Kane took my hand and walked toward Bertley's office.
Only then did it dawn on me - was Kane here to discuss business?
Then why did he bring me along?
I suppressed my confusion and obediently followed behind Kane.
The office was quite spacious. Besides Kane and Bertley, there was also a woman wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
Her hair was tied in a ponytail, making her look very neat and efficient.
And judging from her features, she looked more like a Spanish person.
When she saw Kane and the others come in, the woman stood up with a very refreshing smile.
"Hello, Mr. Moretti. I heard you want to buy our shopping mall, is that right?"
Kane pulled me to sit across from her and had Bandel make me a cup of milk tea.
Then he nodded at the woman.
"Yes, I want to use that mall's location to build an amusement park just for my wife."
I gasped in surprise, looking at Kane in shock.
"Build an amusement park for me?"
If I remembered correctly, most shopping malls are in downtown areas and other prosperous locations. Wouldn't using it to build an amusement park be a bit too extravagant?
But Kane turned to look at me, his eyes incredibly gentle.
"Have you forgotten the birthday wish you once made? You said you hoped to have an amusement park where you could play all day."
I did make that wish, and it was on my eighth birthday.
That was because I had hoped my mother could take me to an amusement park, but the tickets were just too expensive.
She couldn't afford it.
So I could only make that wish to comfort myself.
But what surprised me more was how Kane knew about this.
Facing my confused look, Kane didn't say anything, but turned back to continue looking at the lady.
"Currently, the price your company is offering me isn't quite satisfactory."
The woman also looked troubled. "Our mall's revenue is pretty good, and the location is in a prime area. Even if you use it for an amusement park, you'll be able to make your money back."
But Kane looked indifferent, crossing his hands, leaning back, and crossing his legs.
"This is an amusement park I'm giving to my wife, so I don't plan to open it to the public unless she wants to." As he spoke, Kane raised an eyebrow at me.
My breath caught.
I didn't know what to say now, because Kane had really fulfilled the birthday wish I made as a child.
Those doubts suddenly didn't seem so important anymore.
She just glanced at me, then showed a very professional smile.
"This must be your wife. She looks truly beautiful. Many people want to buy our mall. If someone is willing to offer a better price, I think our boss would be happy to get more cash."
Kane narrowed his eyes. Although he was still smiling, there wasn't a trace of amusement in his eyes.
I saw the woman across from us was clearly a bit intimidated.
"You've got some nerve. Are you threatening me?" After Kane said this, the woman immediately shook her head, but she didn't back down.
"Add one million to the price you mentioned." Kane's fingers tapping on the table paused.
But before he could speak, the woman looked at me with envy.
"Having a husband who loves you this much is truly enviable! He's even willing to spend lavishly for you and fulfill your childhood dreams. That's really rare." The woman's words seemed to please Kane.
The corner of his mouth curved up, and he raised his chin. Bertley looked at Kane in disbelief.
"Are you crazy? The team did an estimate before, and your current price is already a pure loss."
But Kane just raised an eyebrow unconcernedly. "Do you think I care about this money? As long as Sonya is happy, this money means nothing to me."
Bertley let out a heavy sigh, then shrugged at me.
He didn't try to get me to persuade Kane either.
In the end, he paid the money readily. When it came time to sign, Kane handed the contract to me.
I looked at the only blank field, which actually said "Owner's signature."
Disbelief welled up in my heart again.
I knew Kane was very rich, and I knew his wealth was beyond my imagination, but I really didn't expect him to be so generous with me.
And just because of a wish I made as a child.
My mind was a bit foggy, and in the end, I didn't even know how I signed my name.
Kane patted my head. "Consider this one of my wedding gifts to you."
This was only one of the gifts?
Dear Lord, there's no way not to be moved by a man like this.
After signing the contract, the woman left. Bertley went to see her off, leaving only Kane and me in the conference room.
I looked at him and asked the question in my heart.
"So how did you know about my birthday wish?" I was really too curious about this.
But Kane just blinked mysteriously. "If I said your Lord told me in my dreams, would you believe me?"
