Chapter 45

Chapter 45

I felt rather uncomfortable with the inexplicable hostility from this receptionist.

Kane seemed to sense the change in my mood and paused mid-step.

He turned back to look at me, raising an eyebrow and silently asking, "What's wrong?"

I looked at the receptionist who had been staring at me with unfriendly eyes, and just as I was about to shake my head, she rolled her eyes at me again.

I was certain I had never offended her, but I had no idea why she had such hostility toward me.

So I wasn't going to take it anymore. I raised my hand and pointed directly at the receptionist.

"I don't know why, but from the moment I showed up, she's been unfriendly to me, and she just rolled her eyes at me."

The receptionist clearly didn't expect me to call her out directly. Her expression became flustered, and she quickly raised her hand to explain.

"My eyes are just a bit dry. I didn't mean to offend this lady at all."

Kane frowned and stared at her darkly without saying a word.

Seeing this, the receptionist thought Kane believed her.

She looked at Kane with a delicate expression, her tone tinged with grievance.

"Mr. Moretti, you know me. I've been working at this front desk for a long time. You must have seen me every time you came here, right? My attitude has always been very good."

She moved closer to Kane and even deliberately bent down to show her cleavage.

I pressed my lips together and watched this scene quietly.

I wanted to see what Kane would do.

The next second, she fell to the ground. Kane raised his hand and waved it lightly, saying coldly to her, "From now on, you don't need to come to work anymore. Go to finance to get your paycheck."

The receptionist clearly hadn't processed what happened yet.

She gasped in disbelief, her mouth hanging open as she sat on the ground, even forgetting to get up.

It wasn't until her colleague came to help her that she realized Kane had just slapped her to the ground.

Her voice was full of resentment and grievance.

"Mr. Moretti, are you firing me just because your date said something bad about me?"

I saw that Kane was about to leave, but when he heard what the receptionist said, he stopped.

He turned around and slowly walked up to the receptionist.

The receptionist's eyes changed from initial fear to something more fascinated.

Clearly, she was attracted by Kane's appearance.

I saw her eyes gradually take on a hint of shyness.

I took a deep breath and watched expressionlessly as the distance between the receptionist and Kane slowly closed.

"Since you work at this front desk, you should know that the entire lobby has surveillance cameras. I'm going to have security pull up the footage right now, and if you really did roll your eyes at my fiancée, I'll gouge your eyeballs out."

The receptionist clearly didn't expect Kane to say that. She was so scared she trembled all over.

She finally came to her senses and immediately knelt down before Kane, practically begging, "Please, Mr. Moretti, I know I was wrong. I didn't mean to offend this lady."

But Kane completely ignored her plea and beckoned to me instead.

I walked to Kane's side, and he put his arm around my shoulder as we both stared quietly at the sobbing receptionist.

"You need to pay for your mistake. This is clearly the first time you've met me, yet you're full of hostility toward me. It's hard to imagine how you would target someone who really has no connections if they appeared in front of you." After saying this, I looked up at Kane.

"But gouging out eyes is too cruel. Since you've already decided to fire her, let's just leave it at firing."

Hearing my words, the receptionist breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at me with some gratitude in her eyes. "Thank you, beautiful lady. I apologize for my behavior just now."

I shook my head, not wanting to talk to her anymore, and turned to continue walking in the direction we had been heading.

Where I couldn't see, Kane gave Bandel a look.

Bandel understood immediately. He covered the receptionist's mouth and dragged her toward a corner in the back.

When I turned around to look at where the receptionist had been standing, I found she was no longer there.

I scratched my head in confusion and said unconsciously, "She left pretty quickly."

"She offended me, of course she'd leave quickly."

That sentence seemed to have a deeper meaning.

But I didn't think much of it.

Kane casually reached out and pressed the button for the top floor.

The elevator was very fast. In an instant, I felt weightless and stumbled toward Kane.

Kane quickly caught me in his arms.

Then I heard his voice, tinged with amusement, above my head.

"Looks like you really can't wait to throw yourself into my arms."

Kane's words made my cheeks flush.

Watching the elevator rise rapidly, about to reach the designated floor, I instinctively pushed against Kane's chest.

"We're almost there. Don't let people see us."

But Kane forcefully lifted my chin and lowered his head to meet my eyes.

"Why can't others see that you're my fiancée? Even if I kiss you here and they see it, they wouldn't dare say a word."

With that, Kane's kiss came down directly. I stared in disbelief with wide eyes.

How could this man just kiss me like that?

What if someone really saw us?

Sometimes the more you don't want something, the more it happens. I heard the elevator ding open.

Then a man in a suit appeared at the elevator door. He looked very handsome.

He seemed a bit older than Kane, with brownish-red hair, slightly curly but slicked back neatly with gel.

He stood at the door watching for quite a while before seeming to react, silently stepping aside.

It wasn't until the elevator door was about to close again that the gentleman couldn't help but speak.

"I don't think you came here to put on a passionate kissing show for me."

The man's voice was steady and pleasant, making my ears turn even redder.

Kane looked up impatiently and stared at him coldly.

"Bertley, I hope next time you can just pretend to be blind and walk far away without disturbing me."

The corner of Bertley's mouth curved up. I saw his thin lips curl up like a sickle.

I seemed to have heard this name somewhere before. My mind flashed back to some newspapers I had read.

I remembered.

This was Bertley Wayne, the owner of Wayne Group.

Facing such an excellent and successful entrepreneur, I felt even more embarrassed and gently pushed Kane's hand.

Bertley saw my flushed face and said to Kane coolly, "If you really want to treat your fiancée well, you should first learn how to respect women."
