Chapter 15

Chapter 15

"What are you thinking about?"

Kane's voice suddenly rang out, pulling me back from my thoughts.

Only then did I realize the plate in front of me was completely full.

Besides lobster, there was finely shredded purple cabbage and sandwiches made with beef patties.

If I had to finish all this in one go, I probably wouldn't be able to eat anything for lunch today.

I lifted my eyes and looked at Kane with a somewhat pitiful expression, hesitating for quite a while before saying, "I can't finish all this."

After hearing what I said, Kane looked me up and down, and finally, his eyes showed a hint of helplessness.

He moved some of the food from my plate back to his.

I was a bit surprised. I didn't expect him to be willing to eat food from my plate. I thought he would just throw it away.

My expression must have been too obvious, because Kane glanced at me, took a bite of the fried rice on his plate, and said flatly, "Do I look like someone who wastes things?"

I smiled and gently shook my head, obediently eating what was left on my plate.

By the time I finished, I was so full I could barely walk.

At that moment, the middle-aged man from earlier walked up to Kane, his eyes respectfully lowered.

"Signor, Edmund has already sent a car over."

"Good, Raymond."

Kane nodded.

Looking at the middle-aged man, I finally learned his name—Raymond.

He must be the butler of this estate. Kane seemed to trust him a lot.

Kane's gaze fell on me again. He raised his eyebrows slightly, his eyes showing a hint of urgency.

"Alright, stop standing there like a fool, my cupcake. You need to change into proper clothes, fix your hair, and put on beautiful makeup."

After saying this, Kane snapped his fingers, and several maids immediately came forward.

They looked different from Anna.

Anna and the others wore gray and white uniforms, while these ones wore pink and white.

But they seemed much kinder than Anna, with gentle smiles and very polite toward me. One of them nodded at me.

"Hello, I'm Lulu. From now on, I'll be taking care of your daily needs."

Lulu looked like a friendly older sister, which made me like her right away.

"Okay, please take me there now."

I nodded cooperatively. After all, I really liked Lulu, and I would feel guilty if she got kicked out by Kane because of me.

Lulu's hands were very gentle.

Yesterday, when Anna did my hair, she hurt me, but Lulu didn't.

Her touch was like my mother's hands from my memories—so comfortable that my eyes started to well up.

Lulu saw my eyes in the mirror.

Her tone was surprised and even a bit concerned as she asked, "What's wrong? Did I accidentally hurt you? I'll be more gentle."

I quickly shook my head and lowered my eyes, my hair covering them, my heart full of indescribable emotion.

"You remind me of my mom. I miss her so much. I haven't seen her in so long."

Hearing my choked voice, Lulu hesitated for a moment, then raised her hands and hugged me.

That gentle, clean scent filled my mind, and I couldn't help but hug her back.

"Actually, Mr. Moretti isn't like what people say. He's a very good person. Once you get to know him better and spend more time with him, you'll see."

Lulu was Kane's person after all.

She thought I was missing my mother because of Kane, so she tried her best to comfort me.

I sniffled and didn't say anything more.

Finally, Lulu finished getting me ready.

Looking at the person in the mirror, I was shocked. Oh my god, is that really me? I could hardly believe it.

My hair, which had been dull and lifeless like dry grass, now looked as smooth as silk, shining and slightly curled, held in place on one side with an elegant jeweled clip.

Just like the little mermaid I'd seen in fairy tale books—absolutely beautiful.

And the clothes I was wearing were like something only a princess in a fairy tale could wear.

A pink and white puffy dress with some delicate jewels, the strapless design making my chest look a bit bare.

Lulu immediately brought over a red gemstone necklace and held it up to my chest.

I waved my hands in panic.

"This necklace looks way too expensive. Could you get me something cheaper?"

Lulu looked at me without any contempt in her eyes, but patiently explained.

"You're going to a very important yacht party with Mr. Moretti today. If you wear cheap jewelry, it will embarrass Mr. Moretti, and he might get angry."

Hearing Lulu say this, I finally lowered my hands.

I let her put that incredibly valuable-looking red necklace around my neck.

I have to say, jewelry really does make anyone look good.

Even someone like me, an ugly duckling, after all this preparation, actually looked presentable and had gained a touch of elegance.

I let out a breath and turned to look at Lulu, asking nervously, "Does it look good?"

Lulu immediately nodded, her tone full of sincere praise.

"You look absolutely beautiful, miss. You're the most beautiful person I've ever seen by the sir's side."

Hearing Lulu say this, the smile in my eyes faded.

So Kane had brought quite a few women here before.

But what was I feeling disappointed about?

I should have known that Kane never lacked women around him.

With that thought, I put on a smile and followed Lulu out.

Kane had also changed into a velvet suit.

That gun-shaped necklace still hung around his neck.

A dark red shirt made him look even more dangerously charming.

Whatever his personality and temper were like, Kane was definitely a very good-looking person.

In all my time at the church, I'd never seen anyone better looking than Kane.

His kind of handsome was different from that of ordinary people.

If I remembered correctly, he seemed to be mixed race, too.

With that thought, I suddenly felt a shadow appear in front of me. I looked up—it was Kane, standing right in front of me without me noticing.

He looked at me with a smile, "Looks like my judgment was right. You really are a beautiful cupcake."

I asked in surprise, "Did you pick out this dress for me?"

Kane nodded, "On the way back yesterday, I saw this dress and thought it would suit you perfectly."

I pressed my lips together, feeling even more touched.

It seemed that in the time I'd spent with Kane, in just these few short days, he'd already given me countless surprises.

"This suits you very well, very beautiful. It's yours now, wear it."

Kane's tone was very casual, as if he were just giving away a tissue.
