Chapter 101
Kane looked at me, the light in his eyes gradually dimming.
He helplessly tapped my nose, his tone carrying an indescribable affection. "When dealing with someone like Luca, the more you back down, the more he'll push his luck. Let me handle this, okay?"
Looking at the light in Kane's eyes, I unconsciously nodded gently.
Kane made a phone call, then stood up and grabbed his jacket nearby.
He looked at me and asked, "Do you want to witness Luca's self-destruction?"
I immediately nodded.
I constantly thought that if one day Luca died painfully, it would be great if I could witness it myself.
Now Kane was giving me this chance. I even followed him with some excitement, but I also felt hesitant.
Standing in the elevator, I looked up at Kane and said, "But I still don't know where my mother's ashes are."
Kane smiled and asked, "Do you really think I can't make him tell the truth? Do you think he can endure the torture Berlin went through?"
Thinking about how Kane had dealt with Berlin before, the corners of my mouth lifted slightly.
That's right—someone like Luca definitely couldn't hold out.
I followed Kane into the car, asking him restlessly, "Where are we going now?"
After Kane gave the driver an address, he turned to look at me and said, "Do you want to go see your aunt first?"
My heart tightened, and I immediately nodded.
I didn't expect Kane to be so thoughtful. His words made me feel warmth like never before.
He was helping me solve my problems now.
If it weren't for me having such a father, he wouldn't need to waste his rest time dealing with these awful things.
I gently leaned on Kane's shoulder and said softly, "No matter what, Kane, thank you for always helping me."
Kane stroked my hair and kissed my forehead.
"I'm your husband. It's my duty to do these things for you."
I noticed that Kane really liked kissing my forehead.
I asked tentatively, "Why do you always kiss my forehead?"
Kane lowered his eyes and stared at me deeply.
"For you religious people, isn't the forehead the most sacred place? But from now on, this place belongs only to me."
Kane's possessive declaration made my heart feel a bit tight.
It's hard to describe what kind of feeling this was, but mostly I felt touched.
Everything Kane gave me was something I never dared to imagine before.
I leaned against his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat, watching as the car gradually arrived in front of a slum.
The car door was respectfully opened by the driver, and I quickened my pace and rushed into the clinic.
Emily, who was wiping sweat from Camilla's forehead, turned around in surprise. The moment she saw it was me, she looked even more shocked and asked me, stuttering, "How did you get here?"
I didn't have time to answer her question. I rushed to Camilla's side first to check on her condition.
I saw that Camilla's arms and legs were wrapped in heavy casts, and I was almost trembling all over.
This must have been Luca's doing!
My mother's body had also been covered in casts before.
I never thought that even though Camilla had nothing to do with Luca, just because she was related to me by blood, she had to suffer like this.
Tears burst from my eyes. I looked at Camilla with guilt, my voice choking. "It's all my fault. If it weren't for me, none of this would have happened."
But Camilla's expression was as gentle as my mother's.
She reached out and touched my cheek. "Dear, this isn't your fault. Don't feel guilty because of an evil person's evil actions."
Camilla's words were warm and powerful, making me feel much more determined.
That's right—I shouldn't blame myself for Luca's mistakes. I should seek justice for Camilla instead.
I pressed my face into Camilla's palm, staring at her, and said very firmly, "I will avenge you. Luca will never bother you again."
Emily, beside us, seemed to want to say something but hesitated. Camilla noticed her thoughts and signaled with her eyes for her not to speak carelessly.
I turned to look at Emily. "You're my cousin. If you really want to help your mother or me, you should tell the truth."
My words made Emily make up her mind. Ignoring Camilla's eye signals, she said to me, "Actually, Luca has been bothering my mother for a long time. He always threatened my mother with your future and marriage, saying that if she didn't give him money, he would sell you to a violent man with mental disabilities."
Hearing Emily's words, Kane's whole body radiated a cold aura. His expression was as dark as his mood.
I knew Luca definitely wouldn't survive this time.
I tugged at Kane's sleeve and gently shook my head at him.
Then I looked at Emily and asked softly, "What did he do to you? Tell me, and I'll make sure he gets what he deserves."
My words seemed to give Emily courage. She told me everything about Luca's past actions.
He not only made Camilla transfer money to him, but sometimes he would even force Camilla.
Camilla's husband was also useless.
For the sake of her children, Camilla had actually separated from him long ago.
It's just that Camilla was worried I would worry about her, so she never brought it up on her own.
I looked at Camilla with heartache, my voice full of emotion.
"I'm sorry, I never knew about these things before. It's all because of me that you suffered like this."
But Camilla still looked gentle. "Didn't I just say? You don't need to blame yourself for bad people's mistakes."
I wiped away my tears and stood up, bowing deeply to Camilla.
"Please rest and recover here. I'll take care of Luca."
After saying that, I glanced at Kane, and we walked out of the clinic.
Before leaving, I stopped at the payment counter for a moment.
Looking toward the corner where Camilla was, I asked, "How much does her treatment cost in total?"
The cashier looked at me and handed me the bill.
I was shocked by the number on it—not that it was extremely high, but I didn't expect that treatment, even in a clinic like this, would cost so much money.
I curled my lips in a somewhat self-mocking way.
No matter what illness I had, Luca would never allow my mother and me to receive treatment. We always had to tough it out ourselves.
Or if it was really too serious, Luca would personally go buy some cheap medicine.
After I settled Camilla's treatment costs, I got in the car and looked at Kane. "Are we going to find Luca next?"
Kane nodded, his tone even carrying some amusement. "That's right, you're really smart."
His compliment made my face flush a bit. His tone was like he was coaxing a child.
The car slowly started, heading toward a place I was familiar with but never wanted to enter voluntarily.
The gambling den in the slums—Red Star Club.
