Chapter 120 Chapter 120
Chapter 120 Chapter 120
Logan
Word had gone round about my older half-brother.
If the pack members had been confused before about the attacks, they were even more confused now. I’d sent out warriors to Bloodmoon to gather as much information as they could find.
Who was Dorian’s mother?
How had she died?
And how long had she been involved with my father?
The large doors of the courtroom opened as someone stepped inside. I raised my head to Nessa's concerned gaze. She folded her arms across her chest, coming to stand behind on of the chairs tucked under the table. “Mara says you've been in here all day.” She said softly.
I darted a glance through the small space between the curtains. It had gotten darker than I'd realized. Sienna had been feeling restless so she'd opted to take a walk around the pack with Elias. I'd ordered Alaric, one of my warriors, to watch after them.
Then I'd buried myself in the courtroom going through pages and pages of all the events that had happened under my father's rule. I was trying to figure out if he'd ever gone to Bloodmoon without an obvious reason to.
So far all the dots were connecting.
If he had been having an affair, then he'd done a good job of hiding it. It had never been documented that he'd headed to Bloodmoon for no reason. I wiped my hand down my face, managing a small smile in Nessa's direction. She looked like she hadn't had a proper sleep in days.
“You should head home and get some sleep,” I encouraged.
It was already four days since the attack. Every member of the pack was on high alert but nothing had happened so far. Nessa looked like she wanted to argue, but it was quite obvious she needed some rest. Kael had set up a curfew and placed slight restrictions on how people moved around the pack.
Nessa had to move round the pack several times in a day to ensure she wasn't too late to attend to an emergency. Then she had to report back to the mansion to check in on everyone staying here. I got to my feet, deciding to get back to the files some other time.
I gestured to the door with my arm. “C’mon, I'll see you off.”
We walked downstairs and got to the living room just in time for Sienna and Elias to arrive back. My mate took one look at Nessa and drew her eyebrows together in concern. “You don't look like you should be standing,” She murmured. I returned Elias’s hug as Nessa let out a soft laugh.
“Hey dad,” He greeted. I ruffled his hair, asking him about his walk as I half-listened to Sienna and Nessa's conversation.
Nessa had her hands in the back pockets of her jeans. “Logan was just seeing me off.”
Sienna nodded her approval. She looked at me then and there was a similar concern in her eyes to the one she'd shown Nessa. I'd been in the courtroom all day and I probably looked weary, but it was nothing to be compared to Nessa. I gave Sienna a small smile to let her know I was fine.
She held back her tongue, her gaze falling to Elias.
Sienna's gaze fell to Elias. “The shower?” She reminded him, keeping her gaze fixed on him until he'd climbed up the stairs. Her expression was back to being concerned when her attention returned to Nessa. “I think you should take a day off, at least, so you can rest. I'll speak to Livia and we’ll see how we can cover you tomorrow.”
Nessa nodded. “Alright, thank you.”
Sienna got on tiptoes and gave me a light kiss on my cheek before making her way up the stairs. I shook my head as Nessa wiggled her eyebrows at me. Laughing, she stared up at the sky. “I'm happy it all worked out between the two of you. I'd always known Sienna was good for you.”
“I never should have sent her out of the pack.” I murmured regretfully. I had no one to blame for the years we'd spent apart aside from myself. They were years I could never get back, all because I'd been too afraid of what it might mean if I publicly accepted her as my mate.
Rather than trust that the moon goddess had chosen the right mate for me, I’d taken matters into my own hands instead.
“No, you shouldn't have.” Nessa agreed quietly.
I ended up walking Nessa all the way back to her home. “You heard her. You're completely stripped of your duties tomorrow. Sienna will decide, at the end of tomorrow, whether you're rested enough to continue.” She gave me a polite nod.
“Thank you.”
I waited until she had closed the doors behind her before leaving. Deciding to check up on things myself since I'd been indoors all day, I made a small stroll round the pack's perimeter. The warriors set to guard the night had begun their shift. After making everywhere was guarded to my satisfaction, I mean making my way to the mansion.
The group of Lycans scattered in front of the mansion were the first indication something was wrong. My steps became more urgent as I made my way through the crowd. None of them met my gaze. They simply stepped aside so I could walk through, their heads bent and their eyes fixed on the ground.
What was going on?
I caught sight of Sienna just as soon as she caught sight of me.
“Logan!” The way she yelled my name caused a chill to envelope me. She tore herself from Mara and Maurie, who I realized had been holding her back. I held my breath as she ran towards me, collapsing into my chest as I tried to steady her. She was shaking violently, tears running down her cheeks.
The chill in my body turned to pure terror.
I could think of only one reason she could be so shaken.
She pulled away from me, the words tumbling out of her mouth.
“Logan, Elias! We can't find Elias!”
My world shattered around me.
