Mia felt extremely embarrassed.
"We... we..."
Matthew said, "You can't even say it, can you? So just stay at the villa!"
"But I'm so bored!" Mia muttered.
"Really?" Matthew's lips twitched slightly, his eyes cold, "There are lots of people at the nearby plaza. If you're bored, go there! You know what's the worst thing? Having too much free time with nothing to do!"
Matthew packed up his things and left by car.
Mia pouted.
"If you won't let me go, I'll go anyway!"
She immediately called Zander.
"Mr. Lawson, Matthew is attending a business event tonight. Did you know?"
Zander was sitting in the living room with his legs crossed, waiting for Elise to finish her makeup and come downstairs. He frowned at her words.
"He's going too? Don't tell me it's the same event I'm attending?"
Mia said, "Get the guest list from the organizer and see if he's on it. If so, find a way to bring me along!"
Zander couldn't help but sneer.
"I already have Elise with me. I really can't bring you!"
Mia's face immediately turned red, her voice becoming sharp.
"You have Ms. Sinclair, but Matthew doesn't have a date. You get what I mean?"
Zander suddenly understood. If Matthew went alone, wouldn't he keep trying to hit on Elise?
"Okay, I'll talk to the organizer!"
Mia raised her eyebrows smugly.
"That's more like it! Mr. Lawson, remember, you and I are on the same team!"
Just then, Elise appeared on the second floor. Her fitted evening gown looked so beautiful that Zander was stunned!
Such a beautiful woman, how could he possibly let Matthew have her!
He immediately hung up and walked to the stairs to greet her.
When Elise stepped down from the last step, Zander couldn't wait to pull her into his arms and kiss her deeply.
Elise was quite shy, her ears burning hot, her hands suspended in the air, not knowing where to put them.
After a long while, Zander finally released Elise and praised her, "You'll definitely be the brightest star tonight, the center of attention!"
Zander confirmed with the organizer that Matthew was attending tonight's event, and a flash of displeasure crossed his eyes. After confirming, Zander got an extra spot from the organizer so Mia could attend too.
Then Zander and Elise took a car to the event.
After Matthew arrived, several friends came over to offer condolences.
"Mr. Moore, please accept our condolences!"
"Nolan's death is a huge loss to Emerald City's business community!"
"Under Mr. Moore's leadership, the Moore Group will get better and better!"
Just then, everyone's eyes turned in one direction, and Matthew looked over too.
He saw Elise walking in slowly with her arm linked through Zander's, under everyone's gaze. How beautiful Elise was tonight! So beautiful it took Matthew's breath away!
Once upon a time, the man by her side was him, not Zander!
Matthew's heart ached so much.
People praised Elise's beauty.
"So elegant and graceful!"
"Simply an angel!"
Some people looked at Matthew, then at Elise, and whispered, "Don't you think this Ms. Sinclair looks kind of familiar?"
"She really does!"
"Like the former Mrs. Moore, right?"
"Don't talk nonsense! She just looks similar!"
Elise looked up and saw Matthew. Her body stiffened, and her expression froze on her face! She didn't know Matthew was also attending this event! She instinctively avoided Matthew's gaze.
Zander noticed something was wrong with Elise and asked knowingly, "Elise, what's wrong?"
"Nothing!" Elise said quietly.
Zander looked at Matthew provocatively, pretending to be pleasantly surprised.
"What a coincidence, Matthew's here too. Let's go say hello!"
Elise said awkwardly, "I'd rather not go over!"
"We have to!" Zander showed a malicious smile, "After all, you know each other! Besides, we'll be dealing with Matthew plenty in the future!"
So, regardless of whether Elise wanted to or not, Zander pulled her over to Matthew's side, his face full of smiles.
"Mr. Moore, what a pleasure! I really didn't expect you to attend this event too!"
Matthew had already seen through his intentions. His lips twitched slightly, and he ignored him, instead looking gently at Elise and saying softly, "Ms. Sinclair, I owe you a favor. Let me take you to dinner sometime!"
Elise nodded, "Actually, Mr. Matthew Moore doesn't need to worry about it. Mr. Nolan Moore deserves all our respect. It was my honor to play his granddaughter-in-law!"
Matthew insisted, "I must! I'll text you another day!"
Elise said gracefully, "Alright then!"
The two of them talked, completely ignoring Zander, which made him very angry. He wanted to provoke Matthew, but instead Matthew provoked him!
Suddenly, his lips curved up in a wicked smile.
"Mr. Moore, I think I just saw your wife!"
"My wife?" Matthew's pupils contracted as he wondered what the other meant.
Zander sneered, "Isn't Mia your wife? Didn't you come together?"
Just then, Mia appeared in the crowd. Zander quickly pointed at Mia, "Mr. Moore, look, isn't that your wife?"
Zander immediately waved at Mia, very enthusiastically.
"Mrs. Moore, over here! Mr. Moore is here!"
At these words, many people looked at Matthew.
Amelia had been missing for three years, this was no longer a secret in the business world. How did she suddenly appear?
Everyone looked in that direction and saw Mia wearing a sexy evening gown, walking over to Matthew with a sweet smile.
"When did Matthew get a new wife?"
"It's been three years. You can't expect Matthew to stay single forever!"
"Wonder what this woman's background is?"
"Matthew remarried and we didn't know?"
"Probably kept her hidden! Now that Nolan's gone, he dares to bring her out! Isn't it obvious?"
"Matthew!" Mia hooked her arm through Matthew's. Under everyone's gaze, Matthew couldn't shake her off, but he was already extremely disgusted.
"What are you doing here?" Matthew demanded coldly.
Zander answered before Mia could, "Elise and I are a couple. Mr. Moore would be so lonely alone, so I arranged for Mrs. Moore to come!"
Matthew half-joked, "Is Mr. Lawson afraid I'll steal Ms. Sinclair away?"
That one sentence hit Zander's pride. His expression immediately changed, and he pulled Elise closer to him, creating an appearance of intimacy.
"Elise and I are very much in love. No one can tear us apart!"
Matthew scoffed.
"You look like you're lying to yourself. Pretty insecure, aren't you!"
Zander's gaze at Matthew became sharp.
"Mr. Moore, what's yours is yours. Don't force what isn't. Cherish the person in front of you!"
Matthew stared at Elise for a few seconds, saying emotionally, "You're right, cherish the person in front of you! I've already lost her once. I won't let her go again!"
Wasn't this Matthew openly saying he would compete with him for Elise! Zander became furious and glared at Mia.
"Mrs. Moore, take care of your husband!"
With that, Zander pulled Elise away.
Elise cried out in pain, and Matthew immediately grabbed Zander's hand.
"If you hurt Amelia again, I won't let you off!"
