Chapter 133: Changes!
While he ran after the herb for the potion against the aconite poison, Dashell tried to use his healing spells to close Lyall's wounds, including the head wound that wouldn't stop bleeding. Despair was almost overtaking him when he returned with the herb and the other ingredients for the potion, realizing that Fee wasn't managing to resolve the situation even with her powers and her pot of knowledge and, as she approached him, she noticed that the wizard was also getting weaker and weaker, deducing it from Dashell's reaction when he attacked.
"What's happening to you?"
"I'm not sure. But don't worry about me, worry about the Lycan king, he's bleeding badly." The sorcerer points to the werewolf lying on the bed, conscious.
Observing the situation and examining Lyall closely, Maeve widens her eyes, trying to speed up the potion process while warning Dashell:
"He needs to be taken to hospital as soon as possible, since you're weak and I haven't reached your level yet. Let's let the doctors sort it out.
"The problem is... I don't even know if this place has a hospital."
"Dashell, it's time to act. Go to reception and ask about the hospital, I'll stay and finish the potion and at least try to stop all this blood."
Soon the wizard was at reception asking about the hospital. The receptionist said yes, Dashell explained what was happening and the man on the other side of the counter called an ambulance.
"Thank you, young man!"
"You're welcome! So that my king can recover soon, I will help him in any way I can." The receptionist strikes a pose, puffing out his chest with pride."
"And by the way. You'll need more sheets in his room." Dashell returned to the room to tell Maeve that an ambulance had been called, noting that she was giving Lyall the potion orally to make sure he took it. As soon as the potion reacted, the siren of the approaching ambulance was heard.
At the hospital, a doctor was already waiting in the emergency room, examining him, looking at Lyall's head wound and saying
"It must have been a bad fall."
"The Fairy Garden waterfall is 280 meters high, doctor. So, what do you think?" Maeve replies a little sarcastically
"I think he's pretty tough, but I don't know if he can take it. He'll need surgery. From what I can see, he's suffered severe head trauma and, even if the surgery goes well, he could be left with some after-effects."
"What kind of after-effects?" asks Dashell
"You could fall into a coma, for example. But let's go in parts, first I'll prepare the operating room and tell the neurosurgeon who happens to be from Sirion."
"Doctor, no one must know that Lyall is alive." Dashell stares at the doctor.
"Alive? He's more like dying."
"Save the Lycan king's life, doctor." Maeve intrudes on the conversation
"I can try to save his life. But with regard to him being the Lycan king, you should inform yourselves better, because we have a new king, the bastard son of the imposing, powerful, never-questioned-before character, King Wyatt. Impressive how quickly things got out of hand."
"Jamal is nothing but spiteful, selfish and jealous."
"Be careful, sir, what you say. Keep your opinion to yourself, as far as I know he followed Lycan law, called Lyall to a duel and won."
"What a simpleton you are, Doctor. But that doesn't matter now, just save my friend, he must survive for the sake of Selene, Uriah and Wahid."
"The nurse is already calling the neurosurgeon, in the meantime I'll do the other procedures." The doctor leaves, pushing the stretcher Lyall was on to an emergency bed.
Back at the castle, Selene was knocking tirelessly on the door, screaming for her children, her heart aching at the thought that Nix could do any harm to Uriah and Wahid.
"Jamal, give me back my children. Please!" Selene cried
Rose went to her grandson to question him, interrupting the meeting she was having with the Alphas from the allied packs:
"How long are you going to torture Selene like this? It's not enough to have killed the man she loved, now her children?
"Grandma, from now on, don't scold me like that in front of the others, or you'll be punished. Do you understand?" Jamal stares at his grandmother with contempt.
"What kind of monster have you become, Jamal?"
"The kind that doesn't want to put up with boring old ladies telling me what I should or shouldn't do. Jasper, please get my grandmother out of here." A tall, strong man with short brown hair full of tattoos gets up from his chair and walks towards Rose, who stares at him and says:
"Don't you dare touch me, you brute, I know the way out."
"Sorry for the interruption. As I was saying, a time of change has arrived and to start with I'd like to introduce you to my new head of security... Jasper."
"What about Ethan? He's always been loyal to the kingdom and this Jasper we've never heard of. Who is this guy? A werewolf, a witch?"
"Ethan was always loyal to the former King Lyca who is dead. In fact, if you look at his family history, they're a bunch of traitors. Remember Theros? He shamelessly betrayed my father and who's to say he won't do the same? After all, Lyall and Ethan are best friends."
"That's absurd!" a lot of people mutter in criticism, until Ethan slams the table hard, drawing attention to himself:
"Jamal's right. I'm Lyall's best friend and for me he'll always be my king, I could never serve him like I did Lyall. I thank you for your leave and I want to tell you that I'm leaving the castle today." Ethan gets up and heads for the door
"Ethan, I haven't finished the meeting. Go back to your seat or suffer the consequences."
"Are you going to duel me and try to kill me? Or are you going to kill me right here in front of everyone to show how powerful you are?"
Jamal smiles loudly at Ethan:
"I could really do that. But I won't, I feel you've already understood who's in charge here. You can go." Ethan hurries out of the meeting room, followed by Leila, who catches up with him and takes his arm:
"If you're leaving the castle, Madelyn and I are going with you."
"No! I need you to stay and help Miss Selene, that would be Lyall's wish. And besides, I need eyes and ears here."
"But Ethan, this castle won't be the same without you. Lyall's death is enough." Leila laments
"Listen! I don't think Lyall is dead, we haven't found his body anywhere, and we've spent two days looking for him. I need to get out of here so I can be free to look for him, but I need you to stay and help Selene with whatever she needs." Ethan smiles slightly at Leila, who hugs him tightly
"Promise you'll take care of yourself?"
"Of course!"
Back in the meeting room, Jamal is still asked about the origin of his new head of security:
"And who is that? Which pack does he belong to?" Caleb stares at him
"And who is that? Which pack does he belong to?" Caleb stares at him
"I'm Alpha of the Wild Wolves pack"
"I've heard of you. You were allies of the Uktena Pack and Silver Claws." Ngellus said, hearing Jasper's confirmation.
"Just as he and the Wild Wolves Pack allied themselves with me, other packs such as the Fire Wolf, the survivors of the Lupine Dawn Pack, and Nix, you yourselves have seen the power she wields. So, I want to say that from today onwards they will help me keep order around here."
"In other words, from today we'll be monitored and watched."
"That's what you're saying. I'm just warning you that you'll have to adapt to the new change. Since I'm the new Lycan King." Jamal smiles at everyone who remains silent, but when they hear Jasper's clap they are forced to follow.
