Chapter 16
A luxury car pulled up at the entrance of the estate.
It was the same spot where the plane had landed that day when Kane brought me back from Dark Night Bar.
I looked at the obviously expensive luxury car, my expression somewhat blank.
This car was probably something I couldn't afford even if I worked hard for ten lifetimes. The gap between rich people and others was really huge.
"What are you thinking about?"
Kane suddenly pulled me into his arms, his tone carrying a hint of questioning.
I immediately looked up and shook my head gently, basically telling the truth.
"I was just thinking this car must be really expensive. How long would I need to work to afford it?"
After hearing my words, Kane seemed pleased and broke into a smile.
He reached out and patted my head, his tone relaxed.
"My cupcake, you're so cute. You probably couldn't afford this car even if you worked your whole life. But it's okay, if you like it, this car will be yours from now on."
I opened my mouth, envy in my eyes.
Soon the car drove to the harbor, and from a distance I could see a huge cruise ship at the port.
Several formally dressed attendants were standing at the entrance.
When they saw Kane's car, their expressions immediately changed, and they walked toward Kane, their voices full of respect.
"Honorable Mr. Moretti, it's truly our privilege to see you here."
Kane got out of the car first, then opened the door and let me out.
The moment everyone saw me, their expressions became somewhat amazed, even surprised.
What kind of face was that?
Pure and delicate like an angel, yet with the makeup adding a touch of allure, like a combination of a fallen angel and an angel, making people unable to help but be captivated.
I felt a bit embarrassed being looked at by those people and unconsciously shrank my neck.
Kane suddenly pulled me into his arms. I could feel that this time his grip was very strong, as if declaring ownership.
My shoulder was pressed tightly against his waist. I could sense he seemed to have some hostility toward the people around us.
Those people also clearly noticed Kane's displeasure.
They coughed lightly, looked away, and their expressions toward me changed from appreciation to respect.
"Mr. Moretti, please come with us. You're a VIP and can take a separate passage."
I was somewhat surprised.
This was the first time men had shown me respect rather than just appreciation for my face and body.
I had never thought before that I could receive this kind of treatment. I had only thought about how to avoid those men whose eyes examined me.
Now I seemed to understand something.
Only when you're strong enough yourself will others recognize your strength and not look down on you.
"By my side, no one dares to look at you with any contempt. So are you happy now?"
Kane suddenly leaned close to me, his breath falling on my earlobe.
I trembled all over and instinctively turned my head. My lips kissed the tip of his nose.
Kane looked at me and smiled. He tapped my nose, his tone full of undisguised amusement.
"Are you so eager to kiss me already? But this is a bit too bold here. If you don't mind, I think we can go back to the room and continue. What do you think?"
His words made my face turn red, and I didn't dare lift my head, afraid that someone might be watching us.
I was also afraid of seeing others looking at me with mocking expressions.
Kane seemed to see through my thoughts.
He helplessly spread his hands and pulled me even closer to him.
His lips pressed against my ear, and he gently bit my earlobe.
"I told you, as long as you're by my side, no one dares to look down on you. Why don't you look up and see them?"
After hearing Kane's words, I carefully lifted my head and looked to the side.
Sure enough, those people who had been sneaking glances at me immediately looked away when they met my gaze.
For a moment, I didn't know how to describe what I was feeling.
Perhaps it was just as Kane said - as long as I was by his side, no one would dare look down on me.
"This is what I can give you besides money - other people's respect. You won't get this from anyone else you're with. I'm right, aren't I, dear Sonya?"
Yes, I had to admit he was right.
No matter what kind of man I marry in the future, I would never get the kind of respect I received today.
I looked up at this man who always claimed to be my fiancé.
He was not only good-looking but also radiated a kind of confidence from within.
That confidence was innate to him, the confidence of being a mafia heir.
Suddenly, he lowered his eyes and met my gaze. "I really like it when you look at me with that adoring expression, as if I'm your master."
Kane's words were always inappropriate for the occasion, making people blush.
"Don't say these things in public." My tone was nervous as I looked away.
Kane made an "oh" sound as if suddenly understanding, and then his voice became even more amused.
"So you're shy now, aren't you, dear?"
Of course, I was shy.
I couldn't help but quicken my pace, following the attendant's lead to quickly board the cruise ship.
The attendant led Kane and me to the door of the most luxurious room.
He said very respectfully to Kane, "Mr. Moretti, this is your room, specially arranged. We hope you can rest well here before attending tonight's banquet."
After speaking, he very tactfully left.
I was looking at the room's layout, my eyes full of surprise.
After all, I hadn't expected that a room on a cruise ship could be this luxurious.
So luxurious it was somewhat shocking.
Suddenly, my waist was embraced by a pair of broad hands.
Kane held me tightly, his tone carrying some amusement.
His lips also landed on my exposed shoulder.
I immediately sensed what he was about to do and couldn't help but struggle lightly.
"At least don't do that kind of thing in public. The Lord won't forgive me."
Hearing me say this, Kane couldn't help but frown. He reached out and turned my shoulder around.
He looked at me intently, his tone also carrying some displeasure.
"What can your Lord give you? Can he give you money, respect, everything you ate this morning?"
Perhaps even Kane himself didn't know why he was somewhat jealous of the Lord his cupcake spoke of.
Obviously, to him, it was just something imaginary, yet he was still jealous.
He wanted Sonya to understand one thing.
That the only person she should believe in and rely on could only be himself.
